You will shake your head when I tell you this, but I am reading a really great book about okra called “The Whole Okra: A Seed to Stem Celebration” written by Chris Smith. I’m reading this in anticipation of Wee Little Farm’s okra production later this summer, even though my okra growing has been underwhelming so far.

The refrigerator pickles I made yesterday were made using Alton Brown’s Bread & Butter Pickle recipe.

Last night I made a nest of Asian glass noodles and ate it with some yellow squash, zucchini, green bell pepper, and a pepper of unknown variety, all of which were harvested from Wee Little Farm.

My movie last night for Monday Dinner and a Movie was High Fidelity. I just realized that we missed John Cusak’s 59th birthday on June 28th.

I binge-watched the rest of the fourth season of “The Bear” this weekend; still no laughs. 😉

I wonder when I will get back into exercising? Partially related, I’m battling an ankle injury that I have no idea how it happened. I’m also bummed because I don’t feel as if I’ve used these long days to their fullest potential.

Wee Little Farm is starting to crank out food — peppers (hot and sweet), eggplant, squash, potatoes, beets, and a lot of ripening tomatoes; cucumbers are starting to emerge as well. I hope that the tomatoes will be ready for use when I can process them. I might need to freeze ripe ones so they don’t go bad.

Can we please stop categorizing “The Bear” as comedy? I don’t think that it even classifies as a “dark” comedy. To my surprise the entire season of “The Bear” dropped onto Hulu the other day, I’ve watched on episode thus far.

Yesterday was mostly spent at the ITP Estate, except for helping Betsy out with an errand, and then going over to her house for dinner. The biggest wins for my day were mowing the front yard, and hammering in some posts so that I could secure five pepper plants which are finally starting to grow. WLF is at an interesting transition point, and unfortunately it appears that the seven fig tree saplings I transplanted on Tuesday have all died. In addition to my fig woes, none of my bean plantings this year have gone as expected; either I’ve had lousy seed germination, transplant mortality, or critters eating the plants.

I’ve not seen Sluggo in a handful of days, so I expect it’s gone to another level of existence (read “died”). I can’t imagine how Sluggo can survive this heat and dry weather, so I think that I’m correct.

I did stay indoors for most of yesterday, save the couple of hours in the morning I sweat working in Wee Little Farm, declining to ride last night.

Yesterday was a money spending day! In addition to paying my healthcare premium, I ordered a reconditioned Shark vacuum from Amazon, and registered for the NC Mountain Ride. Good thing I have so much money coming in! Oh, wait…

While not cheap, the vacuum was much cheaper than a new one, which satisfies me since I will be pushing it to its limits with the ITP Estate’s needs.

Last night’s dinner was ramen with WLF vegetables — yellow squash, long purple eggplant, green pepper, and onion.

Hello heat, I was not expecting to see you for another week. I don’t think I will be spending much time outside today. One of the indoor chores I will be doing today is registering for the NC Mountain Ride, which means that I am going to have to find more time for riding again.

Last night I had WLF potatoes and a WLF jalapeño as part of my dinner. The movie I watched for Monday Night Dinner and a Movie was Saving Mr. Banks.

I had a weekend before the weekend!

As you know, I spent Thursday night in Dublin so that I could attend an event in Uvalda, with a stop in Vidalia along the way. Yes, I really wanted to buy onions in Vidalia, but didn’t.

Even though the four hour event started late, I enjoyed it a lot, including the free lunch which was provided. Did you know you can grow rice in Middle/South Georgia? I did not. Did you know a major hurricane blew through that area last year? Yes, we all knew that but I saw a lot of the remaining devastation as I drove through the region. I learned about a program where existing farms are looking to lease/sell land as long as it’s not developed for housing; Wee Little Farm at Final Chapters Estate may not be a pipe dream after all!

My actual weekend was pretty mundane. On Saturday I met my drinking buddies at Black Bear Tavern on Peachtree. There I violated one of my drinking rules — ordering from a menu without listed prices. When my bill arrived and I discovered my beers were $9 each, I was a little taken aback.

Remember the other day when I was bummed that I missed out on getting a ticket to an event? Well, I discovered that if I used the Eventbrite app, tickets were still available.

So, here I am in Uvalda, GA. What, you’ve never heard of Uvalda? It’s an hour south of Dublin, which where I spent last night, which makes it about three hours southeast of Atlanta. The event I am attending is a short farm tour and then three sessions regarding farming practices such as sustainability. Oh, and I am getting a free lunch.

I had to do a double take when the route Google took me went through Newborn, a town I’ve visited many times via bicycle on Spring Tune Up.

And, I got my $1.25 tweezers from a Dollar Tree in Dublin yesterday.

I had a very productive day yesterday.

By lunchtime I had:
– transplanted some bean plants (hopefully in an area where they won’t get eaten by a critter)
– gotten the M6’s emissions test done (it passed)
– renewed the M6’s tag for another year
– discovered I couldn’t renew my drivers license at the Kroger kiosk
– gone to Dollar Tree and purchased a bench scraper, some 70% isopropyl alcohol, and a nail brush
– mailed a letter at the Scottdale post office
– stopped at Lidl for some salad and peanuts
– attempted to propagate a raspberry plant from a current raspberry plant

I know that I am over a month early for getting my automobile tasks done, but why wait if I have the time? I need to figure out the best time to go to the DMV for my drivers license renewal.

You will never believe me, but it rained in East Atlanta yesterday!

I have a big day of errands and choring ahead of me today. My day started when I awoke around 4:30am, not by choice, but my errands can’t start in earnest until 9:00am when the emissions test place opens.
