The Thrill of Victory:
I have completed my “True South” project — recoding the information presented in eight seasons of episodes, usually six episodes per season. I have put pins onto Google Maps for all of the points of interest that I could locate, and am in the process of making Apple Music playlists for the songs referenced in each episode. Okay so I’m not done done, but at least I have done all of the watching and note taking.
The Agony of Defeat:
On Tuesday the YouTube algorithm recommended to me a video in which a British woman named Anna Lapwood explained the workings of a church pipe organ. I was enthralled.
Before I go further, a wee little bit of family lore…
I have (had) always been told that my paternal grandfather, a man I never met, made a great living as a pipe organ tuner. I was also told that he pissed away a lot of the wealth he earned, as a womanizer – a gene that obviously skipped over your truly.
And back to agony…
Lapwood is an amazingly talented organist and plays incredibly beautiful music on the pipe organ. For shits and giggles I decided to see if Lapwood toured, realizing that a church pipe organ is not something which can be schlepped on tour. She is playing a free concert in Athens on April 19!!!, which is also the last day of Spring Tune Up. Of course the show is sold out and I’ve yet to find a waitlist, but I’m trying.
Wordle: four, my starter was SHOCK
Today’s Wordle starter was inspired by the raccoon with whom I came face-to-face when I opened the blinds to the sliding doors which lead to the deck; fortunately the door was still between us. It was climbing up the outside of the glass panel doors, and I heard it doing so. The makeshift screen that I had up has fallen and is on the deck. I’m not sure if it came down prior to the raccoon’s ascent, or afterwards. I may have also now identified one of the species of critters that destroy WLF’s crops…
Georgia is not the only state losing breweries. YouTube recommended this video talking about a Chicago brewery closing after eleven years from a couple of days ago.
Technically I’m first because Paulie commenting on his own post does not count!
Truth!
Never claimed it! 🙂
That lady sounds really interesting. I looked her up and she is going to be playing the Sydney Opera House this spring. She is a big deal!
Went to the Hawks game with Sarah last night. Hawks lost but it was to the second best team in the league, so no shame. It was an 8:00 pm game so I didn’t get home until 10:45 and I about died.
She is. At 30!!!
Most of her appearances are sold out. I’m not sure how many are free, but still.
Wordle in 6!
Another good day yesterday. Picked up wheels, then drove to LaJolla for breakfast at a joint that opened in 1960. The original owner followed the Dodgers here from Brooklyn.
Whale watching was a bust. Just a couple pods of dolphins. A nice day for a boat ride. Also, a trip through a smugglers cave “down 141 steps to a hidden sea access used by bootleggers during prohibition.” $21 tourist trap.
Very good Mexican dinner in old town. Simple on the train.
Delta is saying the weather will be a problem tomorrow. Farm sitter needs to leave and we are looking at a couple of other friends who might pinch hit. We may be “stuck” here until Sunday.

Bitterly cold here tomorrow, may never get above freezing.
good luck getting home, most of the weather is supposed to be East of us – but who knows for sure………..
It depends on when your flight is, the bad weather isn’t supposed to start until evening.
Final January Kroger 4x Fuel Points secured.
what’s your total? We need to run out for a few things to up our total a little bit more
Finishing the month with 1058. That will make for a reasonable fill up before I head to Florida next month.
since Athens isn’t that far from Rutledge (trust me, I know, I had to go to a bike shop there one year) – if I was you, I’d just go & see if there are any no shows or last minute seats available.
This is exactly what I was thinking. Plus people are much more likely to no-show for a free show.
I will keep looking for a waitlist. I may make the trip, we’ll see.
Eh, just borrow Bob’s One Wheel and listen from outside of the venue. 😉
Hahaha
David for the win!!
good answer David
Your grandfather may have not passed on the womanizer gene but he did pass on the love of music gene. Not very many people would search out a pipe organ concert, plus your love of obscure indie bands tells me you have that music gene. You may have not met the man but there is a part of him running around in your DNA.
Thanks Bob.
When I was a child, exiting elementary school (after 6th grade in NY) I had to take a series of tests, including “singing” (hitting notes). It’s been a long time, so the memory is foggy, but as I recall, I scored exceptionally high on the music test and was told I should take music class electives in junior high. I did not, and then we moved to Florida after my 7th grade year was complete.
Though still “cold”, the weather outside, especially in the sunshine, is amazing. I might have to change exercise gears and go for a long walk instead of jumping on the trainer and watching soccer.
At Kroger this morning I bought bacon and jalapeño peppers, the two ingredients I was missing for making a pot of baked beans. I certainly won’t mind having an inefficient oven set to 250°F for eight hours tomorrow. And after heating a portion of the house all day, I will have delicious beans as a side dish for dinner!
