The frustrating part of last weekend arrived in email on Friday.
Because they are mandating that I put a new roof on the ITP Estate, and, I must cut back any branches hanging over the house (which would result in taking off half of the limbs on a huge tree), I am going to attempt to break up with my insurance company. In the 44 years that I’ve been their customer I’ve filed one auto claim, to repair the Jackmobile after the event which gave it its nickname, and none against my homeowners insurance.
If I can’t find a new company to provide insurance, I will start contemplating my next (literal) move.
Wordle: four, my starter was CLAIM. Disappointed as another word from my stater list has been used, and I didn’t select it as my starter.
Major bread failure today as my loaf stuck to the bottom of the pot in which I bake it, and was destroyed as I tried to extract it from the pot. DANGEN!

Haha. Destroyed, but I admit to have eaten some warm because I didn’t need to let it cool. Still frustrating, a lot of work for little end result.
Even though the weather is less than ideal, I’m forcing myself to move about. Since the ground is moist, I went outside and pulled some pernicious weeds that we’re starting to take over a part of WLF.
how old is your roof? How did the insurance company know to tell you that you should replace it? Are “they” saying you need to trim the tree too?

I don’t have one, but I’ve been told that insurance brokers that shop rates for you are there way to go. (we have USAA, and I know it costs more, but I don’t want to bother changing to someone else)
The roof is about 23 years old. I had it replaced in 2002/2003. Yes, they say I must remove the branches.
They have warned me that if I don’t provide proof that these items have been performed by March 30 2026, my policy will not auto-renew.
They also want to know how old my HVAC and electrical systems are. And in case it’s not obvious, I think that are overstepping their boundaries.
I was not at home when the assessment was made, so I do not know how it was performed.

Part of the fence at the barn has been repaired. My new, Chinese knockoff framing nailer worked well. I only had to replace one board that had twists in all 3 dimensions. The other part of the fence that needs replacement will need some engineering, as it’s also acting as a dam.
I think we’re off later to the new Trader Joe’s in PTC. This is opening week.

I have not been to a Trader Joe’s in forever………. it just isn’t convenient, and I don’t think it’s any better than any other store.
If it was convenient, maybe I’d think differently.
This won’t be in our regular rotation, as it’s also not convenient. I think we’re off later need to make a Costco run and it’s just a mile further. I also have an Amazon item to return at the Staples nearby.
The TJ in midtown is also inconvenient for me, so I never shop there unless I need something that is only sold there.
It’s not better for anything except snacks and the frozen prepared foods section. 10 years ago it was hands down way better in those two areas, but since then regular grocery stores have upped their snack and frozen meals game.

Ended up going to dinner with Kevin last night – it was his birthday on Monday.
Bill got thru his open heart surgery, Jean is playing nursemaid.

Rain has returned, so I have returned indoors. Salvaged some bread for lunch with sliced turkey and tomato. Ate some of the incredibly hard bottom, note to self: this is a bad idea, don’t do it again in the future.
I managed to pull a lot of weeds, probably spreading three hundred seeds in the process, and planting a fig tree into the ground I cleared. Also, harvested some bell and jalapeño peppers.
How ironic, we were supposed to be getting a new roof TODAY. Kevin is in Denver so I arranged to work from home, then it rained. Anyway, new roof is re-scheduled for next week and I’m in the office.
I gloriously did nothing last night but be alone in the house with no noise.

Rosie’s Roofing. They replaced the next door neighbor’s roof last month and the neighbor was very happy with their work.
That’s what I would have guessed.
In addition to new shingles, the ITP Estate also has some rotten soffit wood which needs to be replaced, and, the soffit and carport need to be painted. It’s going to be $$$. 🙁

I think the tree which needs trimming would drive me crazy if I had a metal roof because it drops acorns.
SAME. The acorns are like machine gun fire on the roof this time of year.
One of the happy byproducts to getting a new roof is that we also get new gutters. The existing gutters are all janky and in some places they spew water like a waterfall.
Funny, when I had them come out to give me an estimate for some other work, they told me they’d have to also replace my gutters. I think my gutters are fine, so I passed on hiring them.
Allan says he can do some tree trimming, depending on how treacherous it is. He just sharpened all of his chain saw blades & whatever other implements he owns.
I appreciate it, but this would not be a job for amateurs. The tree is huge, the limbs are very high up.
While we passed the TJ 3 times, we decided to wait a couple weeks until the smoke clears. Jenka, thanks for the recommendations. When I was packing for the campground, I almost pulled the trigger on some Publix meals until I realized they required a REAL oven (or toaster oven) neither of which live in the LQ.
Don’t they now make a microwave/air fryer device? A little one might fit.
Yes, I think they do make a microwave/air fryer combo. What do you currently have in the LQ to heat food up with?
