“Do Better” should be the motto I repeat for my remaining years.
I had one thing on my “Want To Do” list for Vancouver, and because I didn’t do better it didn’t happen. The one thing was to visit the Art Deco Marine Building, to admire architecture and design from another era. Visiting the building was put off until Saturday. On Saturday morning when I asked Google Maps how long it would take to walk to the Marine Building from the hotel, I learned that the building is closed on the weekends.
As you read this I am probably either waiting to board my tiny can back home, or am enduring the five-hour flight back to Atlanta. My Lyft ride from the hotel to the airport cost me $42 Canadian, before tip. What the living fuck!?!? I’m ready to stop spending money for a while because this trip got really expensive.
Wordle: five, my starter was PUNCH
Wordle in 4.
So the building only had interesting things on the inside and not the outside?
One scooter is all but fixed. I replaced the alarm batteries (glad they were sold only in a two pack (not Tupac) as I surely would have bought just one and it requires 2). Now on to mounting the headlight back in its hole.
Family wedding in Griffin Saturday. Baptist preacher- ‘nuff said. There was alcohol at the reception, but we bailed quickly afterwards.
Was planning to ride Sunday afternoon, but then it started raining! Not complaining.

The interior of the building has beautiful art deco details. I couldn’t get into the lobby. To add further disappointment, they are working on the building so there is scaffolding covering parts of the exterior.
$42 CAD is $30 USD. What were you expecting to pay in 2025? Next time track down a goddamn horse and buggy, because that’s the era your pricing thresholds are frozen in.
Yeah, I was a little curious about that- unless the ride was across the street, quityurbitchin.
This is my blog. I reserve the right to bitch about whatever annoys me.
Nothing new here…
That goes both ways, pal.
On Friday we had a ride back to the hotel for CA$9 and it wasn’t that much further of a ride.
And the drive from the airport to the hotel was CA$33.
That’s why I was surprised.
I may get something back from Lyft because they missed their scheduled on time pickup.
EATS (on Ponce across from PCM) is closing?

Yep, that’s the word going around. Though I love it, it’s been decades since I’ve been a regular.
And I will avoid making one last pilgrimage. I thought we saved Cowtippers by showing appreciation, so this time around I will just let it go.
I haven’t been there since they stopped offering pasta. But I used to love it and went there regularly for almost 15 years. I’m sad to see it go but since I don’t go there anymore it won’t affect me.
At the airport, checked in, through security and customs. Flight boards in ninety minutes. I may be asleep in my seat shortly thereafter.
Oh, and I forgot to say “Hook ‘em GATORS!”
If you don’t already watch SEC Shorts, you need to look it up for this week.
Surprised me.
I’ve watched SEC Shorts during the Gators loss weeks, looking forward to watching it this week.
First faculty meeting of the year this morning, and it was a doozy. Glad that’s over.
Another very quiet weekend. The big thing we did was make a massive Costco run on Saturday, after which we rewarded ourselves at the General Muir. Otherwise I didn’t leave the house all weekend. Yesterday afternoon I made a white lasagna with Italian sausage. It was basically a pastitsio with Italian flavors. It came out really good. As I always do when I make lasagna, I used half ricotta and half cottage cheese. I just prefer the flavor of cottage cheese.
That sounds really tasty.
crazy busy day……..
