Good lunch with ITP-Reader Steve at Po Boy Shoppe yesterday. I really like the food there, and it was good to catch up IRL.
I like to think that I am as strong as I have ever been, but opening jars has started to become more difficult. The other night I found it impossible to open a jar of Mid’s pasta sauce, and in the end resorted to stabbing a hole in the top of the lid in order to release pressure using a wine opener in order to get to its contents.
Speaking of strength, I had a hard time keeping pace last night, at least for the first half of the ride. My body righted itself for the second half, thankfully.
Wordle: ???, my starter was TRIBE. I’m on my sixth guess so I will score either a six or a fail.
And it was a Wordle FAIL
wordle fail for me as well.
that word wasn’t going to come to me – with the route I was taking.
work was work, ended up at dinner with some friends at The Wing.
Nothing exciting at all
oh wait – I did do something interesting (or at least expensive)
Bought our plan tickets to Croatia.
I couldn’t find any emails except the original one where we paid the deposit on the trip.
I called Franklin, he actually answered the phone – & confirmed the trip is from 9/4-9/11. We will go straight to the airport from the boat to go home.
We will fly out Sunday 8/30 & return Friday 9/11.
I need to look into trip insurance, as I’ve been told to not buy the insurance from Delta.
And next – figure out what we are going to do the days before we join the BRAG trip.
I usually use Travelex, and it is not too expensive. At least, not when you consider what the cost of an overseas MedEvac would be.
thanks – I’ll look at that company (there are so many choices)
Bill Burr was pretty funny- he has definitely not lost his edge. Or maybe he found it again. Wowza. It was annoying though that they made us put our phones and smartwatches in pouches. I don’t care about my phone, but I need my watch to know what time it is. My Fitbit isn’t even really a smartwatch, all it does is tell time and count my steps. It’s kind of an OCD thing. Anyway, whether they were slowed down by that or they just don’t have their shit together, the show started at least 45 minutes late. We left before it ended to beat the crowd.
My Suunto watch isn’t really a smartwatch – to me, but I bet they might think it is. (I don’t have any of the notifcations/etc. set up)
Someday I might go to the dark side, but haven’t yet.
I wonder if (now that you know) you could put it in your pocket or something to hide it? I HATE not having a watch on – it drives me nuts.
Oh yeah, next time I will definitely hide it. I showed it to them out of the goodness of my heart and said it does nothing but tell time, and they responded, “sorry, if it glows it goes.”
Was this specified at ticket purchase? I might have balked. I get why they do it, but they can always kick me out if I take out my phone.
Kevin bought the tickets so I don’t know if that was specified then, but they did send me an email the day before the show about it. So I knew going in, but I don’t think it was enough time to sell the tickets on Stubhub or something.
Ah, well at least it wasn’t a complete surprise.
I had a posse of three guy friends ride with me to Macon last night to see the Marshall Tucker Band and George Thorogood. We rode in Jason’s new-to-him electric car, we had 27 miles of range left when we got back to my apartment. Apparently EVs are best suited to stop-and-go traffic, where the constant braking builds up the battery, while the open road sucks it dry.
Marshall Tucker started slow but got better as they played. Their flautist stole show. I learned by way of Wikipedia that there never was a Marshall Tucker in the band. The real namesake is a black, blind piano tuner in Spartanburg, SC. He dropped a keychain with his name on it. Ultimately, the real Marshall Tucker was cool with them co-opting his name as long as they “played good music and were good boys”.
Apart from moving a lot slower than when I saw him in the 80s at the Fox, George Thorogood did not disappoint. I was the only one of my group that had seen him before, and my friends were blown away.
We walked to a nearby Waffle House after the show, and then headed back. The funny thing about Macon to me is that the drive there always feels way shorter than the drive back. Usually it’s the other way around for me when I go places.
I had a Wordle Fail too, which was made all the worse by having the 1st, 2nd, and 5th letters in green on my third try. That set me up for a long slow descent.
good info about Marshall Tucker – I always figured it was a guy in the band.
Glad the EV made it back – that would suck to die on the side of the road.
Funny about the different sensations depending on which way you are headed.
This is what tomorrow’s blog will be about, but in a slightly different way.
Wordle incomplete. Sitting on 6. Not looking good.
I agree, great to see Paulie IRL. Ate the other half of the dish for dinner.
Dentist do e. Scooter store stop and wallet significantly lighter. Waiting for my spinal tap! Good times.

Wordly in 6 but I had help. A lot of it!
Focaccia not looking nearly as tall, pre baking, as the last one. However, since I plan to is it as a sandwich bread that may not be a terrible outcome. And if it is, I will be buying some Ritz crackers at Kroger later.
Focaccia is out of the oven, now cooling. Next up was going to be baking a beer bread, but I think I’m more interested in getting the oven’s heat out of the kitchen.
Spent the morning in Wee Little Farm. While out there I had two visitors with their dogs. 🙂
For shits and giggles I transplanted sixteen bush beans, two tomato plants, and two moschata squash plants. I hope that they take.
You all failed at Wordle so I had to give it a go. Got it in 6, with no help! Whew.
^Sorry, this sounds so superior, I didn’t mean it that way! Someday they will figure out how to convey tone through text…
That is why I use so many smiley faces 🙂
Smarty Pants! 🙂
I got Wordle in 4! I had the last 4 letters in 3 with a lucky guess and could not for the life of me think of the word.
We currently have a quiet house, Izzy is having an evaluation day at puppy day care. I would like to send her there maybe once a week to wear her out, she has way too much energy.
Porch project still under way, trying to get it done after work but I had to do ANOTHER home depot run so it delayed me yesterday. Decking is done, all that is left is posts and railings. Should be able to get that done tonight or tomorrow.
Travis is at graduation practice, next Tuesday he will be officially graduated! I’m excited for the next phase.
Graduation practice? WTF? Sorry, how hard is it to wait until you’re told to line up and walk across the stage? Kids today…
HEY, GET OFF MY LAWN!!! 🙂
BOB WINS!
Cabotage – a new to me word today.
Has to do with crossing international borders – LOTS of problems at the Otay Mesa (aka San Diego/Tijuana) border crossing
Lumbar puncture done. Not as easy as other years but still worth the pain. Rewarded myself with some Varsity for lunch. I’ve been jonesing since a friend posted a pic a few weeks ago. Oil changed!
