Happy New Year!

Being old and solitary, I just about forgot that last night was a time for celebration. Of course I was at home alone, and in bed before midnight.

I miss Cheddarhead…

I have had a rough few years, mentally, physically, and fiscally. The latter will continue to occur until I either find a source of decent income, or make a dramatic lifestyle change.

That being said, what has become apparent is that I have an amazing group of friends, who humble me constantly with their generosity and good will.

I am selecting a theme for this year, and it is “Resurrection”.
No, I’m not Jesus.
No, I’m not returning to hashing.

Here’s to all of you! May 2026 be healthy and happy.

Cheers,
Paulie

  1. Oh boy, for some reason I couldn’t publish the blog from my phone this morning. WordPress not starting the year off on a good foot.

  2. BRAG is LaFayette to Columbus! Time to start contemplating whether or not to sign up for a shuttle from Columbus to Lafayette.

Wordle in 4, very early this year!

We watched Miami give it to OSU and it was a pleasure. Not that I’m a Miami fan, but I’ve known a couple annoying OSU fans.

Other than that, there was a quick trip to the local distributor of finely aged beverages and a few chores completed.

There was a bit of noise from the locals at midnight, but it was over quickly. Definitely 2 waves- the 10PM “you kids need to go to bed” wave, and the “It’s 2026, let’s blow $hit up” wave.

Off to a 10AM bike ride in Gay.

  4. Soon to walk to Kroger to get mushrooms for tonight’s hot and sour soup. Unfortunately, the ones I intended to use (and use for last night’s pizza as well) had gone slimy in the refrigerator.

Happy new year, Paulie and everyone! 2026 is going to be great!

I had such a wonderful and restful time in Mexico. The first day we slept until early afternoon and then went and had a leisurely lunch and did some shopping. The next three days we were on a Bali bed, the first day overlooking the pool and the next two days looking at the ocean. The price of the Bali bed includes a bottle of champagne, which was awesome. I usually cracked that baby around mid-afternoon. Otherwise I lounged, read, and stared at the ocean (and people-watched, obviously). The only downside was that it was too cold to swim. We got home Tuesday fairly late, slept one night at home, and turned around and came up to the cabin yesterday. Last night I was in bed by 11.

We watched that Falcons game on Monday, what a ride! Steve, we also watched Miami hand it to OSU and I was rooting for OSU.

Paulie, it will interest you that I have officially swapped out the cabin devices to new iPads- a big one for watching sports (the big ones only come in Pro) and a regular size Air for me. That means I had to bring up all new cables yesterday because the old devices were Lightning. In one fell swoop we went from predominantly Lightning (only Kevin’s phone was C) to almost completely C (my phone is still Lightning). What does one do with ancient USB-Old to Lightning cables anymore? Hah!

  6. Back from my walk, and by the time I got home I was sweating!

  7. I did such a good job of keeping my head in the ground last year that I just found out that Loretta Swit died — on May 30th!

Back from the bike ride, which mostly kicked my a$$. This wasn’t even a hammerhead ride, but no one seemed to be carrying any extra weight. That’s one of my new years goal, to lighten my load by about 20 and 30 if I press.

    • Steve, it’s my goal as well. Ideally ten would be gone by Spring Tune Up, and ten more by BRAG. I will have to later my diet, be I I actually gained weight in December!
