It’s May Day, so I will do my traditional listening to Jonathan Colton’s “First of May”. If you partake, recall that it is far from “safe for work”.
Instead of walking up to East Atlanta Village for the weekly farmers market I stayed at home and cooked dinner. I had some cheesy grits, so I made some gochujang fried chicken thighs in the air fryer. The marinade in which I marinated the chicken turned out to be very salty (from the soy sauce, I presume) so the blandness of the grits was a welcome companion.
A busy weekend is ahead for me. Today im driving to Marietta to buy alcohol and exchange that for my BRAG-ready bicycle. I’m volunteering with Concrete Jungle tomorrow, and then going to a mushroom market at Wild Heaven Brewery west side on Sunday.
Wordle: four, my starter was SOUPY
I’m still living on Tulsa time at the moment because Delta canceled my flight last night and relegated me into steerage. Flight credit for first class upgrade has been processed and I have a form to fill out for my hotel bill. Just to add salt to the wound.
Apart from this flight glitch, Tulsa has been fun. It’s a kitschy place, but I very much enjoyed my afternoon of hiking, and my presentations yesterday seemed to be well received.
TSA was goofy this morning. Touchless ID let me skip ahead of a couple of people, and a TSA guy was setting the plastic bins out for everyone’s bag. It felt like being in Mayberry.
Cancelled flight? Due to weather or disinterest in flying?
Safe travels.
Politics. Trump forced the airlines to cancel 10% of all flights as part of his bare-knuckles “my way or the highway” approach to funding DHS. But then suddenly the House finally passed the Senate bill from 80 days ago, so the goddamn air traffic controllers can finally start getting paid again.
It’s fitting that I’m leaving Tulsa on a cattle car. I’ve never seen such a tiny aisle. I’m on the plane though, so that’s a step.
Ah, my avoidance of the news strikes again!
I missed the cancelling 10% of the flights, or I heard about it & then forgot about it.
Glad you at least for a flight out – what percentage of charge was left on your car when you dropped it off?
I’m on the ATL tarmac, so my Tulsa travails are over. Well, almost over, another plane is blocking the gate.
The car was at 78% when I dropped it off. Tulsa isn’t very big, there wasn’t very far to go. Budget tried to pull a fast one though by tacking on a $75 gas fill up on an electric car. The guy who checked me in caught it and removed it. It was very nice to not have to worry about gas stations at all in Tulsa.
Separately, Tulsa spelled backwards would make for a good Hash name. I ran across that in a non-Hash context when reading a Reddit thread about the song Tulsa Time, which has been a persistent earworm the last couple of days.
I couldn’t get back to sleep after Allan got up for work at 0530 – I hate when that happens, I”m not an early morning person.
We are heading up to Hiawassee tomorrow for an overnight, a friend rented a mountain cabin for a couple weeks to get away. Looks like it’s going to be cool & very possibly rainy -but we will figure out how to have a good time.
May call Brint if we get out & about. Maybe go to Hiawassee Brewing?
I know I’m biased, but just being at a mountain cabin even if it’s raining is fun. Especially if it’s cool enough to have a fire. You will have a great time!
Laurie wants to learn how to play Mexican Train dominoes. So, we will be just fine.
Bring wine, you will be fine.
Sand Bar!!!
there – or Hiawassee Brewery – we will see……..
need to ask Brint which has better food.
0530? Why so late? ๐
wordle in 4 – should have been 2, or 3. ๐
Wordle in 3!
Slept as well as I could last night. No pillow to speak of, so when I finally settled on somethig that worked, i was out. Its a short walk to the lodge using the lake loop trail- it you go in the right direction. I did not and I was still wearing my heavy riding pants, so that added to the no fun.
Dinner at the bar was excellent. Fish and chips and I couldn’t finish it
Onward to, wait for it, Hiawassee! Expect lots of BMWs Barb.

Steve- go to Walmart or Dollar General & buy a $5 pillow – leave it behind. Its many trips the best money I can spend.
Or, a Loveโs Truck Stop. I bought a pillow at one in 2016 on my first RAGBRAI trip.
Hmmm, Wally world might be an easy option. At the rally sight looking for a good spot for my tent.
Oh lordy, it was nice using tap to pay for MARTA just now. The turnstile wouldn’t read my phone (no surprise there, cuz it’s MARTA!) but it read my physical credit card without issue.
Marta has been free for the past 4 or 5 times I’ve taken in, turnstiles wide open. I assume because of all the construction.
the new tap system started yesterday or today. No more free MARTA
It was nice while it lasted!
Not free at the Airport. Free at King Memorial though.
King is where I get on and off when I go to Hawks games, and it has been free for the past month at least.
Based on the look of the current construction, I think you’ll be able to get a few more free rides in.
Praying for rain tomorrow morning so Finn’s baseball game is cancelled. I know that’s terrible, but it’s at 9:00 am in Chastain. This has been a long week and all I want to do is read my book and snuggle with my puppy dog. Sunday I am either going to roast a chicken or slow roast a pork loin.
You are terrible! ๐
I donโt want it to rain since my volunteering tomorrow is outdoors (faux farming) and Iโm not sure they will cancel.
I bought a corned beef on sale the other day. Today or tomorrow I will buy cabbage for corned beef and cabbage on Sunday.
Ooooooh. That sounds gooooooood.
Blackberries are already starting to ripen. Yum!
I’ll be right over!
