One of the benefits of having time is cooking dishes which take time. Case in point, red beans and rice. Following the recipe in Emeril Lagasse’s book “Louisiana Real & Rustic” my dinner took a little more than four hours to make. Was it worth it? To me, yes. I used some of the vegetables and meat that I had in the refrigerator, and also decided to toss in some frozen okra from last year’s harvest.
In addition to dinner, yesterday I baked a pan of bacon, baked a breakfast casserole, and, made a large jar of bread and butter pickles with cucumbers I harvested in the morning. I also dirtied a lot of cookware in the process…
I was going to attempt my first bike ride since Saturday this morning, before heading up to get some education at Schoolhouse. Instead, I have decided to do some much needed cleanup in the basement and in Wee Little Farm.
Wordle: three, my starter was TREAD
Two follow-ups from yesterday:
• Paulie: Yep, I had a definite sense of urgency that worked as a lever to pry me out of my house.
• Barb: Thank you for confirming the pattern that I picked up on with regard to Ameris throwing parking passes out the window.
yes- it seems like getting there closer to concert start time (& walking a little further) is the way to go!
Yes! The office parks are much faster to get out of as well. Not fast per se, nothing is fast at Ameris, but faster than the giant lots.
Wordle in 4.
Watching the weather, but today should be the day to make some concrete. I bought 6- 80lb bags and have prepped the area. As the spot tapirs out very thin, this is just the first step and there will have to be another type of concrete to finish.
Watching the women’s TdF yesterday was a reminder that the women are frequently more exciting than the men. Former world champion could not catch the solo leader, who had soloed for 80km. For some reason, the field made no real effort to catch her. Maybe they know something no one else does, but time will tell.
Time to make the concrete.

Women are pretty much always more exciting then men. 😉
Break from morning chores. I watered plants and picked my first batch of beans from WLF@UFO. Next year, no matter where I grow, I am going to grow two varieties of beans, and that’s it. I may also skip tomatoes next year thanks to the critters and worms.
While the jury is still out, my growing this year has been more than disappointing.
There was no baseball last night so we watched a couple of episodes of Virgin River. It’s so dumb and yet we are riveted.
Virgin River is that way – I agree………. are you on previous seasons? or the current one?
The latest season (I think). It’s taken us so long to watch them they might’ve come out with another season already, but I don’t *think* so.
Early lunch — bacon and tomato sandwich with potato salad. Tomato was the rare ripe one in WLF not mangled by critters.
We went down to Lee& White last night to meet up with 90s hashing friend Cheese Spread & her husband. They went to Wild Heaven before we got there, then a couple beers at Monday night, then some food at the Food Hall. That Food Hall isn’t bad – great selection of food.
Allan’s mom’s sister & his cousin are here on their way home to Ohio after a cruise – so, I was “asked” to help with some dinner tonight – which is code for – you guys can figure out dinner tonight – right?
If I am eating at Lee+White, I’m getting Eats from inside Wild Heaven.
^THIS.
since I’m an OTP person, I don’t know & love EATS like you ITP people (& honestly, I forgot about it – since I wanted to see what the food hall was all about)
OH – and – you can get a code from whatever place to cover any parking fees – the signs are 2 hours free, then $5 or more after that.
Yesterday’s stage winner, who took the yellow jersey left it all on the road- yesterday. Nothing left for the TT this morning, but is still sitting 4th overall.
its POURING – Paulie – you getting any rain?
It is pouring over here in N. Druid Hills.
I’m watching the weather and expect rain later. Concrete has been postponed for the time being.
Of course not!
A little more than 0.5” of rain fell on WLF yesterday.
