I have been so busy, and so mentally exhausted that it wasn’t until yesterday that I realized just how lucky I was to have my frame break during BRAG, where I could get picked up and driven to the end. I think of the many times I’ve done solo long rides, and though I’ve attempted to limit disasters, don’t exactly know what I would do if my bike became unrideable. AAA? Uber? Lyft? Walk? I hope I don’t have to find out in the future.

At Nam Dae Mun I bought seven ears of corn for $2 the other day. So, with the Korean cabbage I also bought there and some WLF zucchini I made a fry up, and served it over some Asian noodles and an Asian sauce I mixed up. It was delicious, and only wish that all of the vegetables came from WLF.

Speaking of WLF, I think I am going to pull the few corn plants which are growing because there are not nearly enough to pollinate the silk in order to turn into ears of corn.

I’ve read that CHaRM will be vacating their Hill Street location at year’s end. I don’t know if they own or lease the land, but either way I’m sure a new housing development will be put there since it’s directly on the Beltline. Pity. This means I will probably stop making the effort to recycle electronics and glass. This planet is fucked, and my efforts are making little impact.

Wordle: four, my starter was OILER

  1. Glad I really needed gas when I filled up on Wednesday because today the price has decreased by 20¢/gal at the same Kroger.

    Wordle in 2!

Another quiet night. My watch said “Plenty of deep” which is pretty rare for my sleep. As I have a ticket to the brewfest this afternoon, I’m about to go ride and find somewhere interesting to have breakfast.

The closing band last night was a good cover band. That seems to go over better with this crowd than somebody trying to make it to the show with their own songs, Or just bad musicianship like the first night.

We got on the road at 7:00 am to pick up Finn from sleep away camp in BFE Georgia. At least there’s no traffic.

  4. Taking a water break after a humid morning or laboring. I’ve been to Kroger, returned home, mowed the “lawn”, and washed a half dozen planting trays. My soaked shirt is hanging outside to dry. I still have many more chores to complete before meeting a buddy for beers this afternoon, so my break won’t be too lengthy.

  5. I get frustrated by Nature’s senseless destruction. Okay I get frustrated by Man’s senseless destruction as well. Yesterday I went onto my second story deck to do some cleanup and discovered that one of the two tiny paw paw trees that I have in pots has been nipped and killed, I will guess by a squirrel. On the ground I used to think it was rabbit, but no rabbits are getting up on my deck… It would be one thing if they critter ate the tree, then I could at least believe that it was so hungry that the tree was its last resort. But no, the snapped tree was lying in the pot, just like all of the other times I’ve discovered that critters have killed the trees that I am trying to grow in pots. 🙁

  6. Choring Round 2 is complete, and I e earned another sweaty shirt. Giving myself another water break as I read up about fermenting cucumbers.

Small crisis 1 averted. My phone wasnt charging and as it’s my navigation, I stopped at the Ace hardware and a nice guy let me test with his new cable. Now working. The newly failed loe beam headlight might be a bigger challenge!

Paulie, I’m so glad for you that you had that moment of gratitude around BRAG. Your frame breaking there, instead of on a long solo ride, is an example of what I call a terrible thing happening in the best way possible. I’ve had any number of those things happen over the course of my life. Also, extreme kudos to you for accepting help in the form of a loaner bike. You could have easily stormed off back home, at least I know that a younger version of me sure would have. That’s really good stuff that you didn’t.

Wordle in 3, with 4 greens on my second try. I coulda been a contenda.

    • David says:

Also, I am in complete agreement on CHARM. I’d already made the same “fuck this” agreement with myself on plastics recycling.

    • Thanks. Younger Paulie would have quit. I am surprised it took me so long to realize how fortunate I was.

      • David says:

From my own personal work and growth, I don’t think the important part is how long it took you to notice.

What matters is that you noticed.

That gratitude around BRAG is something you can’t unsee now. My hope is that it becomes a seed—one that helps you start noticing gratitude in other places in your life as well.

Cheers, Paulie. Whenever we meet up again, the first beer is on me. This seemingly little realization is definitely worth celebrating.

Replacement headlight secured. Now to find some shade to work. 90 or better in the sun, but there is a breeze.

  10. Steve says:

F’ing German Engineering! It’s easier to take out the entire headlight/instrument cluster that to just reach in and swap the bulb. Why I didn’t have an all in one Torx tool in my kit, I don’t know, but TS to the rescue.

  11. Jenka says:

We retrieved Finn successfully, took a nap, then went day drinking/to lunch at Six Feet. Got home and took the dog for a walk in Freedom Park. Now watching Canaidia vs Bosnia & Herzegovina on the couch.
