If that wasn’t a big enough gaff for Saturday, I also forgot to take a screenshot of my Wordle board so I don’t know which four words I played between my starter (USAGE) and the solution (SLUSH). Yes, to me it matters.
I was glad it appeared as if it would rain in Brevard, NC yesterday, as I don’t think my legs could have taken another day of riding, even for a 28-mile flat route. Instead we ate breakfast in Brevard, broke down camp, and then some of us drove to Walhalla, SC to visit Freehouse Brewery.

Great times in Brevard, I was a slug yesterday afternoon and will be sore for another day but it was all worth it. The views at the top were amazing and the laughs all weekend made up for that 10 mile climb.
Wish I had seen to views. I was too whooped to give a crap. 🙂

Fun lunch outing with ITP-Reader Barb and Allan at the Albert on Saturday. We were there all afternoon and then I can to go home and crash for a couple of hours, hah. Yesterday I read my book all day until the evening when I watched the Red Sox sweep the Dodgers.

Not just 10 miles, most of it was over 10% grade! I was actually happy to see a 7% grade for a small section. It was freaking brutal!

Just back from 19. HwC, it was indeed pleasant this morning to ride.
Saturday was adulting and a funeral in Marietta. Chris Hurst was Trish’s ex, but was a member of the fox hunt and an incredibly well loved guy. Heart attack at 57, on a group ride 2 weeks ago. Very sad.
Sunday I was in the crawlspace once more and finally found an actual leaking duct. Not enough to explain the Georgia Power bill, but a start.

This weekend thinking about the amount of repairs, and their associated cost, needed for the ITP Estate totally depressed me.

Back from a walk to UFO to kill Mexican Bean Beetles. There lifecycle may be ending, but so is the lifecycle of my bean plants… I didn’t have any way to carry them home, else I would have never.
Also did a Kroger run to get the rest of the ham I needed for tonight’s recipe of red beans and rice.
Glad I wasn’t able to learn of Apple’s stock decline last week, I might have cried even more this weekend.

Started watching Ballard on Prime – its entertaining enough.
Also watching Broken Wood Mysteries (really, DVD?) that we got from a friend – we can’t find the remote for the DVD player, so have to get up & push buttons on the damn machine
Saturday went into the city – and were lucky to find out that JEnka & Kevin & Finn were out & about – so we met them for lunch.
Picked up nephew Rohan late Saturday – he is here for almost 2 weeks.
CA boy slept in Sunday (which wasn’t sleeping in to him)- so we went to brunch/lunch at almost 1pm
What made the climb worse for me was that there was no aid station along the climb. Well, I think I heard that there was someone parked with water at one of the overlooks, but if so they had vacated before I got there. I ran out of water a good five miles before the last aid station, and was cramping hard. I even stopped at an overlook with a bathroom, but it had no fountain.
OUCH. THAT WAS ROUGH!!!
Also – we are going to do a canal boat thing in Scotland with Jeff (Sauercrotch) & Dana Jacobs next summer – & the dates she picked will be in July – so I will be in Scotland for my birthday next year. We are very excited, they did one this year in England, and had a blast, so I told her if she could get a bigger boat, could we come on the next one?
That sounds amazing. I’ve seen some video of folks who are renting those. Pretty cool.
and- we will be close enough to do some of the Monty Python tourist stuff that Allan & Jeff will enjoy – much more than Dana & I 🙂

I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I can either invest in the ITP Estate, or, I can travel. I don’t have the finances nor desire to do both. Well, assuming I don’t kick off anytime in the next few years. Life has become too expensive for me.
There’s a parallel here between that climb and renovating your house.
Both start with good intentions, but can turn into an endless grind of unexpected challenges. In the case of a renovation, that’s a stream of decisions, costs, delays, and the feeling that you’re too invested to stop. By the end, any extra profit may amount to paying yourself $5 an hour.
Selling as-is gives you a pretty good idea of what you’ll walk away with, and then you actually get to walk away. That’s the route I chose, and I can honestly say it was worth every penny.

I never thought I’d ever say this, but Bob Dylan put on an amazing show Friday night. He actually sang a song I knew, “It Ain’t Me, Babe”. His voice was great and his band was excellent. Bob did hide out in a hoodie all night, which made him look like monk. Still, it was a lovely evening.
Also Stevie Ray Vaughn’s older brother Jimmie was FANTASTIC. He played one Stevie song, “Texas Flood”.
Lucinda Williams sounded like a car caught in a car engine, but that wasn’t a surprise.
We twisted in the wind on attending John Mellencamp in some form or fashion, but “normal” Ameris is too expensive and a pain in the ass to get to and out of. But I did score last minute tickets to Toto (Barb, I could only get 2, otherwise I would have hollered at you). The Romantics opened and closed with their two biggest hits, which was great. Christopher Cross was excellent, and not sappy as I expected. Toto was good. They were a bit self-indulgent with long jams on deep cuts but the hits that they did play were worth it. It wasn’t anything like Styx but it was a good show.
I also figured out how to park for free at Ameris. If you arrive near show time, the traffic is so bad that they just start directing people into side lots without checking for parking passes. I think this is in part because “normal” tickets include a parking pass. Whatever, not paying for parking freed up cash for a wildly overpriced beer.

I think it’s a timing thing that is predicated on whether you get there early enough to end up in one of the main lots versus overflow parking in an office complex. I think once the main lot fills up, they’re like “fuck it”. The alternative was to pay $60 in advanced for “premium” parking. No thank you, I’ll take my chances.
