On Friday I drove down to UGA’s campus in Griffin, GA. FauxFarmer Paulie was there for “2026 UGA Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) Grower’s Day & New Facilities Inauguration!” (exciting, right?) where I learned a lot about growing indoors, watched two facilities get inaugurated using comically large scissors to cut ribbons, and ate a free lunch. Unfortunately the two Atlanta-area growers with whom I spoke and wanted to exchange contact information left before the day’s end. I did talk to some mushroom growers from Carlton, GA (I didn’t know where that was either) and may take a trip out to their farm one day.

The M6’s TPMS alarm fired on the drive down, and on the drive back, so Saturday I checked the tires for low pressure and foreign objects. There were no flat tires when I checked Saturday morning, so that was good. I managed to drive to Marietta and back without incident, so I am declaring Friday’s alarms as false ones.

The threat of rain and unknown tire situation spoiled my plans to hang out in Griffin to visit Piedmont Brewing, and run some errands on the drive home. In hindsight this saved me some money, which will be spent today on more car repairs.

The rain postponed Trees Atlanta’s tree sale to next Saturday, forced the cancellation of Oakhurst Porchfest, and postponed Ormewood Park’s Maker Festival. I’m sure the turnout for the Highland Games, assuming that occurred since the Scots should be used to shitty weather, was much lower than hoped as well. Wee Little Farm’s rain gauge caught nearly 3″ of rain. What a pain it was, though crazily for (my patch of) ITP it was virtually all over by 10am. And, Wee Little Farm loved it, so it had that going for it…

The problem with debugging problems that only happen in the rain is that you most likely have to stand out in the rain to debug them.

Wordle: five, my starter was CAUSE. I am the maddest I have ever been after playing Wordle.

Wordle in 5. My streak, small as ut is, disappeared over the weekend for no reason. NYT got an email and wel6 see.

The park tried to wave us off on Saturday and we told our volunteers to be careful but we were trying to work. While we had a late start, we had a very productive day and are on schedule for this weekend.

Camping has been quite convenient and I’ve had no issues.

  2. Car is back at Anthem for repairs suggested last week that couldn’t be performed then. I equipped Old Faithful with a rear light to increase my pre-sunrise visibility. I also put reflective stickers on my helmet to do the same.

The ride back home was really nice today, even with an abundance of foot traffic on the Beltline. I used to think dogs and dog walkers were the most dangerous thing on the Beltline, but have changed my opinion. I think the most dangerous things are the joggers/walkers who perform a U-turn without even considering that other people are using the Beltline. I nearly hit a young woman who U-turned into my path just before the Krog tunnel this morning.

Yes, those fucking “oh, let’s just turn on a dime” people are the absolute worst. I’ve almost hit some of them as well.

  3. News from Marietta about Barcycle is not good. I won’t have time to make a trip up there this week to find out Allan’s professional assessment, but early indications are that this bike was not assembled with great talent and may not be able to be put right. I paid nothing for it, so there is that…

Yeah, unsurprisingly the hurricane was a non-event. We bravely braved the light rain to venture up to the Lindbergh area where Kevin’s optometrist is and ordered his new glasses, then went to General Muir for lunch. We had gotten up early (for us) so we were home by early afternoon and watched football the rest of the day and all day Sunday.

The Giants-Commanders game ended in a tie. WTF?!

    • I hate ties.

This weekend officially closed the books on my attention to college football. UF lost again, UGA beat Bama on a controversial game ending play, and Texas lost thus gifting the #1 ranking to UGA. I’m done!

Do you wear overalls and a hat while farming? You need to go all in now and complete the look 🙂

Went for a ride on Friday and took a flyer over the bars and smashed my knee. It immediately swelled up and was super painful. I’m leaving for Bentonville AR for a mountain biking weekend on Thursday so I was quite concerned. Ice and rest on Saturday really helped, swelling is down and pain is manageable. It may be a little uncomfortable but damn it I’m going to ride!
Aside from resting on Saturday I prepped my chainsaw equipment as I was on call for Big Creek. The Quick Six enduro race was on Sunday so we prepared for any trees that came down on Saturday. Fortunately only 2 small trees came down and were handled so the race was run on Sunday with clear trails.

    • I’ve never looked good in overalls, too stumpy to pulle them off as a look. 🙂

Those old Knoll boys really like hurting themselves!

And you all wonder why Old Faithful will never be ridden as a true mountain bike again… Hope you continue to heal quickly.

      • Barb says:

get some overalls – just do it!!!!

Bob – hope you feel better for the roadtrip & riding – I know about the fun of crashing

      • Bob says:

This is true, at least I didn’t require a hospital visit. My brother seems to always go all in and gets trips to the ER.
I’ll be wearing more protective gear in AR since there are opportunities to go real big 🙂
I may grow old but I’ll never grow up!

BTW – purple on Connections today – WTF

  8. Waiting to hear about the M6, so I just returned from a walk to UFO. Picked some stuff from my plot, half of which I will compost because it’s too big to be edible. I also continued my self-directed cleanup of the blueberry patch.

  9. I’m not going to venture a guess as to how a large pumpkin end is up on the curb down my street, but one did. And I claimed it. And now, it’s part of WLF compost system.

  10. Still waiting to hear about my car. Harrumph! Since I dropped it off at 7am I was hoping that it would be ready before 3pm since I have to ride my bike back in order to pick it up.
