Here’s a funny story from Monday night’s USA v Belgium game:
I have a bone to pick with FIFA, and not regarding the overturning of the red card. Why was Belgium, a team whose country’s flag is black, red, and yellow, wearing a kit that was white with splotches of red and blue? It causes confusion for those watching on tv, especially when that team is dominating the game. When I watch on Telemundo they put a colored circle next to the country name in the scoreboard to help the viewer; such is not the case on Fox. I realized I was the only one who thought that the team wearing white, red, and blue was the United States when that team scored and I was the lone person who cheered. It was like the guy in the Schoolhouse Rock song who interjects “Hoooray, I’m for the other team!” 😀
I am having a hard time getting on a bicycle. Because I really dislike the new(ish) meeting/partying spot for the Tuesday night ride I have had difficulty riding with them. I’ve registered for the NC Mountain Ride, which is at the beginning of August in Brevard, so I really need to spin the pedals.
Wordle: three, my starter was LOTUS
In honor of running my 25th Peachtree this year, I tracked down a race shirt from 1993 on eBay. It looks and feels brand new. I wore all my past Peachtree shirts until they were threadbare, so it’s nice to have a throwback again.
Very cool
You reminded me that last Saturday was the thirtieth anniversary of my first Peachtree, which was also my first 10k. Even if I still had/have that t-shirt there is no way that I’d fit into it today. I was around 180 pounds back then, I’m considerably heavier than that today.
You’re in good company weighing more today than you did 30 years ago. A nice bonus for me was that the eBay listing said it was an XL t-shirt, but what arrived was an L, which is actually what I wanted. My original shirt was an XL because for decades I used to hide out in my clothes.
I can’t rememeber if the Peachtree was my first 10K or not. I moved to Atlanta in 1986, so it took me 7 years to become indoctrinated into the fold.
Before that, I was such a naif that I remember seeing people walking around in their Peachree shirts at the Lenox fireworks, and thinking “They ran 6 miles and they’re still walking around?” I truly, truly had a sheltered childhood. It really was like growing up in a cult of 4 (my parents, my younger brother, and me).
Wordle in 4.
23 miles in the books! Decided to beat the heat and except for riding into the sun in a couple spots, really nice out.
The Fox coverage has a small line around the team name that indicates the jersey color. Telemundo’s is much more obvious.
The FB memes of “talking with” the soon to be late Senator Mitch McConnell are screaming hilarious. I could barely turn off and go to bed.
May be in the city to shop for hiking boots today. May meet friends for dinner at Chateau Elan.

Dinner at Chateau Elan? Fannnnnnnncy!
In a bar to drink bourbon. And I may pass.
Seems like a missed opportunity to me. Oh well, you do you. 🙂
Off to a productive start.
I hand washed some clothes and hung them outside to use this sun and heat to dry them.
I walked over to UFO to kill some more Mexican Bean Beetles. If my plants can make it through this infestation I might actually get beans from them.
Speaking of plants, WLF continues to disappoint this year. This is the first year since I first started in 2020 that I’ve had widespread disaster.
Upon returning home I “mowed” the front “lawn”.
I need to take FrankenTrek out for a spin to check the seat height, but some bodily discomfort will probably make that impossible today.
Forgot to mention that while at UFO I noticed a number of plots which seem to be ignored, I wish these were available for my renting instead of the minuscule 4×8 raised bed I was offered. Maybe next year?
Debbie is riding Walter for the first time here. He’s a known flight risk and when Debbie wasn’t able to mount the first time, it was off to the races. He is now recaptured and she’s having a good ride.
And of course, too soon!! She had an unscheduled exit as she was getting off- touched his butt and it startled him. She’s fine and he’s recaptured- again.
This is why bikes are better. Unless you are mounting on a steep decline they rarely run away.
I hope that she had her Michellin Man suit on! He’s not Walter White, he’s Walter Outtasight!
