I went to Athens Friday to go to the 40 Watt Club to see The Baseball Project perform. Not familiar? Not surprised. It’s a bunch of musicians from other bands, most notably Peter Buck and Mike Mills from REM, who play songs about baseball. The lead singer was wearing a Montgomery Biscuits hat. Dangen! I’ve still never seen one of their games and this was the last week of their season…

The show was great, and I had a good chuckle when Mike Mills said “It’s great to see your faces, but not your fucking cellphones. You must have enough pictures of us by now, so why don’t you all put the cellphones away for the remainder of the show.” Brilliant!

Wordle in 4 and coulda been 3!

Saturday, took myself to breakfast at my favorite hole in the wall in Haralson and then for a little ride on the new scooter. Then there was much college football. Alabama made fondu of the cheeseheads (sorry Stacy) and Georgia almost lost to Tennessee. The jackets are 3-0!!

Sunday I finally got on my bike for 20 and felt like crap! Didn’t drink nearly enough water (like a dumbass) then went to finish a section of road frontage. WAS drinking water for that, but still had to take a lot of breaks. Ugh.

Starting the office cleanout. 15 days left.

  2. Well, I had three Georgia candy roaster squash in WLF. When I arrived home on Saturday I saw that some critter has gnawed into one, so I harvested the other ripe one on that plant. This morning I saw that a caterpillar was able to bore into the unripe one that was growing on another plant. So, I can eat one of the three that grew this year — great average for baseball, shitty for farming.

Very quiet weekend. On Friday we saw Jim Gaffigan at Symphony Hall, dinner at Colony Square beforehand. Jim was hilarious, of course, but the best part is he was done by 8:30. Apparently he also wants to go to bed, LOL!

Saturday we went to General Muir for late lunch but otherwise I did not leave the house the entire two days. Yesterday I had planned to make a beef stew in the crockpot, but I still have so many potatoes that are going bad I pivoted to shepherd’s pie. I just used the chunks of stew beef as the base and chopped up the veggies for the middle layer. It worked great and I got rid of a bunch of potatoes!

    • He’s already spent a lot of time in bed, I think he has at least five children!

    • Barb says:

did you bump into David & Debbie there?

      • David says:

Nope! 🙂 Also, Jim had a 9:00 PM show that night, so that’s why we got the bum’s rush.

        • Jenka says:

I didn’t even know you were there!

I was happy to be out at 8:30 no matter what the reason.

I didn’t know y’all were either, I should have based upon being at a past comedy show with you guys. Taylor Tomlinson is the next comedienne on my calendar in November.

After the show we had a lovely dinner at Eleventh Street Pub with some super-expensive (but worthwhile) tequila shots, a tasty burger, and mac-and-cheese so good it made my eyes roll up in my head. We then strolled to Cafe Intermezzo, and then sat on a swin by the lake in Piedmont Park. It was a lovely evening!

We are going to Jimmy Carr next week. I think that is the last comedian on our docket.

          • Jimmy Carr should be a good show. Much like Sarah Millican, I’m surprised people in the US know these British comedians.

I’m familiar with some British comedians through the British TV I’ve been watching on YouTube and BritBox since 2020.

  4. I recommend that you not challenge Betsy to a Wordle competition for a while, she’s on a roll. On Saturday I scored a three, on Sunday I scored a deuce. She matched both of those, and got another deuce today.

  5. I was going to watch the ending of the Vuelta yesterday, but by the time I tuned in the protesters had already disrupted the final stage. Who won? I have no idea. I realize that there are many serious problems in the world, but ruining a sporting event because one team has the name of a country you detest, sucks. My two cents.

    • Steve says:

Not sure what the point of the protest was, except to get the idea out there. Remids me to pull the plug on Peacock. I’ll watch the replay of the Montreal race on Max and then pull its’ plug.

    weekend was busy –
Saturday went to meet a friend for a hike at Kennesaw Mtn (Cheatham Hill/Illinois Monument parking lot) and discovered that lot has a gate that doesn’t open until 0800am. Had no idea – and since we were there about 0755 – we went & found a different lot.
Then after – went & had breakfast biscuits at the Come & Get It, & we ran some errands together. She had determined that her system doesn’t like alcohol – so we went to Total Wine to check out their selections of THC drinks. (they have a massive selection).
Met up later to watch the GA/TN game at Brass Tap (they have the Senorita brand THC drinks)

Sunday – we rode the road bikes – 27 miles around Roswell.
Then went to JimmyFest at Gate City brewery – they had a bunch of TropRock artists playing some Buffett, & some other tunes. It was fun.

My national engineer sent me a retirement gift- coffee mug- “not my problem any more”. engraved whisky glass “the legend has retired” and a $100 gift card to an inline beer store! And a nice card full of compliments. I’m touched.
