Unfortunately I think the time has come for me to start shopping for a new television. Time was I used to love to shop for new toys, now I don’t. Maybe if I didn’t spend a fortune on a new roof this year I’d feel differently. The reason I may be back in the TV market is that the tv on which I watch nearly all of my content is starting to display a darkened splotch across the middle of its screen. This is one of those issues that once you see, is nearly impossible to unsee. The good news, if there is good news, is that a TV comparable to the one that I currently own, only costs about the same amount of money as one night’s stay in Greenville. I don’t see myself buying a new TV prior to BRAG, so I will either have to “suffer”, or, read more?

Wordle: four, my starter was SPADE

  1. I made some sourdough discard, buttermilk English muffins yesterday. They are actually pretty good! Today I am treating myself to an Egg WeeMuffin sandwich for breakfast.

Wordle in 5 and almost 4.

Nod is back. Well, he’s out of his normal space and patrolling a fence line looking longingly at Minnie Pearl. Debbie got the gates closed so he couldn’t actually get to her- not that he can “do” anything except be annoying…

Rode 20 yesterday and felt like crap. Last night, a cold settled in and I was coughing most of the night, which might explain my lousy ride.

  3. It isn’t much warmer but dang how the humidity makes things uncomfortable.

  4. Jenka says:

Apparently we will have a flood warning tonight that will start in northern GA and move south to middle GA overnight. I wore my rain shoes to work today.

    Barb, how was the concert?

    • Yep. I mentioned it in a comment yesterday afternoon how odd I thought it was that Dekalb county sent out a flash flood warning more than 24 hours in advance.

      • Jenka says:

Emory’s emergency preparedness office is more skittish than my tiny dog. They sent an email out yesterday around noon with lots of ALL CAPS and highlighting and underlined text about possible floods. They do this for everything and as a result everyone ignores it.

  5. I have an Amazon delivery scheduled to arrive today, hopefully before the rain since both items will be ruined if they get wet. Amazon chose to ship with USPS, which is far from my first choice, so I hop the mail delivered is nice enough to follow my request and place the package by my kitchen door, where it is far less likely to get rained upon.

  6. Wee Little Farm’s lettuce has started to bolt. Tonight’s salad might be my last with WLF lettuce until November.

  7. Barb says:

the concert was a lot of fun, but I hate being so far from the stage at these big venues. The big screens are nice, but even my phone wasn’t very good at zooming in.
I like to see what’s going on, on the stage.
Vince Gill & Deacon Frey (son of deceased Glen Frey) did a good amount of the songs – but Joe Walsh at 78 can still REALLY PLAY GUITAR.

This was funny to me, Tedeschi Trucks played almost exactly 1 hour (7pm-8pm), then when the Eagles came on at 8:25, Don Henley said they would play their hits for 2 hours. They finished at the exact 2 hour mark at 10:25.

    • Jenka says:

Yeah, I always think if you can’t see what’s happening you might as well watch on TV in the comfort of your own home.

Tedeschi Trucks band is more of a draw for me than the Eagles. I looooove them and have seen them 4 or 5 times.

    • The minute I start watching the big screen I wonder why I paid the money to be at the event.

      • Barb says:

unless you are on the floor up close – you can’t help but watch the big screens unfortunately.

        And- 2 drinks & a water cost me $40+. what a deal.

        • Two of the reasons I stopped going to large-venue concerts years ago.

I prefer up-and-coming or sinking-into-oblivion bands who play at much smaller venues. Hell, I have even stopped going to the Tabernacle due to the ticket prices, Ticketmaster fees, drink prices, and parking cost.

          But then again, I’m cheap…

        • David says:

I paid $47 for a beer and a chicken finger basket at Ameris once. Never again. Fuckers.

  8. Barb says:

Oh yeah – as we were walking the MILE from our parking lot – we saw this long line of people – and thought – oh my, are people having to line up to get inside?
Then realized it was a line for the Roxy.
Some guy/band called Bilmuri. We had to look it up, they look “interesting”

  9. RIP, Ted Turner. IMO the decline of Atlanta began with his departure.

  10. Barb says:

wordle in 6 – not my day

  11. Glad my lifestyle is flexible. HVAC company called while I was out working in WLF and said they had a cancellation. The technician is “in my area” so I’ve changed my maintenance day to today!

