On Saturday morning I met Betsy at Emerald City Bagels, as normal. What I discovered is that the idiotic DOT is in the process of pouring concrete, taking away almost all of the street parking on Glenwood Ave in East Atlanta Village, in the name of “traffic calming”. What a bunch of bullshit! Businesses are having a hard enough time these days, why install a literal barrier for their customers?

I’ve decided to allow myself two more months of ESPN+, until the Bundesliga season ends. I’ve learned that ESPN’s contract to show Bundesliga games ends at the conclusion of this season, so I will see where it is shown next season before making any future decisions. My favorite team Werder Bremen may also be relegated to the second division again this season, which may make this a moot point.

  1. Severe thunderstorms, tornado watch, and later a freeze warning. How did we get so lucky?

Speaking of tornadoes, this past weekend marked the seventeenth anniversary of the one that ripped through downtown and Cabbagetown before fizzling out about a mile from the ITP Estate.

  2. If you are like me, god forbid, you may need this refresher…

What is the difference between a Tornado Watch, and a Tornado Warning? The National Weather Service has two key alerts to watch out for.

    Tornado Watch: Be Prepared!
Tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. Review and discuss your emergency plans, take inventory of your supplies and check your safe room. Be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued or you suspect a tornado is approaching. Acting early helps to save lives! Watches are issued by the Storm Prediction Center for counties where tornadoes may occur. The watch area is typically large, covering numerous counties or even states.

    Tornado Warning: Take Action!
A tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar. There is imminent danger to life and property. Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If in a mobile home, a vehicle, or outdoors, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris. Warnings are issued by your local forecast office. Warnings typically encompass a much smaller area (around the size of a city or small county) that may be impacted by a tornado identified by a forecaster on radar or by a trained spotter/law enforcement who is watching the storm.

Remember: a warning is worse because it has more letters…

good storm this morning – if it ever gets light out, I need to see how big of a branch hit the roof – as I heard it!

My brother even pinged me this morning – asking if we had a tornado!
ATL airport is on a ground stop until at least 11am I saw on the news – hope no one we know if flying today.

Wordle in 4. 3 yesterday and 2 on Saturday!

We thought the wind would be up overnight, so I moved the “new” truck and tractor out from under the trees. They may sit there a day as the wind arrives shortly.

27 miles in early yesterday. Came home to Debbie wanting to go to “brunch”. A new to me spot “It’s Just Brunch” and it was excellent. No liquor license yet. Beignets to start, Debbie had a waffle with apples and I had a catfish sandwich. The table next to us had a starter with oxtails and said it was outstanding! Will try that next time.

I rode 29 slow miles with my friend Mindy at Silver Comet Saturday – she has a hybrid, and she actually doesn’t like that bike. So now she is thinking about getting a gravel bike.

We found a winery jut off the trail – there was a very new soft gravel path up to it. We didn’t try the wine, but the strawberry slushie was tasty. Its a nice facility – I doubt the wine is actually very good, but a great rest stop. (now if they just press that gravel down into something that would be rideable)

    • I love oxtail, but like chicken wings, they were once incredibly inexpensive but no more due to their popularity.

Ugh, seriously re: Glenwood?! That sucks. There is already no parking for those businesses unless you want to cross the street.

The only thing we did this weekend was take Finn to his Buddy Baseball game Saturday morning and stopped at General Muir for lunch on the way home. Otherwise I did not leave the house. Yesterday I made shepherd’s pie as well as a fish chowder with halibut, peas, potato, onion, and celery.

  7. Barb says:

Went to the Gladiators game yesterday afternoon – and I think for maybe the 1st time – they won!
it went into overtime – and a shoot out!
We were trying to remember the last time we saw them win – and can’t.
It was a fun game –

Hated to miss the Wheelhopper – but Kevin had bought the tickets a while back.

  8. Just whipped up a batch of pimento cheese, following the recipe in “When Southern Women Cook”.

  9. Bob says:

My guess on the Glenwood thing is they want you out of your car and walking. If you have to walk a bit to go to a restaurant maybe you will walk past a store and stop in and buy something.
Busy weekend, moto ride Friday on a big loop to Cumming, Canton, and Marietta. Beautiful day to ride. Stopped at Reformation brewing in Canton. Have you been there? It is super nice and has a huge area to hang out with food options close by. Last stop was Schoolhouse, I really want to try the principals challenge!
Saturday did a mixed surface bike ride in Roswell then jumped back on the moto and rode around some more. Found some Hooligans out and about pub crawling so joined them for a beverage.
Sunday was wheelhopper, we had a decent crowd and rode a lot of our home built trails. Good times!

    • From what I’ve heard the business owners hate it and are attempting to stop its completion. The Beltline should hire these people, they clearly know how to pour concrete quickly…

As there is only parking on the south side of Glenwood Av it removes any street parking, which if Grant Park is any blueprint, means that parking lots will start charging for parking. It’s a lose/lose for the consumer.

      • David says:

Now, that’s an excellent point, who knew concrete could get poured so quickly? Those state DOT fuckers are acting like it’s going out of style. From what I’ve read, the state unilaterally decided to nuke the street parking, and didn’t notify the city or any of the businesses. Ugh. Our tax dollars at “work”.

    • I can’t recall if I’ve been to that Reformation. I went to a lot of far flung breweries in the olden days.

I may go to the Reformation in Smyrna again, this time in an effort to try the barbecue place which abuts it.

    • Barb says:

I’ve been to that Reformation in Canton – it is a nice area. (and – it seems like the parking isn’t anything as horrible as the Woodstock location)

I guess your gout is better – lots of beer drinking! 😉

I saw a reel of only 1 guy that completed the principal’s challenge……. it looks TOUGH

      • I know I can’t do the principal’s challenge, so I won’t even try. My limit was the Foster’s challenge back in the old Black Sheep campout days.

      • Bob says:

I rolled the dice with all the beer intake this weekend, however I had no red meat so I’m going with that protection 🙂

The principal challenge now has 2 successes according to the bartender. Many more failures though, I still want to try it.
Paul, the challenge is not the amount of beer (I think it is only a pint or less), the challenge is the 35 pound mug you drink it from.

  10. I must be bored today, ignoring my chores, because I keep returning to add stuff.

Over the weekend I also channeled my inner ITP-Reader Bob used (and not “utilized”) my pole saw to take down branches of a smallish tree which were nearly the roofline. The tree is in my neighbor’s yard, so I cut the portions which overhung mine. I’ll be damned to spend any more money on this “tree limb / roofing / insurance” nonsense.

  11. Steve says:

Somehow, I missed that yesterday was a Wheelhopper. My bad.

  12. Holy crap, tiny hail is falling…

  13. Barb says:

I had to get my winter coat back out – its sleeting/hailing now
