Spent more time in WLF Saturday morning. I transplanted my leek starts, a fig tree, and a paw paw tree. I also chopped the field peas which I was growing as ground cover. In one bed of field peas I also found a rather nice hole which probably housed the critter which was eating the pea plants. Given that it appears rain has become as rare as common sense in Washington DC, I’m glad that I have only a few things in the garden this winter.

It was a bad weekend for my fermentation experiments. I had to discard my Jerusalem artichoke fermentation experiment. After a week in the basement the jar appeared cloudy and I will never be confident enough to eat what is in the jar. Pity that my large crop of Jerusalem artichokes all went to waste. Almost conversely, I had to discard the levain (think “sourdough starter”) that I had been trying to bring to life for five days because it was showing no signs of life, perhaps because my kitchen was too cold this week to promote fermentation. With no Jerusalem artichokes in stock I’m SOL with that experiment, and I will have to wait until I have eight consecutive days at home in order to start another levain.

  1. I’m being considerate to my neighbors by waiting until 10am before I start using a tool which will make some noise. I’m going to crunch branches into wood chip today.

Typing on my phone as my iPad cant find your website.

A fun weekend. Got up early Saturday and drove to Barnesville to a grand-neices new coffee shop. Pretty good and busy. Then on to HighFalls SP for a hike. Came home to watch Alabama lose and GT win!

Sunday was chores and 18 miles of gravel ride.

Very productive weekend. On Saturday we went to a car dealership that is way out in BFE. The map said Duluth but it was, like, the OTHER side of Duluth. Anyway, we purchased a Mercedes E450 for Kevin with a very pretty blue metallic exterior. He’s very happy with it, and yesterday he took himself out to do errands! He went to Lowe’s by himself and came back with lightbulbs! Hallelujah.

On the way out to the dealership on Saturday we stopped into Smiley’s Burger Club and got their smash burger. Ho-ly crap, that thing is good. It has those delicious crusty edges. It’s a little out of my way but I will be returning.

Yesterday I didn’t have to sit and watch the Pats (although we did watch the Giants lose) (and the Falcons lose) so I made pigs in blankets, a cheesy ground beef and rice casserole, spicy nachos (I used the rest of the taco ground beef in the casserole), and a wicked soup with ham and potatoes in a creamy miso broth.

    busy enough weekend –
Friday – caught up on Survivor with Sal – none of the contestants really thrill me, so another season of who cares who wins.

Saturday morning went for a walk with JoAnna, then trying to decided if we wanted breakfast or lunch, decided on the IHOP that was nearby. I haven’t been to an IHOP in forever. Waitress was very sweet, and food was fine.
Ran some errands, & then decided to go to Schoolhouse for a beer (ended up being 2 beers) as it was lovely weather to sit outside.

Sunday was the Wheelhopper/Black Sheep Hashers not Trashers trail at Southside park. It is hard to collect trash on a bike, so after Allan & I did trail, we went back out & collected some trash we had seen while riding. There were plenty of full trash bags at the end, so it seemed everyone did a good job. It was another lovely day to be outside.

The weather was truly amazing all weekend!

      I don’t think I’ve been to an IHOP in 15 years. That’s a guess.

they have a small 55+ section of the menu, and we were joking about being old. & since they have both breakfast & lunch, and it was very convenient to where we were, we thought – why not.

a shuttered Hardee’s down on Delk Rd was reopened as a IHOP a while back, so its a smaller version, but there seems to be cars there a lot, so the chain must be doing ok.

        • Steve says:

Convert a Hardee’s to an IHOP? Radicals..

well, it was an empty building.

And – other fast food news – the Arby’s on Cobb Pkwy closed a week or so ago – all the signage is gone. I wonder why…….. (sometimes a roast beef sandwich was a tasty idea)

Back from vacation and digging through my inbox, I stayed home most of last week and it was awesome. Lots of chillin, some moto riding, some bike riding, good times.
This past weekend we went to Damascus VA for the Seven Trails Ultra Festival where Laura completed a 50+ mile run. She started running at 6 AM and kept going until 6:30 PM, very proud of that accomplishment.
While she was running I rode my onewheel around harassing runners and drinking beer around town. Fun was had by all (except for the 5 hour drive which was a grind).

So the website issue was .com vs .net and not getting forwarded.

Debbie and I selected a location for the run in shed and construction will begin soon. As soon as I order some lumber.

Three riders embarked on Silver Comet rides of three lengths yesterday: My angsty teenager burned off some angst by riding Florence Road/Rockmart (50~) miles. I rode Rambo/Rockmart (30 miles). My brother rode 26 miles Rambo?Rockmart?McPherson Church Trailhead. He was sucking wind at the Coots Beach convenience store stop on the way back, so I abbreviated his ride to ensure that I could get back in time for the Who’s Live is it Anyway show last night (a touring version of Who’s Line is it Anyway”. If you don’t miss the Mount Olivet Loop turn, getting from Rambo to McPherson Church is pretty easy. If you miss the turn, you start wondering where the hell your GPS is taking you.

Separately, I can’t remember if I reported this previously here, but Rails in Rockmart is permanently closed. It never was busy any time I visited there. Soli’s sandwich shop around the corner made us a nice lunch though. It was definitely a perfect day to ride the Comet.

There was a time in my life when I was going through my first big breakup and moved into my first real apartment by myself when Whose Line is it Anyway? gave me enough laughs to get me through. Love that show!

road bike ride sounds good – it was the perfect day for a ride
