Fancy Meeting You Here

Life is really fucking funny. Not once, but twice yesterday I had a “what the fuck?” moment. The first came as the elevator in which I was riding stopped at the second floor of my building where my friend, and ITP-reader, Darren (aka Gentri) appeared. Apparently Darren is taking some training course with New Horizons which has just moved into the building. And then last night as I was having dinner at Six Feet Under with some friends and former coworkers I saw the brother of that young lady to whom I referred in yesterday’s blog (the one that dumped me five years ago). Each encounter was completely unexpected, even if one was pleasurable and the other notosomuch.

As For The Pleasurable Side Of The Evening
Dinner at Six Feet Under was fantastic. Because my friend David still works nearby I picked him up and drove him home where we waited for his partner Victor to arrive. From there the three of us went over to Six Feet Under and awaited the arrival of my former coworker Mitsy, her husband Mitch and their precious six-month old daughter. The meal was even better as we were served by one the prettiest and best waitresses to have ever served me.

This was my first meal at Six Feet Under’s new location, which is but one block East from its old location. The interior is wonderful, but curiously the restrooms are on the second floor and it wasn’t until later that I wondered if they have an elevator so that disabled patrons can use them. Having declared the day a “meat day” at lunch with the consumption of a shrimp and a couple of chunks of chicken I went whole-hog at Six Feet Under by eating a bacon-wrapped jalapeño, some calamari, and the catfish tacos for dinner.

I’d give you an indication of the prices currently at Six Feet Under if not for the fact that my friend David graciously picked up the tab without allowing us to even look at it. Guess I’ll have to return the favor at some time. 😉

Waiting On An Important Delivery Today
I’ve made yet another purchase from Amazon. Hey, it was only $20 how could I not? What did I buy?

A “Sabrent USB-DSC5 Serial ATA or IDE 2.5-/3.5-Inch to USB 2.0 Cable Converter Adapter with Power Supply” (which if you read it fast enough sounds just like “Red Rider BB Gun”)

Hard Drive Kit

And why would I want one of these? Because with this apparatus I plan to finally get all of my data collected and organized onto my network attached storage device. No more wondering “Hmmm, I wonder what’s on that hard drive?”

Serenity Now! SERENITY NOW!!!

Happy Birthday To One Of My “Newer” Friends
Since joining Flickr a few years back I’ve met a few quality people. Suspected ITP-reader John, aka HamWithCam, is one of those and celebrating a birthday today. I wonder if any of his meals today will involve Pastry A Go Go or Taqueria Del Sol?

Digital Download Of The Week
This week’s pick has nothing to do with a CD released today. Guns N Roses’ “Chinese Democracy”? Yeah, whatever………

No, instead I want to turn you on to a band that you’ve probably never heard… These United States. Recently I heard a WOXY podcast with These United States and thought their sound was really good. I looked up their latest release “Crimes” as a download on iTunes ($9.99) as well as Amazon ($7.99) and guess where I suggest you go? (Perhaps I should have purchased Amazon stock instead of Apple…)

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Daily
Current Mood – fair
Current Music – listen to the “Sound Opinions” podcast
Website Of The Day – I’m a big fan of the artwork of Mr. Hooper. I still possess one of his smaller works and gave one away to that young lady five years ago upon her departure. I purchased it for her, I thought she should have it.
Mode Of Transportation To Work – my car
Exercise (b)Log – nothing

Monthly
Foot Mileage – 15 miles
Wheel Mileage – 0 miles
Consecutive Days Of Bed-Making (Longest Streak) – 2 (21)
Vegetarian Days – 16
Carnivorous Days – 8
Marta Rides – 0

Books To Read To Earn Kindle – 4

November Goals
1) Lose no fewer than three pounds
2) Drink no soda
3) Run no fewer than 75 miles
4) Bike no fewer than 100 miles

Look at Paulie getting all nerdy first thing in the morning. Does that come with leather seats?

  2. Yes, in fact they use rich, Corinthian leather just like in the 1978 Chrysler Cordova.

Tasty China’s surly waitress was in fine form last night. Jackass showed her his menu, she basically said no, they don’t have that, and he should just send it back to China. (or maybe she told him to go back to china, or both). She had us laughing all night.
Allan tried to order some fish dish, she changed his mind to some sort of very spicy fish soup. Carol (aka WineHo) got what she ordered on the first try (fried eggplant). Peter (aka GE) was told he didn’t want the pork (belly) dish, she said it was too fatty. He insisted, so she wrote it down, but then came back a few minutes later and said they were out of it. Not sure if that was true ;-).
Jackass got some other pork dish, and I got that chicken with the mushrooms again that was so good.

One other funny note – Jackass put some cilantro from the hot & numbing beef roll in a tea cup to get it off his plate – I thought surly waitress was going to throw him out of the restaurant.

I don’t even know what it is but for some reason I want one??? Man, two months of almost no shoping is taking it’s toll.

Yum, love the catfish taco at Six Feet Under, I haven’t been in quite awhile, I guess I need to put that on the to do list.

  5. @Barb: Very funny. Sometimes I wonder if they really only keep six dishes in stock and that’s why she “recommends” them. 😉

@Martha: I’m sure Nibbles’ clothing are fewer than two months old. 😛 That’s the problem with children and animals — they keep us from spending money on ourselves.

  6. Steve says:

Is there a plan forming for Sunday? Running, drinking, hockey, drinking, etc?

How far is the new 6FU from the old? I have on occasion walked to the old location from the MARTA station and would gladly do it again…

  7. Gentri says:

That was really too funny Paulie! Makes you wonder who else in this very small world of ours we just missed sometimes! Ran into my host-sister down in Peru about 10 years ago… go try and figure that one out!

