At one time Oakhurst Porchfest was a highlight of my year. On Saturday I cycled over to Oakhurst to start listening to bands, and searching for free beer. I found a lot of the former, but none of the latter. I had a fun time, until I didn’t. While waiting to watch the band Boxcar Radio, who I’ve seen before, I decided I was no longer having fun and cycled home.
Remarkably, the strangest thing that happed on the day was getting a compliment about my mountain bike.
Wordle: three, my starter was ASTER. Yesterday’s solution was the word I originally selected to be today’s starter!
Wordle in 4.
Good morning from Stone Mountain Park campground. We’re moving right along with games set up and everything‘s going very well. Camping has been very convenient although I haven’t used the local showers yet. I’ve been taking a navy shower here in the living quarters.
Saturday I managed to drop a 4 x 4 post on my left foot. I screamed and it was heard all the way across on the games field. Nnothing broken, just a bruise of pretty colors. The weather forecast for the weekend is looking OK but I do see some rain possibly on Sunday, which could be unfortunate.

Ouch.
Good luck with all your preparations. Hope the dry weather holds all weekend for you.
ouch!
We reccy’d for Wheelhopper yesterday & I twisted my knee trying to cross this little stream & slipped – it seemed fine last night, but this morning it is very sore.
Wheelhopper is Sunday – so I’m with you on the no rain wish
On Saturday Debbie and I trekked to Florence, Alabama to see Jackson Browne. Although he only played maybe 4 of his hits, it was a great show. His voice sounds the same as ever, and he’s a genuinely nice guy.
Yesterday we drove back through Huntsville and busted her 95 year old friend Dex out for lunch at his favorite Mexican restaurant. He’s a really sweet guy, and his brain is sharp as a tack. He fell three times in July, so he’s wheelchair bound, but he’s hanging in there.
Saturday included a visit in Carrolton to my kids’ grandmother’s house. Claire is aging very well at 84. If Claire and Dex can do it, I can too. A positive attitude clearly does wonders.
Jackson Browne would be fun to see – so, if he didn’t play his hits – was it mostly new music?
He played a couple of very political songs that were surprisingly very well received by the crowd. He definitely had an IDGAF attitude about it. He’s been playing for 50 years now, so he has a lot of material to choose from. It felt a little like seeing a Bob Dylan concert, I’ve seen Dylan twice and never recognized a single song. He wrote the song “Take it Easy” for the Eagles, and he closed with that. I liked his version much better than the Eagles, but I’ve also heard their version way too many times for this life. One woman standing near us said that she’s seen him play 15 times now. There’s so many bands I love, I can’t imagine seeing any one band that many times, but there’s definitely a few that I’ve seen 2 or 3 times.
Since it was a festival, we were able to work our way almost to the rail at the stage. There was one row of people ahead of us, and none of them moved the whole time. I was ready to pounce on their spot if they did. I’d definitley see Jackson Browne again if the opportunity arose.
Having a rough time motivating myself this morning. Have made dough for a loaf of bread to be baked tomorrow morning, so there is that.
What a great weekend doing nothing! General Muir on Friday. Saturday lounged until 1:30 then went to Six Feet for late lunch. Then home where I did not leave the house again until I left for the office this morning. Yesterday I read my book all day and watched football (Pats win!). Then I went to bed early because I was so exhausted from doing nothing all day.
Emory Fall Break today and tomorrow, which doesn’t affect me at all except that there will be fewer people around.
This morning the weather app said 66 degrees out, but when I left the house the car temp said 52. WTF?!
I had a very busy weekend –
Friday night spent at the Marietta Square with Mindy, started at Contrast Ales (same as the one in Chamblee) then the wait was long at Gianni & Macs – so we wasted that time at the Marietta Wine Market & found some parrothead friends there. Italian dinner was excellent – they do this thing where they toss the fettuccini noodles in a big wheel of cheese tableside – that was kind of cool. AND, it was very tasty.
Saturday was all afternoon at Porchfest – saw a couple people that were really good singers, some of the bands were ok to not very good. Brewery Road at 5pm was the highlight, it was a blast. It was like Cheddarhead with all the hashers I hadn’t seen on forever.
Sunday morning we worked on the Wheelhopper trail, rode bikes to the Square for brunch & to check out Chalktoberfest – it was WAY TOO PEOPLY, so we headed back home. Trail will be on the short side, but that’s ok.
Yes, I have heard of this practice where they toss pasta in a wheel of parmesan table-side, and I need to find somewhere to experience this!
come to Marietta, I’ll go again.
I think our waitress said it was pecorino cheese, and they have to get a new wheel at least every month
Have been able to get myself out in WLF. So much to do!
Taking a short break…
Received an email from Atlanta United offering 2026 season tickets. Yeah, right… I wouldn’t want to pay their prices of they had a great team, nevermind after seeing the shitty one which wore their kits this year.
Yes, we’ve already told our group that we won’t be participating next year. We had 5 games and I think we only went to three of them, and the last set I couldn’t even sell on Stubhub so we had to eat it. We’ve decided to just buy tickets ad hoc when/if we want to go.
I am hoping T-Mobile offers the MLS Pass for free again next year, saving me the $80/year I spend on soccer watching. Attending professional sporting events is no longer in my budget.
