Last night marked the return of Monday Night Dinner and a Movie. I made “Braised Chicken with Mushrooms and Grits” from the book “The Southern Pantry Cookbook” by Jennifer Chandler, and followed that with a viewing of “In Bruges”.

My disease seems to be on the wane. Fever broke last night and coughing seems to be lessening. So far, no one else has caught my cooties.

We are on a Ferry to Dubrovnik- it’s been 4 hrs- I think .5-1 hour more. Stops at some islands- I think these Ferries should be making some money. There are ferries that take cars, we are in a passenger one. AC is working well, I’m afraid it’s going to be horribly hot when we get off this thing.
Bought a 3 day Dubrovnik pass for 50€, 1 day was 40€, figured this way we can see things this afternoon & tomorrow. Bus rides are included, so that will be nice. Gotta figure out getting ba onto the ferry terminal Thursday morning early.
Our Bolt driver was very nice, and no where does the app show a place to tip. (That I could find) That’s a nice change.

Our hotel has breakfast included, but it doesn’t start until 7. We left at 6:45, so they gave us a box breakfast. Had a little sandwich (I think turkey, but not 100% sure) a yogurt & apple, and canned fruit/ice tea drink. I thought that was very nice.
Almost to our destination- maybe 30 more minutes.
So, 5.5 hrs. I really wish I could sleep sitting up.
We need to get more Euros at some point, the boat wants cash for any drinks we buy all week. I was thinking we’d use a card.
I’m sure the ATM will give you what you need.
Got in the M6 to drive to run errands, and scrapped them all when I saw how shitty traffic is this morning. I need to figure out how to move, this city is too annoying to me now.
Made it to the hotel in Dubrovnik- decided to walk, it’s only about a mile. Bad idea….. up lots of stairs, and it’s way too hot out. We will be blowing lots of money on Uber /Bolt the rest of the day. Need new dry clothes

I had to run an errand that had me out on campus for about 20 minutes, and now I am drenched in sweat. It is hot and humid out there.

Trying hard to improve my mood, and to become productive (without going outside). So far this morning’s abort of my errands is still irritating me.
Back to the house after a trip to the Culloden battlefield and a cool burial cairn (pile of rocks) 4000 years old. Bigger stones around the outside of the cairns align with the winter solstice, so not only is it a burial site, but a calendar.
Back to the hotel room- Dubrovnik is a town of stairs. This place is crazy steep ups & downs.
Took the cable car up to the Panorama restaurant- you can hike up to it- even on a cool day it would be crazy challenging. We asked if we could get a table, they said if you eat fast, we have reservations for it in 45 minutes or so. No problem!
Been learning the Yugoslavia / Croatia / etc. history – and how it’s a whole bunch of different countries now. All that took from 1910-1991? Allan remembers so much

Wow, I just discovered that American author Wendell Berry dies yesterday, aged 92. You are probably not familiar with his work unless you are into reading about agrarian life in the US.