I’m looking at a shuttle box from newegg running ubuntu server to be my main backup currently… install a “server closet” in the basement to run everything and just go wireless, with the signal plugged into the back of the flat screen… at the planning stages now, but it is certainly do-able and allows me to lock up my computer gear…

I also have 3/4 hard drives with “stuff” on them to consolidate, so I feel your purchase was a good one!

  8. Martha says:

True, Nibbles has a few new things, but mom is cheap and bought everything on clearance…so I’ve only spent about $25 on the lot.

I’m up for some running, drinking & hockey, in no particular order!! If we need a place to run, I’ll offer up the house, it will already be a mess from Tday anyway.

Paulie, I forgot to mention, if you want your house to make you truly miserable, install some insulation in the attic. That’s what I spent a few hours doing yesterday, the job isn’t done…and won’t be until I find someone else to finish it…I’m not going up there again. My knees hurt from crawling around, arms are itchy, I hit my head…and wasn’t able to accomplish the one part that needed it most of all. I spent most of last night trying to convince myself that I could already feel the difference and it wasn’t a waste of time.

The project for tomorrow afternoon, installing a light fixture on the back porch.

  9. Sunday will be a hockey day. I’ve forgotten who said that they were committed to going, however.

I looked at tickets today online and would have been able to get a row of ten $32.00 (before TicketMaster fees of course) if I wanted. From what I hear, tickets have not been selling well so we may be best off to just go down there and buy tickets on Sunday.

  10. @Gentri: I’ll be glad to lend you all the cables and whatnot once I’m done with my first round of consolidation.

@Martha: HA! I started attic insulation after getting dumped five years ago. I got about 70-80% through the project before taking a “short” break. So far that break has been five years. LOL!!!

  11. Barb says:

Anyone ever talk to Asshole these days? I wonder if he has any deals on tickets.

Here is who I remember said they wanted to go:
    Paulie
    Martha
    Steve
    Debbie
    ME
    Allan
(Kevin Beebe told me yes a while back, but I haven’t confirmed it again)
I can’t remember if Stacy wants to go either.
    Anyone else?

I like the idea of just getting tickets down there that day (no ticketbastard charges), game is at 3:00, want to meet at 1:30-2:00 near Gorins?

  12. 1:30-2:00 near Gorin’s sounds great. I’ll be seeing Kevin at Thanksgiving so I’ll give him the information then.

  13. Barb says:

We could do the all you can eat seats – if they have any available. They are only $39 for the upper deck. We can bring flasks to add to the coke products?

  14. Gentri says:

Try blow in insulation next time… very easy to just stand there and direct the blast of insulation. Only time on hands and knees is to install vapor barrier (6 mil plastic). blower rental was free with $$$ amount of insulation purchased… very reasonable.

  15. Martha says:

Come on Barb, you know I don’t eat. Someone should drop Bwana a note…

So do we want to have a run (or for Paulie a bacon eating get together) on Sunday?

  16. I’m game for anything on Sunday — running, bacon, hockey, drinking, drinking, drinking, eating, drinking….

@Gentri: I’m hoping that there is no “next time” for me and insulation. I *do* hope to finish the project this Winter. I should do it if for no other reason than to get up there and make an attempt to get all of the animal scat out of my attic.

  17. Steve says:

We could have a late run… otherwise, I’ll not be able to hold out all afternoon drinking and whatnot. I just can’t keep those buzz’ rolling like I used to…. without a good nap!

Or we could all just run on our own 😉

    -FP

  18. Barb says:

Allan bought a few 4 x8 sheets of plywood, had Home Depot cut them in half lengthwise, so it is easier to move around in the attic without worrying about falling thru. AND – be sure to wear a mask.

I don’t run (as you all know) but if you plan a run, maybe we would show up for the food portion. Or, maybe we’d go ride our bikes……

  19. Martha says:

“Or we could all just run on our own”

    What fun would that be?

We could do a 10 am start? Time to run, eat bacon, clean up a bit???

Steve if you need a nap I’m sure Toby won’t mind sharing his bed for a bit.

@Paulie, Amen!!! There will not be a next time…I heard you can actually pay people to do stuff for you!!!

@Barb, I’m so graceful that falling through the ceiling never occured to me 😉
The problem was with the space over the ‘laundry room’, there is only a small opening to crawl through, to be honest I’m not sure if someone much bigger than me could get in there, I kept having to crawl in and out to get another piece of insulation…I needed a helper to feed it to me…after about 4 trips I gave up and just laid the stuff in over the bedrooms…

  20. 10am might be too late to start if we want to be at Philips by 1:30pm. Just sayin’.

  21. Martha says:

9??? It matters not to me, I’ll be awake by 5:30 either way.

When I post to the yahoo group, is it okay to mention the game? Or is this a super, secret, cool kid field trip? 😉

  22. 9am would be better. Mention away! The more, the merrier!

  23. Barb says:

wait – I just thought of something, I thought Paulie had given up running for a while? Or, does Paulie just want to start eating bacon at 9AM?

We won’t be there that early, but will probably make an appearance at some point.

  24. Sssh, I’m only pretending that I’m going to run. 😉 Actually I’m hoping that I’ll be *able* to run. There is an unfortunately good chance that I’ll be re-injuring myself on Thursday.

  25. Martha says:

Barb if I cook it (bacon) they (Paulie) will come.

You’ll be fine, you made it through MMM…just take it easy and if you can’t run on Sunday, I’ll put you to work in the kitchen!

  26. Stacy says:

Y’all are cracking me up! 🙂 I’m going to pass on the hockey game…the po-po’s stopped me today so Cobb County’s going to get my hockey money. D’oh!

“If I cook it (bacon), they (Paulie) will come” is just about the funniest thing ever.
