I think it might be time for me to get back into the app writing business, well, hobby. Over the past two weeks I have accidentally purchased two books that I already own. I’d like to have an app which I can use to scan a UPC, or ISBN, and inventory my book collection. The same concept could be used for CDs and DVDs/Blu-Rays. I know such apps already exist, but in proper to use them I’d have to sign up for a subscription, or pay a good amount of money for them.

I’m doing battle with the Ethernet bridges to the shop. At the moment, they are winning, but hopefully that won’t last. They come preset with IP addresses and those won’t match my existing network. I thought I got them changed and when I rehung them, they were still not passing data. They were at least talking to each other, which is a step up from the last pair that died.
Games meeting was a snooze as everyone is ready to go. We still don’t have police for our overnight security. As you may have heard, the Memorial Association is slowly dismantling the police department. There are still a few officers left, but it’s less than ideal.
I need to ride, but I want to get the network up first.

I use an app called Library Thing where I can catalogue all my books and it is incredibly easy and also free. There is also an app called Libib that will catalogue CDs, books, and other media, and not only is it free but it’s also ad-free.
Not much to report. Of course my Red Sox got shellacked by the Yankees in the first game of the Wild Card series last night. Kevin is going to the Braves Wild Card game today.
I was gifted a bag of home grown potatoes by a co-worker which I am going to make for dinner tonight, and I’m trying to decide if I want to roast them or mash them.

I’m a big fan of boiled potatoes. If you want crispy, you can either pan fry, or roast after boiling. I just put a potato in a pot, hoping to sneak in a crop by Christmas.
I do love boiled and then roasted potatoes. I just wonder if that will take too long for a weeknight.

Went to the Braves game yesterday afternoon and it was an absolute blast! I’d never been to a playoff game before. Absolutely perfect day for baseball — as is today, it seems! Hope Kevin has a great time.

I had another curious bird fly into the ITP Estate today. I went to get some water and it flew past me, scaring the shit out of me!
I guess it might be time to buy a screen door for the kitchen?
I took down the screen that is in my den sliding door and hope that the bird exited since it was in the den. I’ve closed all of the doors to other rooms, and don’t believe that I’ve trapped it inside any of those rooms…

Currently waiting with Debbie at a friend’s farm for access to an air compressor. The can of fix a flat didn’t heal the leaky tire.
AI (slop) may bring the end, or maybe my end, to YouTube. It’s become commonplace for AI videos to be uploaded and recommended, with no identifying markers to tell you that the video is AI generated. I just spent a good ten minutes following leads to come to the conclusion that a channel recommended to me is nothing but AI slop.
I was having a really productive day outside until I took the break which led me to encounter the bird. That whole episode completely derailed me today. I will have to get back at it all tomorrow.
Yeah, I would have to do a haz mat cleaning, then sage the house, and then consider nuking the house from orbit if that happened to me.
My network is restored! After the bench test worked, I remounted everything and still got nothing. When I tried to ping the near end antenna, I got nothing. Shit. I started thinking about it and even ordered a cable tester and crimp set, thinking the wiring to the antenna went bad. Then I replaced the PoE injector, as that cable has to have power for the antenna- and we’re back on the air! Probably didn’t need new antennas, but at least I now have a spare PoE widget. Yea, me!
It’s almost as if you used to do that for a living! Well done.

Speaking of POE.
My F-i-L’s (new) apartment has a house telephone in the LR area, connected via an Ethernet cable to an outlet on the wall. Jan’s sister wanted to install an “Internet Splitter” to make the Ethernet outlet serve 2 devices, the telephone and a PC.
Internet Splitter?!
The Internet Splitter was actually a little 2-port switch sourced via The Amazon. However, when both telephone and PC were connected, the phone did not work.
HamWithCam to the rescue. Turns out the telephone is “digital” and is powered via POE. Rather than goof the facility’s POE switch (in some closet somewhere), I moved the telephone to the bedroom and connected the PC to the now-unused LR Ethernet outlet.
Good to go.
