Well, Ormewood Farm was supposed to notify me of their decision on farm allotments by May 16th, but that date has come and gone and I’ve heard nothing. This doesn’t bode well for me.
On Saturday I transplanted 24 bell pepper seedlings (wee little things) with the intention of giving away no fewer than twelve. It’s late for them to start, but we can have pepper weather all the way into November ITP, so I think that if they grow they will produce late season fruit.
Yesterday I baked a breakfast casserole. Instead of a base made from frozen potatoes, I used the remainder of the focaccia which was starting to dry out and become hard. And now that I think about it, I wonder how using leftover waffles would work as a base? For dinner I spent the four hours necessary to make a chicken and sausage gumbo from scratch. The gumbo was very delicious, and perhaps the best thing about it was that I used onion I picked from Wee Little Farm this week, and bell pepper and okra which have been in the freezer since last year’s harvest.
Even with an unexpected rain shower yesterday afternoon, the heat forced my air conditioner into action for the first time this year.
Wordle: four, my starter was ALTER
Trying to decide if I should go to a doc-in-a-box today to have someone look at my tight index finger since it’s a wee bit infected. I tried to manually drain it over the weekend to no avail.
What a crazy weekend, Laura and Travis went up to Massachusetts for the graduation ceremony of her niece from Smith college. They are already on an early flight home for Travis’s graduation tomorrow.
While they were gone I got to watch her sisters dog. This dog is small and old and does not like to play dog games, my dog is a puppy and large and loves to play. I got to play referee all weekend and had to keep them separated. Separate feedings, separate walks, separate crates, it was a severe PIA.
Through all the madness I was able to almost finish the porch. All that is left is baluster caps and paint. Caps will get done this week, paint will have to wait for the pressure treated wood to dry out a bit.
Graduation party on Saturday and I feel like I’m forgetting something…………..oh yeah, BRAG is coming up. Maybe I can focus on that for a minute this week.
What is the is BRAG you reference, Bob? 🙂
You know that thing that I promised myself I would train for. Turns out I’m a big fat liar 🙂
I resemble that remark! 😀
Wordle in 4. They are getting on my nerves. BYLAW? Really?
Exciting weekend at times. Saturday evening, we went to Debbie’s school chums 60th birthday event. Lots of hors d’ ourvs and an open bar. We left there we another friend and had dinner at Nic and Norman’s (all in Senoia). As we were leaving, a drunk was accosting 2 women who apparently didn’t want to spend time with him. He was loudly swearing at them, would walk away, come back and start over. After the 3rd time, I’m calling in air support (911) and he starts in on me. The bar staff are all like “you better leave now, the cops are coming”, but he’s too blown for that. In 2 minutes, we have 2 units and they have a long discussion about life choices. Hopefully he gets out this morning.
This morning, neighbor Michelle reported a horse with her morning work crew. Henry got chased by his brothers and went over the fence at some point. He was no worse for wear, which considering he’s recovering from minor surgery, is a good thing. Maybe Henry wanted a cup of coffee with the crew?

Wow.
At the urgent care. A wise friend convinced me to go have my finger checked out. Thanks, Sal.
And since I’m so close to Lowe’s, that might be my next stop.
Fuck me, $250 to visit, before they’ve even taken me back! That’s a new tv, or a night in Greenville!!!
So much for going to Lowe’s after this.
I figured out the insurance plan I picked has whatever deductible amount I need to pay for doctor visits – so the past 2 times when I thought it would be the $40 co-pay – it was $300+ dollars.
And I will be visiting the dentist on Wednesday, so that will be at least another $300 out of my HSA. 🙁
And speaking of BRAG. I had forgotten you spend a night in Trillith, near Fayetteville. As we were driving to dinner in Senoia Saturday, I was seeing BRAG marking coming towards us. There will be a rest stop in Luthersville. I think I will have already left for Vermont when you come through.
When you described VT it sounded as if you would be out of town. We go through Luthersville, avoiding your bridge closure on 54.
The bridge should be open. I think this week.
