Hello, July.
A six month assessment of my 2026:
If I’m being honest, I need to give 2026 a mid-semester grade of D. Why? It’s not been a great year for me, and I am not happy. I hope those change soon.
I (perhaps) stupidly transplanted some bean plants yesterday morning. The soil in their pots was soaking wet, so I gave them just a little more water after transplanting. When I checked them at 4:30pm they looked all but dead. I gave them more water then, but am not sure they will make it. Lesson learned: when transplanting during oppressive heat, do so late in the afternoon to give the plants a chance to survive.
After finding the only sizable tomatoes in WLF with chunks removed, I’ve decided one of two things will happen for WLF in 2027:
– I will grow tomatoes in a fortified cage
– I will not grow tomatoes in WLF because all I’m doing is feeding critters
I’m going to need new underwear soon. I mean that alone knocks a letter grade off the year… 😀 Like everything else in this world, my favorite underwear is no longer made, so I have to find a suitable substitute. I am a boxer briefs man, who also likes fast drying fabrics since I am also a sweaty man. Wish me luck.
Wordle: four, my starter was FLORA
Walked to Glenwood Kroger this morning to buy onions and bell peppers (WLF Fail) for the pickled relish that I am going to make with cucumbers (WLF Success) that I harvested yesterday.
When I got to Kroger I realized that my fly was wide open. I walked past four people, not one mentioned my fly. Well, perhaps I can believe they were not looking at my crotch? 😀
Also, was forced to run sprinklers this morning to keep crops alive. 🙁
look up the Toolshedusa.com – Allan loves the boxers I bought from them. (they aren’t cheap, but they last) They supply athletic teams it seems mostly. I email them last time since I couldn’t find what I wanted, and they email me back & sent what I wanted – about 6 months later – I finally got an invoice.
I will check them out. Thanks!
Hello! I have almost nothing to report because I’ve been on staycation this week and for the most part holing up in my bedroom reading or on the couch watching sportsing. Sunday we went to Moe’s & Joe”s. Monday we went for sushi. Last night we went to Taqueria del Sol. This morning I had my dr appointment and now we are packing the car for 8 glorious days in the mountains. We would have left Monday or Tuesday but it took me six months to schedule that appointment and when I called to ask if I could reschedule they said “November.” No thanks.
You missed my musing about whether I met your CSA farmer, Daniel Parsons, at a workshop at Emory Oxford Monday. He turned out to be Bob’s and Laura’s CSA farmer.
Making pickled relish for the first time. I am going to “can” most of it, but also put some in a refrigerated jar to eat sooner than later.
Jars are out of the hot water bath, five of the six have already sealed. If the sixth one doesn’t pop, it will go into the refrigerator to be eaten sooner.
Oooh, I think the sixth just popped!
Wordle in 5.
Sorry I’m late. Got up and at it this morning and drove down to Pine Mountain to ride the Iron Horse trail. 25 miles in the book. Felt pretty good until the turnaround and then slogged back with one bench break and one standing break when I answered Debbie’s call.
Seems like the GMC is always on a long trip when the oil needs changing. I did it in Lexington this past winter and she had to do it in BFE Illinois today. Only a PITA when towing a trailer! She took 2 puppies, leaving me with Dora (the explorer). Hers did great on the ride and overnight. Dora, never having spent the night alone, spent the first 15 minutes barking, then settled.
Nap time.

Well done. Save some for Friday, or not so I can keep up with you.
Where are you kids riding on Friday? I might be able to crash your party – I’m not working! (but Allan is) Allan is so happy to NOT be involved with the Peachtree for the 1st time in forever.
I am taking my new bike as well as Steve’s frame back to his house. We are riding at 8:00am from there.
hmmmm – not sure I’d want to get up & going that early on my day off, but – if I do, I’ll let you kids know
Wow, while working in the kitchen I missed DR Congo’s goal versus England.
Rats, England just scored the equalizer.
And spoiler, they won 2-1. This is what Germany should have done!!!
Another heat advisory has been issued for “unseasonably” warm temperatures. When will we realize that this is the new “normal”.
I completely forgot that today is Canada Day!
the good old days of hashing where we always had a fun hash today
Yep, I miss the fun.
