I’m going to have to budget a lot more money for my natural gas bill next month. January’s bitter cold has led to a lot of furnace usage, even with my attempts to be as miserly as Mr Scrooge.

I never really got going yesterday. With the exception of the short time I spent outdoors picking up storm flotsam and jetsam (I know I’ve misused this term just as I misused “stymied” a few months ago), I remained in my pajamas. The queasiness I felt after lunch ended my desire to ride the trainer for a third consecutive day, and the lack of sleep I had due to numerous reasons on Monday night caused me to take two involuntary naps during the day.

Wordle: four, my starter was SABLE

  1. My time picking up sweet gum balls yesterday revealed something I knew deep down, Wee Little Farm hasn’t fared well with this brutally cold weather. To be fair, I didn’t get out to cover any of the crops this year, letting them fend for themselves to see what would happen. Death is what is happening, more to come this weekend I’m sure.

    Wordle in 5.

Spent the afternoon at the USS Midway. Lots of walking and steep stairs. Neat to have former sailors who served on her as docents. Took the “Trolley” there and back. Light rail, no faregates, basically honor system. Right across from the hotel.

Dinner was overpriced BBQ near the hotel. Was going to Mexican in old town, but the convenience lured us.

Zoo today, once we wake up.

Good times at Schoolhouse & Bob joining us for a very basic dinner of brats & tots.

Allan & I got our $20 gift cards – they are real physical cards.
Bartender told us it was a more popular promotion than they planned – they should have made it 8 or even 10 visits.

Planet Bombay used to be the best Indian food in town. Even our friend Steve from the UK said so. Unfortunately they changed owners during the pandemic and subsequently shit the bed. We haven’t been to Desi Spice in the Midtown Promenade in at least a decade, so we gave it a shot last night. It was very good! All the food was excellent. The only drawbacks were that the tables are so close together you’re practically dining at a communal table. Also, we ordered our entrees and they forgot to put the order in so we waited like 45-50 minutes. We will definitely go back, though.

  5. Standard dinner with Betsy tonight. Going to force myself onto the trainer at some point this afternoon. Can’t wait until the weather is suitable (by my metrics) to start day tripping and riding outdoors again. I intend to be trained for Spring Tune Up, and in excellent, okay very good, cycling shape for BRAG.

  6. Barb, to answer the plunger question: rarely. I have had to do it once or twice in my 27 years in the ITP Estate. This time was the most stubborn, and the first time the plunger left rubber marks on the porcelain.

Just in case anyone is wondering, SD zoo is SO worth it!
