Hope you all had an awesome Fourth of July.
It was good to go out for my inaugural ride on “Candy”, my candy apple red colored bike (or as ITP-Reader Steve said my “Crimson Tide red colored bike”). I realize that there are a lot of things on this bike about which I have no prior experience like disc brakes and through-axle skewers. I should probably learn how to debug and maintain these before I go out for a long solo ride.
I knew there was a chance of ripping the rubber AirPods earpieces by trying to remove them for cleaning, unfortunately I was correct. I successfully got the first one off, but ripped the second one. Fortunately, they are not that expensive to replace when buying third party versions at least, so I’ve ordered some from Amazon.
The heat finally defeated my basement. Bermed on two sides, the ITP Estate’s basement naturally remains at least five degrees cooler than the main floor, unless there is no break in the heat; then, it’s only about two-to-three degrees cooler. You wouldn’t think a couple of degrees would make much of a difference, but it does.
Wee Little Farm received a proper rain on Saturday afternoon and I couldn’t have been happier. The farm definitely needed the water and everything around East Atlanta got soaked, reducing the possibility of fire caused by fireworks. Had I imagined that WLF would get 2″ of rain I’d have put out my water catchment buckets.
Wordle: four, my starter was CURVE
It appeared as if it were going to rain like hell last night, but then nothing materialized. Pity.
I know the answer is “money” but since Spain has its own Grand Tour, why the heck has the Tour de France been riding through it? I know this is not a new phenomenon, but I wish the entirety of the Tour de France occurred within France’s borders.

Wordle in 4 very early this morning after watching England beat Mexico.
Saturday we just hung out. Debbie was worried about the new boy (working title “Denny”) and the fireworks. She gave him a little something something to take the edge off and he was fine. Getting along nicely with his new brother Henry.
After cracking my windshield in Vermont, I wanted get get a smaller one and as I was looking for something in the shop, noticed another windshield that I was given when I bought the bike. In taking the old one off, I discovered a broken mounting piece and have attempted a repair with some super glue. We shall see.
We did get about a quarter inch of rain late last night. It was just starting to sprinkle as I was getting out of the hot tub.

And yesterday’s finish with Pog almost pushing Del Torro across the line for the win was very cool. He was genuinely moved (pun intended). A big crush early today has 19 OTB almost 10 minutes.
The Braves were delayed by an hour yesterday afternoon, so it definitely rained down there. It briefly rained lightly up here for about an hour around 8:00 last night. The new awning held up beautifully and we were able to continue to sit on the deck and enjoy it.
We have done nothing but eat, drink, watch World Cup, and listen to Braves baseball on the radio. The Red Sox are on the left coast and the games start at 9:40 or 10. I am in bed reading by that point.
The northern ITP Readership mentioned rain that never made it ITP. The radar looked as if it was going to downpour around 6pm, but it did not.
Wild times up here in the burbs! Woke up yesterday morning to a tree branch on my brand new porch! The porch itself seems OK due to the overengineering of Allan 🙂 only lost the 2 lower railings. Had to break out the chainsaw and get the family outside to help get the branch off the house and all the debris to the curb. Got a roof inspector coming this afternoon to asses any additional damage. We may clear this without too much expense.
Then apparently some time around 5:30 something else blew up and we had no power this morning until just after 8. What’s next?
After chainsawing I was able to get out on the moto for the afternoon. Basically rode up to Cumming, over to Canton, then down to Marietta where I met the OTP clan at Schoolhouse for beers and to pick up my 4 pack.
Hoping for a quiet week.
Yikes! Hope all goes well.
I need to plan my attack of Schoolhouse to get my July 4-pack, and to get some BOGO beer, of course. :D. I briefly considered paying $35 to join Schoolhouse’s homebrew club, but since I have never brewed beer I diverted that $35 elsewhere.
I saw some ugly weather on the radar and was hoping y’all came through it unscathed. Glad it was no worse.
What’s Travis doing for the summer? Being without power on a Monday morning reminds me of getting Finn ready for school without power a couple times, so I wondered what your kid is doing.
Travis got a job at the bowling alley for the summer. He is planning a Florida trip with his buddies and playing some soccer here and there. He is also sort of a gym rat (when he does come out of his room).
Man the kids today, oh wait a minute, that’s the same sorta thing we would have done in the 1980s. Haha
That’s a great job! Good for him.
Bob, it’s getting close to the time where you should change the first letter of your name to J. 😉 Hopefully your time in the barrel ends soon.
It goes against everything about which I should be thinking, but I really want to make a banana pudding…
FYI, Bob & Harriett’s Home Bar in Kirkwood has some absolutely righteous banana pudding.
Good to know! Thanks.
Waiting for today’s TdF stage to end before I run to Kroger to get a few essentials. I know, it’s not Friday, but I can’t wait until then to get some milk and eggs.
gotta get milk & eggs? is there a snowstorm coming?
I know Kevin didn’t mind working the Tour so close to home – in Spain (& even got Kaleb a little PT job for a day or 2)
They are coming in on totally different flights, but both land today in ATL within 15 minutes of each other.
I got bread too, just in case a freak ice storm hits Georgia… It’s French Toast time!!!
I wondered if he worked the TTT given that he’s Red Bull / Bora’s time trial man, and that he hives so close to where the tour went this year.
And as I always do, I spent more than I had intended to do. Oh well, at least my Upside is 6% today.
I look forward to the day when Del Toro and Poga?ar are on different teams…
My dark horse pick is Paul Sexias (sp). French, 19, rookie Tour. If he can stay out of trouble (already had one flat).
Keeping an eye on the weather as I have things drying outside. It would suck for a rainstorm to pop up, as it may later, and drench everything.
Living the Trad Man life… Hahaha
Because I forgot to bring my seeds when going to Kroger, I just drove over to UFO. Man alive it’s hot in the sun! My bean plants are being decimated by some ladybug like insect which are destroying the leaves. Clearly being one of fifteen raised beds among twenty or so rows of plants it’s impossible to stay ahead of the insects, especially when it appears that some of your neighbors have given up for the summer.
Saturday was my 25th Peachtree Road Race, with the special twist of it being my daughter’s fourth trip on foot from Lenox to Piedmont Park, and my son’s first.
Debbie and I have been out on the southside/westside Beltline two days in a row, just got back from 18 miles today. It took forever and a day for them to get it connected, but it sure is nice to have a long distance to ride now without sifting through the throngs. Tomorrow morning I’m riding with my son to see where the Westside trail ends. And maybe reccy getting from there to the Cobb County line where the Silver Comet Trail has been extended to.
I will be taking it again on Thursday when I ride to Trees Atlanta. I will attempt to use it for as long as it remains feasible.
To me, the westside trail doesn’t feel any different than it did before it was connected. To me, it feels like a bucolic path, as opposed to the tuberculer Eastside trail.
Because it took so so complete I doubt the south and west will get as congested as the east, at least in my riding lifetime. There are plenty of apartments, but not nearly as many destinations. Also, many of the alcoholic destinations couldn’t stay in business long enough to reap the Beltline promise.
Watching the forecast change as the rain fizzles out before reaching Wee Little Farm.
it poured for a minute or 2 just up north of me, near the Goodwill by the Big Chicken (I was driving) – but not a drop here at the house
