I probably watch more Major League Soccer games on tv than most people. What I have noticed often this year are the sparse crowds, and it’s not just at Atlanta United games. I predict that in five years there will be at least 25% fewer teams, and the possibility that the league will fold in the next ten years.

  1. ITP-Reader Sal just alerted me that the NYT has put their Mini Crossword behind their paywall. Oh well, one less thing requiring my attention in the morning.

    Wordle in 2.

    Wordle in 4.

I took the new scoot out and got rid of the shiny on the new tires. Much improved on gravel and dirt and still quiet on pavement. I call that a win-win. I’d still like to lower it more- I’m not short, but my feet only just touch the ground. I watched a video of a woman about Sal’s size on a bike like mine. She can’t even straddle it and get it off the kickstand- her solution is what’s called a “cowboy start”- get the bike off the kickstand, start the bike, left foot on left peg, ride off and swing your right leg over as you start moving!! Might have to try a bit of that.

In the office today for some actual work and my exit interview!! This $hit is getting real.

A very rare bird at the Vuelta today- a team time trial! I might have to speed watch when I get home.

  4. Another night where I couldn’t keep up with the group. I’m too fat, and not riding enough. Or, my cardio is fucked. Either way, it’s frustrating and discouraging.

    • Bob says:

Those guys ride like 3 or 4 times a week, you riding one time a week is not enough to keep up. Don’t beat yourself up, you are too busy to keep up conditioning like them.
I have given up on trying to keep up anymore, I just make sure I know the route put on some music and enjoy the ride 🙂

  5. Breakfast eaten.
    Lawn mowed.
Some WLF work done, more needs to be done.
Hummingbird feeder with fresh sugar water hung.

The brick path I rediscovered in 2020 is getting recovered by grass. One of this Fall’s chores will be to weedwhack and try to kill the grass without affecting the crops.

  6. Found a big tomato hornworm on one of the two tomato plants out front. Could this also be the okra leaf culprit? For some reason I’m letting it live for now.

It is so lovely and cool outside in the mornings this week. I love Fake Fall (TM)!

We had a very quiet night at home last night eating salads and, shockingly, watching baseball.

Today is the first day of classes for the fall semester. Driving into work this morning there were a MILLION bike riders. A MILLION.

  8. Barb says:

went to a food hall place called Roswell Junction last night – they had 1/2 price wine & karaoke. Very few people there – only 1 table of singers (I think maybe a birthday party) and they were not very good. There were 3 of us, all getting food from a different stall. Good to catch up with some friends – sitting on a covered patio – perfect weather.

    • Bob says:

How is that place? I have been meaning to check it out. I hear it is super expensive.

      • Barb says:

Bob – its worth checking out. Surprised a ramble hasn’t stopped in there.
Since we had 1/2 price bottle of wine – I found out about that deal searching the internet – I didn’t look at the beer prices.

Food didn’t seem very crazy high, but all food is more than think it should be anymore.

It wasn’t very busy, but there were families there (just like at all the breweries)

  9. Bob says:

Another day sitting in this apartment, I’m going out of my mind I’m so bored. Yesterday I needed to run out to pick up a prescription so I stopped by the outlet mall just for a change of scenery.
It is what it is and dad is OK sitting around. Getting him up and out of the house may prove difficult judging on how out of breath he is just getting up to go to the bathroom.
Next steps are not going to be fun 🙁

    • Barb says:

This elder care is soooooo much fun, isn’t it?
I don’t know what their financial situation is, but you could get some in home care to come check on him? The company we tried in Iowa was 2 hours minimum @ $40/hr – then $32/hr after 2 hours. (and – the bonus was the lasy did light cleaning, it was nice to know some vacuuming, etv was getting done once a week)

      • Bob says:

We did the home care for a while but my dad would not give them anything to do so they would just sit there and talk. He wouldn’t shower or clean or get changed, just sit around. It’s frustrating.

    • Sorry Bob. Having gone through this as well I know how fun it isn’t.

  10. Forced myself back outside to use weed whacker on brick pathway. Looks pretty decent now, but far from perfect. I will try to stay on top of it. Next year I may investigate buying a different weed whacker since mine frustrates me greatly.