  12. USPS just delivered my package, so kudos to them!

    • Well this is weird.

The book I purchase “Home-Made: Mastering the Art of German Bread Baking” seems to be some print-on-demand item, because on the last page it says:

      Made in the USA
      Columbia, SC
      04 May 2026

      That was two days go!

  13. David says:

The Eagles concert was amazing last night. It does help that I only paid $7 per seat, but still that’s a band that I never thought I’d see. And when Joe Walsh ripped into Life’s Been Good, well, that’s just not something that you can get the same feeling from on TV. The “big screens” werent all that big, in my experience. I endured Tedeschi Trucks, it felt like they were bellowing the entire time. Or maybe the Eagles just have a much better sound guy. They were a set of consummate professionals. Joe Walsh played Life’s Been Good, Funk 49, and Rocky Mountain Way. Don Henley did Boys of Summer. The rest of it was top tier Eagles song performances. Vince Gill was a remarkable stand-in, and Deacon Frey was hauntingly good on vocals and guitars.

The blot on the concert, if you will, for me was hearing from my kids 30 minutes before the end of the show that their grandmother (Erin’s mother, for those that know her) had died in a car accident. There’s no good place to make a phone call from that venue, so I handled the initial communication via text, then got on the phone once we had breathing room. We had a 2 1/2 mile walk to and from Truist Park. It wasn’t bad, and I’ll definitely take that over paying 43 fucking dollars for a parking spot that would have still had me in the middle of fucking traffic.

I had been on the fence about seeing the Eagles, but I’m beyond glad that I did. Seeing Joe Walsh rip through his best songs was an incredible experience. And for the record, I probably had about as good of a view from the top of the stadium as Barb had down low, which was surprising.

Next week’s cheap tickets are in Macon to see George Thorogood and the Marshall Tucker Band. I saw George Thorogood at the Fox in the 80s, and can’t wait to see him again.

    • Wow, somebody has a ticket printing machine!

Condolences to your family about Erin’s grandmother. Car accidents are never nice, especially if they end in death.

      • David says:

Thank you, Paulie. This one was particularly tragic.

Regarding concerts, they weren’t accessible to me for varying reasons over the course of my life. I do feel like I’ve pretty well made up for lost time at this point, but when a chance to see someone for $7/seat arises via http://www.vettix.org, it’s hard to say no, even when it entails a trip to Macon.

    • Barb says:

OMG – Allan LOVED George Thorogood. That will be a fun show – when is it?
(I know, I can look it up)

That is horrible news about Erin’s mom, how awful for everyone.

The 1 mile walk back to the car with the TONS of people going that way, it was an experience, I hate crowds like that.

    • Jenka says:

I am so sorry to hear about your mother in law, I know you were close to her despite the divorce. So sorry for Erin and the kids.

In 2015 we were at Park Bar just about to go to Phillips Arena for a Billy Joel concert when I got a call that a dear friend had died. She had been in ICU on life support for a month so it wasn’t a surprise. I cried through the whole concert.

  14. Bob says:

All this money you guys spend on concerts makes me happy that I can ride my onewheel up to Ameris with a cooler of beer and a chair and take in some pretty good shows for free 🙂

Speaking of TVs our $140 80 inch TV does have a dark spot but I don’t even notice it any more. Still the bargain of the year for me.

I’m getting supplies for a front porch rebuild delivered and Home depot said they will be here between 6AM and 8PM WTF kind of window is that? Hell, I would be happy with a 4 hour window at this point. I would go and pick it up but some of the boards I ordered are 20 feet long to avoid extra waste.

    Condolences to your family David

    • David says:

Thank you, Bob! Good luck with your porch! Sounds like you’re rebuilding your house one room at at time. 😉

    • Barb says:

I have watched a concert or 2 from that hill at Ameris.
That’s a great free way to see a show – especially once it is dark
