Inside The Perimeter

I went to an incredible Asian market yesterday called “Nam Dae Mun” in Morrow yesterday. It was huge, occupying a former Target store. There is a high likelihood that I will return in the future.

Unlike many trips south of I-285 for car maintenance, the reason I went south yesterday was to go to the Home Depot on Jonesboro Rd. Unfortunately once again the item I was told was in stock wasn’t to be found anywhere.

I cushioned the Home Depot blow with a couple of High Lifes and a delicious Turkey club sandwich at Ideal Sports Bar.

A lot of my shorts and pants are wearing thin and getting holes. I think that I’m going to see if I can patch them before buying new ones.

Well, I was going to go up to ride Beautiful Backroads this year, until I saw that the registration fee is currently $70. I know that everything is going up, but $70 is more than I am willing to pay for this ride.

I went to Athens Friday to go to the 40 Watt Club to see The Baseball Project perform. Not familiar? Not surprised. It’s a bunch of musicians from other bands, most notably Peter Buck and Mike Mills from REM, who play songs about baseball. The lead singer was wearing a Montgomery Biscuits hat. Dangen! I’ve still never seen one of their games and this was the last week of their season…

The show was great, and I had a good chuckle when Mike Mills said “It’s great to see your faces, but not your fucking cellphones. You must have enough pictures of us by now, so why don’t you all put the cellphones away for the remainder of the show.” Brilliant!

Wordle: five, my starter was FRUIT

I finally remembered about what I was going to write yesterday! On Wednesday night I watched the second half of “The Thursday Murder Club”. As a fan of the books, albeit one who can never remember all of the plot details, I thought the movie adaptation was good, but a little lackluster. Apparently one of the character’s plot line was altered significantly from the book, and that raised the hackles of many commenters.

My monthly issue of Games magazine arrived in the mail yesterday. The latest issue felt thin, and it was only 48 pages. When I went back to the last four issues I had at hand, each had approximately 80 pages. This doesn’t bode well for the magazine’s future, nor my continued financial support.

I’m in the process of cleaning up, and out, my basement; it’s a big job. I’m also trying to start some indoor gardening. Unfortunately my first attempt to grow mushrooms failed, mold started growing in the bag.

Wordle: two, my starter was. ALTER. My first Wordle deuce since January!

Shrinkflation is at it again, this time with 8 O’clock Coffee. The last bag I purchased is now down to 11 ounces.

I tried watching the first episode of “The Paper”, and hated it. If you haven’t heard, “The Paper” is the reboot of “The Office”, in which the film crew from “The Office” tracks down the remnants of Dunder Mifflin at a paper company. It appears that Oscar will be the only returning regular character.

I baked a loaf of bread yesterday morning. Unfortunately I didn’t bake the loaf that I wanted to bake, since I didn’t realize that I accidentally turned the virtual page to another recipe. By the time I realized my error, it was too late. As I used this bread to make a ham sandwich last night I realized that it would be excellent for muffulettas.

I also swung by a house and picked up some oak logs which were on their curb. I didn’t take them all, just enough to either use for mushroom growing, or dry out for a fire next year. I was intending to buy mushroom spawn plugs while in South Carolina this weekend and drill them into these logs soon…

Very fun weekend in Thomson with some of the Chattanooligans. We sat around and drank beer, and had a large steak dinner on Friday.

On Saturday morning we set out for a nice, 45-mile ride. Later in the afternoon we went to a blues festival, where the headline was Chuck Leavell. This was the first time that I’ve heard of this annual festival, which has also featured musicians such as Winton Marsalis and Trombone Shorty.

On Sunday morning we went out for a 34-mile ride, before sitting around to eat lunch and drink a couple of beers before dispersing.
