Total number of goals scored this weekend by the five soccer teams I follow: 1
Obviously none of them won, nor drawn.
I’m a jinx.

I have identified a problem with using book for recipes: searchability. This flaw applies to Kindle books as well as physical books. On Friday I wanted to find a recipe for baking submarine/hoagie rolls. I looked through seven books on bread baking that I have in my possession, but could not find a single recipe for these types of rolls. Within two minutes of searching on the internet I discovered this this recipe for Italian Sub Rolls on King Arthur Baking Company’s website. Unfortunately my dough didn’t rise properly so my rolls weren’t great, they looked more like breadsticks than rolls. I will have to attempt this recipe again someday, and if it fails again look elsewhere.

If I’ve learned anything about making a sourdough starter it’s that you wind up discarding a lot of the goop for which you’ve lovingly cares. Yesterday morning I made a batch of waffles using sourdough starter discard! They were different from other waffles I’ve made recently, but they were also fantastic.

Wordle: four, my starter was OPIUM

  1. Excellent men’s Paris-Roubaix yesterday, even with all of the commercial interruptions.

    Happy Monday!
I had quite the eventful week. Went down to Florida to visit family then did a side quest to Miami on the Brightline train. Good times. While down there I did a 46 mile ride around lake Apopka which is one of the largest lakes in Florida. There is a 17 mile gravel section on the ride where I was completely alone, no cars or other riders. Just me and the 30 alligators I passed (I counted 30, there were probably more).
Wheelhopper pub crawl yesterday to cap it all off. I need a vacation from my vacation.

    busy weekend –
had Terri intown from the Baltimore/DC area.

Saturday went to the Center for Puppetry Arts -for Stinky Cheese Man & other fairly stupid tales. It was super cute & fun. We then headed down to the Beltline for a walk & some lunch. Got back home late afternoon – Mango (aka John) was coming to pick up his truck he had stashed here while he was in TX for a week. We ended up having Tasty China for dinner & all went to bed early.

Sunday we got Terri to the airport fairly early, then Wheelhopper pub crawl – we made it to 3 stops, then had to head home since we had dinner plans with the in-laws. Good times as usual finding the gay bars. The Beltline is SOOOO CROWDED – its a challenge riding a bike on it at times- but I didn’t crash. Some discussion about STU – Bob has a plan for the Saturday route & the wings stop.

  4. You all led far more exciting lives than I did this weekend. Admittedly, I chose a low key weekend for myself so I’m not complaining.

    Wordle in 4.

Saturday’s 50th anniversary dance event was fun. Some very old faces and a lot of catching up. I learned while I’m still able to do the dances, I’m not in dancing shape. In case you’re wondering, this is one we did Saturday:

My pulse hit 153 when doing another one.

Sunday was an amazing day watching Paris-Roubaix. Flats, bike swaps, chases, a little bit of everything! Sad MVDP couldn’t get back to the front, but it was his own teams mistake in not running the same pedals so he could swap bikes!

Masters final round and Rory almost gave it away, but managed to hold on. Exciting golf (not an oxymoron!)

And I rode 30 yesterday and I’m feeling it today!

  6. Out doing errands in the Decatur-ish area, so treating myself to vegetarian Indian buffet for lunch.

Unsurprisingly there is no Skyclub at the St. Louis airport so we are at the (unsurprisingly named) Budweiser Brewhouse in terminal 1. It’s fine. What a great weekend we had watching baseball in St. Louis! It’s a cute little city, very sleepy. You don’t have to worry about crosswalks or anything, there’s no traffic. Red Sox won both games and it was a perfect 80 degrees!

Looking forward to being at home. Back to work tomorrow.

  8. Wow. I wanted to renew my library card (Dekalb County) and thought it easiest to stop at the library in Decatur. Apparently they had an “incident” recently, and as we love to do now, went way overboard and have put security in place which is tighter than the airport! I had to take everything out of my pockets, open every pocket in my bag, and go through a screener… to go into a library!

  9. I really wanted to stop for a beer or two at a bar, but after lunch my GI system said “Hard No!” so home I have come…
