Unfortunately my AC didn’t come on yesterday afternoon, so when I returned home from Betsy’s it was 78°F indoors with no way to cool it down. My AC unit is also supposed to reduce humidity, and that function didn’t seem to be working either. And with an early Fall warm, humid night, sleep was a little difficult, and only made possible by a ceiling fan.

A technician is coming out this morning, hopefully this won’t cost me much more than the $89 service call.

Wordle: five, my starter was SCREW

  1. More curiosity: as I sit here in an uncomfortable house I’m listening to podcasts. A commercial broke in with “Hey Chicago!…” so apparently “localized ads” aren’t always accurate? I looked into the phone number used by my cellular modem, and it appears to be in the 404 area code, so I continue to be baffled.

Wordle in 3 and only had the vowel in the right place in 2.

Chores after work yesterday, as the backyard needed mowing and weed whacking. A quick run to the hardware store left me $45 lighter for 9 gallons on LP. Those tanks will stay closed until I can find my leak tester and see it the valves are shot.

Debbie made a tasty pork lion for dinner last night. Tonight we start the birthday celebration(s) with sushi!

Today was my last WFH day!

    • I have some ancient LP tanks that I intend to trade in, even though I understand that you only get 15 pounds ina 20 pound tank when you do the swap. These tanks, especially one that I’ve had for twenty years, have lived their life so I want to see if I can update and then get those tanks filled at Tractor Supply, etc in the future.

      • Bob Knoll says:

Tanks are only good for 10-12 years, there is a date stamp on the collar. Once you are past that date places like Ace or Tractor Supply wont fill them. I was once turned away at Ace so went to a propane tank exchange place and got a newer one. I’m sure my karma suffered for that move but now I have a new tank 🙂

        • That’s exactly what I intend to do. I looked for the date stamp last week, but really couldn’t find one. Since I know one tank is really old, I will stick it to the companies that are sticking it to us…

    • Bob Knoll says:

Congrats Steve! I can’t wait until I can walk away from work, still have a ways to go though.
For your propane issue, check the connection to the tank. On my camper I had the hose that connects to the tank go bad and start leaking. You definitely want to find that leak before you camp again, it is pretty dangerous.

I hope you wore your weed whacking boots!

  3. Steve says:

Oh, and a quarter inch of rain overnight!

  4. Not sure why I showered this morning, I’m now sweating profusely. 🙁

  5. It appears that Kroger is sending me a credit card offer in the mail today. I thought this practice would come to an end when I froze my credit, but apparently not? I wonder if my credit is still frozen…

  6. Waiting for technician, appointment windows is 8-12. I’m bracing for a $1000 repair, because, technology.

I really need to learn how to spend less money so that unexpected expenses such as these are less impactful.

  7. Jenka says:

OMG, my passport arrived yesterday! I have a valid passport again! I was just waiting for that, now on to tackle TSA…

  8. Technician is on the way.
Magazine publisher told me to expect a replacement magazine.

Hopefully these are harbingers for a good day.

AC not working is no fun – hopefully its just a little not expensive issue.

Trying to figure out if the Sleep number bed fiasco is over – we have the new air chamber (thanks to the people at the store), My $350 referral reward is back in the account. They just called & said they aren’t sure if the new air chamber is still being sent, but the order was cancelled. Sooooo – if they show up, we will take back to the store to replace the ones they gave us.

And Bob – I got the text from Laura, so we will be ordering one of these days soon.

Paullie, I’m interested in details of the resolution of your HVAC issue.

  11. Turns out the blower motor has died. Unit under warranty, but I will have to pay for labor. Don’t know exactly when new blower motor will be installed, need to talk to company to schedule.

I might have to seek out a shopping mall (do they still exist?), or air conditioned bar (I know those exist) in which to while away my day.

    • Barb says:

I love the warranty doesn’t cover labor – that’s such crap.
But – hopefully it is in stock somewhere nearby ^ can get done asap.
The same tech that came out can’t do the install?

      • I agree with you about the warranty, but I have now power in this relationship. There might be slight consolation if they refund today’s service call cost by hiring them to do the work.

I think the guy who came out today may come back when the install is performed. I think I have to schedule with the main office though.

  12. Just tasted yesterday’s bread. As I guessed, it’s very tasty but not tall enough to do much more with than spread butter/jam on and enjoy.

    • Steve says:

… and the problem there is??

Doesn’t include labor? Hmmm… I could see where it might not include all the labor, but I’d think a reasonable service warranty would include at least an hour per occurrence. Sneaky.
