In July I was the leader, and only volunteer, for that month’s UFO workday. On Saturday I was one of three volunteers. Given the number of plots which seem to be ignored, and the few people coming out to volunteer, if I am not given the opportunity to take on more land next year I am going to leave UFO.
A funny thing happened on the Gators march toward greatness, as I feared, they had their asses handed to them by Missouri on Saturday. And thus ends what little interest I had in college football this season.
Wordle: three, my starter was LOTUS
On the ATL tarmac, flying into EWR today and out tomorrow via LGA. I’m teaching an Excel class in Manhattan tomorrow. Apparently none of the local talent is available.
Wordle in 5.
I am both surprised that there isn’t an instructor closer (perhaps this speaks to your skill level) and that there isn’t a convenient direct flight from Hartsfield to LaGuardia. Don’t yet know the airport code EWR, so once I learn this more will be understood…
Safe travels, hope you can get a decent meal or two.
Newark? I’m gobsmacked that it’s cheaper to fly from Newark to LaGuardia than to take a cab to Manhattan. The tolls much be fucking ridiculous these days.
I think he is flying into Newark – going to Manhattan however (train or car) to work & then flying home out of LaGuardia.
that’s how I read it.
You called it, Barb. This gig popped up last week and airfares were nutty. In through Newark and out through LGA was the path of least resistance.
Debbie is on the trip with me and we have reservations at Au Cheval tonight. Their other location is in Chicago and they’re both very high on my favorites list.
This teaching gig is one of those “nice work when I can get it” kinds of things.
Newark is a giant United hub, so fares are competitive, and it’s relatively easy to get into the city on a train. Or the Newark branch of the Atlanta Fed! I still don’t get that one.
Well, that makes more sense.
busy enough weekend doing whatever for the most part.
Saturday went & rode at Allatoona Creek – didn’t crash – so that was a plus (after Clemson, I still have a few bruises)
Dinner out on the deck – it wasn’t too hot finally.
Allan was able to get Sunday 10/25 off – so we will have Wheelhopper that day (almost everyone that’s anyone is gone the 18th)
Wordle in 5 and there is another word with the vowels transposed I had in 4!
With Debbie gone to Cotton Pickin’ Fair/Cotton Fair/Gay Fair on Saturday, I decided to play Trad Man, as I wanted biscuits. AI provided a simple enough recipe and except for having baking powder that seemed expired, they came out OK and I’d do that again.
Glad I didn’t mention last week how I thought Florida was playing well. Sorry. The GA/AL game on Games weekend should be a doozy. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep my eyes open. I’ll start packing today and make a grocery run, as I drive up Thursday.
3/4 inch of rain and could use a lot more.

The rain, and annoyingly lack thereof changed my plans twice over the weekend.
Initially on Saturday I was going to attend the Old Dominion v. GA State football game, but didn’t because “it was supposed to rain”.
Yesterday I was going to do the Lewis Grizzard & Catfish Memorial Ride in Moreland, but never registered because “it was supposed to rain” all day.
We almost bumped in to you at Allatoona Barb, we were looking at a camper in Acworth and was going to ride/run at Allatoona. Laura found something on FB marketplace that we needed to pick up in Woodstock so we rode/ran at Rope Mill instead. Still made it over to check out a camper, we are looking at a small toy hauler and this may fit the bill. Not ready to buy yet but if the price drops enough we may pull the trigger.
Friday rode a route new to me on the moto, up to Dawsonville, over to Calhoun via Talking Rock, then hit Canton on the way home. Good times but I need to leave earlier on these trips as I didn’t get home until around 7.
Sunday Travis and I went to a Chicago bar to watch the Bears beat up on the Jets (Sorry Paulie :-)). The bar was full of fans and was super fun.
How’s the college kid doing?
Are you looking at new or used campers?
Travis is doing well, he is struggling with a few things but is using the available resources to right the ship. I had a feeling he would struggle a bit and I’m proud of him for finding the help he needs.
Looking at used, new campers are just stupid expensive. I found a 17 foot toy hauler that I really like. It’s on the small side but with only 2 people now we don’t need much.
That actually seems like a perfect size. And doesn’t need a huge truck to pull it.
I expected both of my football teams to lose, but the Gators loss hurt because they were completely outplayed by Mizzou.
Bob – why a Bears bar? (& which bar was it?)
Travis is way in to the Bears ever since we went to Chicago. We went to Bobby G’s in Alpharetta. If you want Chicago style food it is a great place. They even have a Chicago Handshake on the menu!
i might be afraid to look up a Chicago handshake
C’mon Barb, you lived in Chicago!!!
Chicago Handshake = Old Style Beer + shot of Malört
I was a little afraid as well. And I don’t know what that shot is.
You’ve not lived until you’ve had Malört because once it’s in your mouth you will want to die. 😀
MALORT was NOT around when I lived there in 88-89. It might have been, but I never heard of it until stupid hashers decided it was something to drink.
yuck – I tried in in New Orleans last fall.
Jeppson’s Malört is famously and overwhelmingly bitter, with an intense, herbaceous flavor profile driven entirely by wormwood.
Flavor Profile
• Primary Taste: Extreme, tongue-constricting bitterness similar to concentrated grapefruit pith, burnt rubber, and heavy herbal roots.
• Aroma: Faint notes of citrus, grass, and alcohol on the nose.
• The Finish: A long-lasting, metallic, and sharp bitterness that lingers in the back of the throat and resists being washed away by food or water.
Cultural Reputation
• The Experience: Drinking a shot of Malört is a famous Chicago rite of passage and a traditional bar handshake.
• The Reactions: Pop-culture descriptions of its harsh taste range widely from “liquified existential dread” to “pencil shavings and heartbreak”.
Malört has been sold in Chicago since 1933, it was definitely there when you were. I will grant you that it has become more widely known in recent times, so you just never have heard of it.
ok Paulie – no one I knew was stupid enough (hahahahahaha – yes, they were) to drink it back in the 80s
With that I cannot argue. 🙂
TradMan is in the process of making English Muffins, but things aren’t going well. My dough isn’t rising, and I fear I may have made the milk+water too hot for the yeast? I can’t even make another batch because I have no milk, and when I went to Kroger this morning they had no (half gallons of) milk so I didn’t purchase any.
And I just threw the dough into the garbage. It hadn’t risen at all in over an hour, so there was no hope for it. Baking vexes me greatly.
I’m afraid to really start baking as we would both weigh 300 pounds. And speaking of baking, we started the next season of TGBBS last night. Pru is gone and Nigella Lawson (?) replaced her.
Wow. I’ve not seen a season of that since I got rid of Netflix three/four years ago.
I’ve hinted at watching it at Betsy’s but she’s never been interested.
Oooooh! Good to know that the next season is out.
Whew, very busy morning! First big school-wide meeting of the year.
On Friday we ditched work late afternoon and took Meatloaf to the Moe’s & Joe’s patio. Dean was at the bike shop so he ran over and said hi to us. Saturday we went for mani-pedis and then the Albert for lunch. Then home to watch the Braves lose to the Dodgers in the first game of the NLDS. Yesterday I watched the Patriots and made bangers ‘n’ mash for dinner. I didn’t plan to make bangers ‘n’ mash, but those were the things I had on hand. 🙂
