My buddy Hank has flown home, which is good for my productivity and my desire to lose weight. On Monday I tweaked my left knee (again) which is terrible for my productivity and my desire to lose weight. The pain, as well as the fact that it still exists two days later, is frighteningly reminiscent of when I tore a meniscus and required surgery in 2020. Not only do I not want to repeat that my health insurance is far worse when that occurred…

I’m in possession of my new old bicycle, heretofore named “Retrostein”, thanks to Allan. I was able to get the pedals off my original Trek 2300 (the “Red Rocket”) even after fourteen years of sitting in my basement. I will put the pedals on today, and once my knee(s) stop hurting will take Retrostein out for a ride.

Betsy is indisposed tonight, so I have a rare Wednesday free. What to do? Oh that’s right, nothing, since I am injured.

I’ve checked Amazon to see if any of my “must haves” are on sale today, they are not. This is good for my wallet.

Wordle: five, my starter was SCAPE. Four consecutive days of fives. Ugh

  1. Although hurting, at least this morning in Atlanta is wonderfully cool. I’m sitting on the couch, eating breakfast, with the doors open to let the cool air in.

    Wordle in 4.

Not a lot to report. There was some mowing yesterday and a stop at the cracker backer.

I failed to report that Monday, we tried a new place for dinner- “Waldo’s Chicken and Beer”. Not really our style of restaurant (counter ordering) but with a bar they will come and take your order. What we didn’t know is Monday is kids eat free day. Oh. Joy. We won’t make that mistake again. The food was excellent.

And Monday was also a sad day as 3 folks we know passed away- Debbie’s HS friends dad, who we just saw at his 60 birthday party, an old Scottish dance friend, and a “younger” member of the Games committee. He was already taking over responsibilities from his dad and dropped dead from a heart attack. He might have been 50. Very sad.

We had the babysitter watch Finn and we went to Wahoo for Date Night. Today two of Kevin’s brothers who live in LA and have been visiting the east coast are coming for one night before flying back to CA tomorrow. I am going to make a casserole.

I love a quick visit with people, just enough time to sort of catch up, but not so long you get on each other’s nerves!

      what kind of casserole?

Katrina & Clara made it – Katrina is staying here, Clara with the grandparents.
We had dinner on the deck – we were at Aldi buying supplies for the week, and Steelhead trout was on sale – so we had a lovely meal with grits & asparagus.

What to do today? I’m working, Katrina has some work she needs to get done, and Allan is at the firehouse. I”
I will figure out a lunch outing I suppose – as the grandparents are not good at making any plans. Katrina went for a run early – got “lost” in the neighborhoods around here (they aren’t a grid at all) & a guy walking a 3 legged dog directed her home.

  5. Knee be damned, with the cooler temperatures I just finished three hours of front yard work — mowing, edging, wood chipping, leaf blowing. Looks pretty damn good if I do say so myself.

    • In hindsight it is hilarious, but when it was happening I nearly shit my pants. I was mowing the lawn, with EarPods in, and as I was turning a corner I saw something charging toward me. I literally yelled. Turned out to be Betsy’s dog , who Betsy let off the leash to greet me.

So yesterday, I got an email from my (our) eye doctor saying they needed to cancel my upcoming appointment (in August) and to please reschedule. I have called at least 10 times over the last 2 days and each call disconnects. Get the announcement, get the menu, select the scheduling, hear more advertising and click! I’m thinking this may be a final straw for these guys.

  7. Because it didn’t hurt while working this morning I was hoping my knee was getting better, but it was false hope. As I started walking around this afternoon it started hurting again. Dammit!
