On Friday I ate dinner and had beers with an old coworker who is in town from Miami for a few days. We ate at Fox Bros, one of my favorites and somewhere I’ve not eaten at in some time. While the food was still excellent, I am not sure the value for money is there. I ate combo meal of four chicken wings (two drumettes, two flats), one decent slice of brisket, fries, and Brunswick stew, for $26. The meal was filling but it will be some time before I again pony up that sort of money for a meal like that.
On my walk back from UFO Saturday morning I stopped at a garage sale and met someone whose taste in movies and books is very similar to mine. At the sale I scored “High Fidelity” on Blu-Ray, and one of my white whales — “Stop Making Sense” — on DVD. It was $5 well spent. I told the guy that I would have purchased a lot more from him, had I not already owned them.
This weekend I made my first attempt at saving lettuce seeds. I previously learned that one has to wait for the plant to go past the flower state to a puffball state, because the seeds are attached to the puffs. It’s more labor intensive than other seeds I’ve harvested, and I will be interested to see what my seeds produce later this year. I also had to contend with tiny spiders (spider mites?) who were living within the plants, something no one mentioned. I’m sure there’s a way to automate this process, but I now have more respect for lettuce seed farmers.
Wordle: four, my starter was REPLY
In from Wee Little Farm where I exhausted a lot of my stored water, watering all of the plants in grow bags and pots, even those that refuse to grow, head of today’s heat.
In a little while I will be off to cosplay farmer at a farm field day in Oxford. It’s an outdoor event, so I expect to sweat buckets.
Wordle in 3.
This was a bit of lost weekend. Debbie has seen issues with Phinney and we’ve decided his quality of life is declining. He appears to be in pain when walking and we haven’t seen any faster movement. Yesterday, Good neighbor Michelle and her new husband Gregg brought their backhoe and dug the spot and the vet comes this morning. Phinney was Debbie’s A horse for many years, so this is a hard day.

Bummer about Phinney.
that’s very sad about Phinney.
Sorry to hear about Phinney

busy weekend with Katrina & Clara –
Saturday we hiked up & around Kennesaw Mtn – 6 miles – I was beat, they hike faster than me.
Went to check out Allan’s firehouse, they are finally getting moved back in after it’s been “remodeled” – it still has problems, but it’s almost really done. Then to Mellow Mushroom for dinner.
Sunday we went up to the Ocoee white water rafting, had a great guide, good times.
Skyline chili for dinner. Its about 2 hours up there, so it was a fairly long day.
Good times in Brevard this weekend. Was able to ride all 3 days followed by much beer and food. I was definitely ready for some quite time after hanging with Dean and Patrick so that drive home was pleasant 🙂
It’s kind of strange having no plans for the 4th of July. We usually go to Florida but decided to not go this time. I’ll have to find some shenanigans to get in to.
how was the hash?
Hash was fun, we had 6 riders and a few bimbos. Trail was good and since I helped Dean throw flour I wanted to go back and ride it again without the extra weight. I was able to ride it Sunday morning before heading home.
Jenka, you probably won’t read this. If you were getting your CSA through Emory, I think I met your farmer today. The workshop I am attending is being held at the organic farm of Emory at Oxford.