Don’t think BRAG knows that, unless they plan to reroute us again.
Baseball-filled weekend. Went to the Braves-Sox game on Friday night. Great weather but bad outcome. Saturday morning we took Finn to his last Buddy Baseball game of the season, thank god. This one was OTP somewhere near like Sandy Springs or Dunwoody. Murphy Candler Park? Then we went for lunch at the Albert before retiring back home for the rest of the day. Sunday we went to the Braves-Sox game early because a bunch of my work friends were there so we met them for a beer ahead of time. Sox lost again but at least they didn’t get swept.
Tonight and tomorrow night are the only days within a two week stretch when we don’t have Finn. I will be enjoying the quiet.
Believe it or not, I think you were in City of Brookhaven!
Murphy Candler Park – it is ITP – but good try Jenka.
Hahahaha… nice try.
Well shit, I thought we crossed over 285, but I guess not. It was still too damn far.
weekend was busy enough, but not too busy
– Allan worked Friday & Saturday, so I was left to my own devices.
Sunday I did something I hadn’t done in a few years – I hit golf balls!
I went to this “learn to golf” clinic & brunch, Mindy was interested in learning to golf, so I signed up too. It was fun (the instructors I told to just ignore me), and maybe I’ll try to actually play someday again soon.
Back from the doctor and CVS for antibiotic pickup. I’m assuming that I will receive another bill for this visit. Doctor looked at it, drained it, bandaged it, and took a culture to test.
Plan to stay at home rest of my day.
Eating some pimento cheese on Ritz crackers as a reward for adulting.
As I hear the sound of wood chipping I wonder how much wood my across the street neighbor is getting rid of.
Jenka, there’s officially one less car clogging up your daily commute. Rachel is no longer a Paideia student. The graduation event was at Symphony Hall, and thankfully they kept it to the planned 2 hours. Afterwards while Rachel mingled a couple of us went to Pour on 14th/Peachtree. This was my first time in a self-serve bar, and I tell you what, the guy who poured my beers for me needs some serious training. 😉 I was a bit grossed out by the checkout screen that asked me to tip the staff on the beers that *I* had poured myself. Nope, not falling for that, you fuckers. Maybe I’ll go back again in 2 years when my son graduates, and then never again.
I visited Pour once, that was enough for me.
Congrats to Rachel! The traffic around Paideia has been weirdly light this entire academic year. Maybe they changed their start time? Anyway, I am NOT complaining! 🙂
I’ve been to that place several times but not in about 10 years, when it was called Tap. It has always been hit-or-miss, no matter what it’s called.
Congrats to Rachel and best of luck at nursing school!
Thank you, Steve! She’s ready for it.
Thanks, Jenka! Both kids drove themselves to school this year, so I have no current info on traffic patterns. The last day for Paideia proper is May 29, but now that the seniors aren’t clogging up the road, you should have an easier ride in.
Also, thanks for reminding me that place used to be called Tap. I went there randomly a few times before too, but it’s been a long time. There’s a Pour Taproom on the Beltline as well that I will be assiduously avoiding. $12 for a beer that I have to pour myself that ends up being 50% foam is definitely a non-starter.
As I am watching a video about Jeremy Brett, who played the quintessential Sherlock Holmes in the 1980s, I found out that his Watson, David Burke, died just last week.
Watching this PBS video about Okra. Obviously, Georgia is represented,

I do miss the fried okra that The EARL used to serve. It was soooo good, I was always convinced that they had someone’s grandma locked in the kitchen making it.
I imbibed at The EARL on Saturday, but did not peruse the food menu.
Unexpected consequence of finger work done today: bandage makes it impossible to log into iPad using fingerprint. Apparently I set up two fingers, one on each hand but the left hand doesn’t work as well as the right.
Also, glad I wasn’t planning to make dough today because I wouldn’t be about to knead dough with my finger in a bandage. Even wearing a glove my finger might hurt too much to knead today. Planning to attempt hamburger buns on Thursday, finger willing.
