I made it through the GA Wild Foods Weekend and was intrigued to find out that this occurs in other states. My Wild Boar Mexican Lasagna was well received, well, no one complained to me at least. Everyone I met was friendly, and I even managed to win one of the raffle prizes. I ate a lot of foods for the first time, both plants and animals, including rabbit. The lowlights were the sleeping arrangements, basically a hostel room with bunk beds, in which one of my fellow roommates snored longer and louder than anyone I have ever encountered, and the showers which had only a smattering of hot water.
I’m sure the NC Wild Foods Weekend, which occurs in April, will conflict with BRAG STU. If it does not, I will attempt to register for it.
My new rain theory worked again — I went away, WLF received about an inch of rain on Saturday night.

Allan’s e-bike was doing something weird (when shifting up to turbo) while riding Sunday, so he will take it over to the shop this afternoon. There were some good climbs, so turbo was needed here & there
It was making a clanking / grinding noise with each full pedal. Even though I didn’t have to be at Trees at eight, I’m here solo today, I didn’t have to to debug.

I rode the road bike Saturday in Roswell down by the river – & we mtn biked up at Talking Rock to scout trail for the October Wheelhopper. I don’t think we’ve even had a Wheelhopper at those trails.
Went to Milton to meet an out of town friend for dinner Saturday night – it’s a ways up there north of Roswell – I don’t think I’ve really ever been to Milton.
The in-laws made it to Colorado, said there was tons of road construction – I know they stopped to “nap” in Kansas somewhere, not sure where else they stopped, if they did, they don’t give much information.
Talking rock is fun, added bonus is Biguns BBQ and Talking Rock Brewing right down the road for an on-after.
Black Sheep will be hashing in the general vicinity – but not close enough to make it work as an actual joint ending.
I may coordinate with the hare for us to go to their ending, I hear it’s a very nice place (depends on if we want to get everyone to drive over there)
Awww I love Talking Rock! Friends and I did a long girls’ weekend in a cabin up there last year and also had fun exploring the wineries and brewery there in town. There’s a painted rock snake along the river too because of course I would find the painted rocks. 🙂

20 on the CX bike Saturday as the gravel bike had a flat when I went to ride. Since remedied- just needed more Stan’s No Tubes, or whatever that stuff is. Saturday evening, a concert with Kathy Mattea in Hogansville. The restored Royal Theater was built in 1937 and originally seated 900! It’s still quite the place and we’ll be looking at other opportunities to visit.
Sunday was projects and a friend is selling their side by side, so a little test drive. Needs tires as well as a windshield and they still want $6k. Actually not an unreasonable price, but I think we’ll pass.

Debbie has wanted one for forever. If this one was ready to go, I’d have pulled the trigger. It used to be at their property in Montana, so it’s seen some use, as well.
You definitely got rain, my family is in town for the Shaky Knees festival and they were evacuated from the park due to lightening and heavy storms. They said it was quite nasty. When they left they went in to the first bar they saw and it ended up being Blake’s. Must have been crazy with all the regulars having the soaked festival goers walk in.
Friday night we went to drag bingo at Schoolhouse, good times and the host was super funny. We did a ride/swim at Charleston park Saturday, Izzy was pretty crazy for the water, fun times.
Sad news from the hasher world, Al Casey (Screwed by a midget) passed away Saturday night. Don’t have many details but sounds like heart issues. He showed up to the ramble on Thursday and Jim said he was weak and dizzy and left early. Really sucks, he was the nicest dude.
My condolences on your loss.

Sleeping in a bunk room with a bunch of other people is like my worst nightmare. I’d rather sleep in my car.
Saturday and Sunday consisted of watching football and baseball. We did go to the Albert for lunch on Saturday and watched the Georgia game while we were there. Otherwise we did not leave the house. Yesterday I had the Patriots on the upper TV and the Red Sox on the lower. It was awesome.
I lamented not bringing a tent. Then I was told the compound wouldn’t let us sleep in tents, nor in our cars!
That feels a bit restrained for what is supposed to be a wild foods weekend. 😉

Yeah, I agree, I always see what I *meant* to type, what actually comes out of my fingers is sometimes a whole different story.
I’ve barely ridden my bike this year due to being strapped to my desk, so I used the Beautiful Backroads Century to do some catch-up riding. I surprised myself by completing the full 100 mile route.
you are crazy – doing the full 100 with no training. Did your kid ride with you & kick your ass?
Yes, he finished 3 hours ahead of me. He rides faster and doesn’t take breaks. Century rides are a weekly event for him as of late.

Thank you, Jenka. My legs are fine, my butt is still a bit unhappy. But surprisingly it didn’t revolt on me Saturday. That was definitely my weakest link given that I hadn’t been on my bike much.
Was talking to a woman that works at Mushroom Mountain. She said she bought a house in Seneca, SC. I started talking about Keowee (sp) Brewing, and then Freehouse in Walhalla when she asked me if I heard about the fire in downtown Walhalla. In doing some reading yesterday I saw seven businesses burned, thankfully not the brewery.
I heard about the fire and was concerned about Freehouse. I’m happy the brewery was spared.
I hadn’t heard about the fire in Wahalla – I have some friends that live pretty close to there.
Wahalla isn’t that big – that was a huge fire for that little town
