Peacock is teetering on driving me to canceling my subscription. Last week before it showed me the Premier League soccer game it flashed up a 15-second advertisement. It did the same thing for my attempt to watch the Tour Down Under on Friday. I pay $170/year for “ad free programming” as a Peacock Premium Plus subscriber, with the acknowledgment that ads during sporting events will occur (even though they have the technology to prevent them). Peacock has boasted about their new ad insertion, clearly not giving a shit about its paying customers.
Initially I was only going to eat leftovers yesterday, but I wanted to heat the house by using the oven so I made “Cheesy Italian Noodle Bake” from “Ramen Noodle Recipes” for dinner last night. It was good, but would have been better with higher-quality ingredients than I used. It’s also another recipe that I will cut in half if I make it again in the future, because I really didn’t need a 9″x13″ casserole dish’s worth.
Wordle: four, my starter was MARSH
First! (Been a while) Wordle in 4.
Already at the gate for an 8:20 departure. Debbie still hasnt re-upped her Pre Check, so we went through security with the commoners.
A quiet day with a delicious chicken dish with yogurt, mushrooms and spinach. The house is clean for our farm sitter, and us when we return.
In feeding everyone this morning, we found Nod has returned. Probably cold and wanted to be close to Minnie Pearl.
More later.

Safe travels and have a wonderful trip.
High of 71 degrees in San Diego today- have FUN!
What a non-event that weather “catastrophe” was. We went out for sushi as usual, the place was packed. I assume everyone wanted to go out after being stuck at home for two days. Then we watched three episodes (they’re like 25 minutes each) of Nobody Wants This.
I’ll take non-event every time.
Now, I’d like to temperatures to stop getting so goddamn low that my heating kicks on constantly. Related: the ITP Estate still has shitty single-pane windows, air leaks everywhere, and is too large for one person.
Yeah, I’ll take a non-event if I get a WFH day out of it, absolutely. Amazingly, we never lost power.
I’ve not wanted to go outside since Saturday, and will probably not accomplish this today either. I hate bitter cold weather.
We only just left, after having to de-ice??? I’ll have to figure that one out.
Last night I saw a news story about a fire in midtown. 11th and Crescent (back of the Fed). Waiting to hear any good stories. I can only imagine the officer at that gate post getting quite a shock when that transformer blew up!
Have you never had to wait for them to de-ice the plane? Happens all the time in the north. It’s unnerving because you never know how good a job they are going to do.
Never. But I don’t understand de-icing with no precip on the ground or in the air.
probably planning for maybe some precipitation during the flight? Or – its cold enough, maybe there was some over night moisture they needed to get rid of.
I’ve been in plenty of planes being de-iced.
Most of my work travel was to the south- Miami and New Orleans (not counting Newark) and bike race travel isn’t normally in winter.
our friend Luis & Patrick lost power last night from that midtown thing – they live near Piedmont Park. I wonder how long it took to get it back
From the google: De-icing a plane when no precipitation is falling (clear air) is often done to remove hoarfrost, frozen fuel (cold-soaked wings), or remnants of ice from a previous flight. While snow is obvious, frost is equally dangerous because even a tiny amount of roughness (like coarse sandpaper) on a wing can reduce lift by 30% and increase drag by 40%.
look at you – learning from the google
Cold wings and warm fuel from underground can cause frosting on the surface.
I used to train people how to de-ice airplanes, you are correct in your concern with expertise 🙂 De-icing in the south is rare so not much experience, de-icing in the north is another story, they know what they are doing.
^THIS!
There seemed to be a fair number of people in cars observing, so I think they shared your concerns.
we didn’t do much at all yesterday. Mondays are always way too busy workwise.
Been watching some show I recorded called The Hunting Party – its a little out there, but its ok. I can only watch 2 episodes at a time though.
tonight we are having brats that I pulled from the freezer – & the ones I pulled are jalapeño cheddar. not my favorite- but it will be ok
Can I come over? I love jalapeno cheddar brats!!
we have 4……… sure
Cabinets are in and were measured today for countertops. Now they are working on the smaller stuff, doors drawers crown molding etc.
We have been doing really well with the camp kitchen setup, have not had to go out for meals yet. I still can’t wait until it is complete.
Nice. Once it’s done you can go out for a meal to celebrate! Lol
Just spent an impromptu half hour picking up sweet gum ball from Wee Little Farm, and sticks from the front yard. Somehow, I started sweating…
I still intend to jump on the trainer at some point today. I ate lunch and was feeling a little “off” afterwards. This is the second time this dish made me feel this way, so the remainder of the leftovers went into the garbage can. With my compost and ability to eat the same food often, I have a grey track record for reducing food waste. I decided to trash, instead of compost, this food since it contained a lot of meat.
Schoolhouse – 5-5:30 – happy hour – if anyone is bored.
IT will be punch #6 – we will make it – we will get the $20 gift card!
Congrats! I may make it up there later this week to score one more $3 first beer. Officially I will have made three January visits, but in reality I made four but failed to get a punch the first time.
I’ll be there! Come on up Paulie!
If I were clean and there was a magical way to avoid traffic…
Well that was “fun”, just used a plunger to unclog my toilet. Only negative is that the rubber left some black marks inside the bowl.
