Back in Atlanta. Back to being cold.
The weather app I use tells me how today’s weather compares to yesterday’s. Today it says “Today’s weather will be 35° colder than yesterday’s”. Oy! Of course I started yesterday in Orlando, Florida…

  1. Although I may be a couple of weeks late, today I will be sowing my first round of tomato and pepper seeds. I waited until I returned from Florida because in the past I’ve suffered plant death when I’ve gone away for a week or more and my seeds/seedlings have dried out.

  2. This morning I learned how long not to cook a pound of Smithfield bacon in the oven. Sub-freezing temperatures invited me to crank up the oven, and my inattention meant that some of the bacon I ate this morning was a little crispy and burnt. But, even overcooked bacon is bacon, so it was delicious.

    • Barb says:

I check my bacon too much when baking – I love crispy – but it can get to burnt too quickly after that

      • Jenka says:

I like it REALLY crispy so I always fry it in the iron skillet. But I don’t make it very often.

        • I’m using the method of putting bacon on a foil-lined sheet pan and inserting that into a cold oven, then turning the oven on. The bacon cooks slowly as the oven heats… (see also: The Bacon Method)

A bonus of my return to baking bacon is that I have a good amount of bacon fat in the refrigerator that I use for frying eggs, etc.

Had I been more ambitious yesterday I would have prepared some bread dough to put into the oven when the bacon came out. As it was I couldn’t even convince myself this morning that it was worth preparing biscuits to bake after the bacon.

it was REALLY warm on Saturday, then cold & breezy Sunday morning.
    Weird weather.

Friday went to the fish fry – it was good to see Steve & Debbie, and some others.
Allan was underwhelmed with his shrimp & grits dinner (should have had more grits) – I told him we really don’t expect that much. 😉

Saturday I went & saw a silly rom com movie (Solo Mio) with some friends – it was barely worth the $8.50 matinee price.
Went & had dinner with Kevin in sandy Springs – that area around the performing arts center is really booming.

Sunday did a 7.6 mile hike at Kennesaw – it was so much colder than the day before, but it was ok – I’d rather have it cooler than hotter. My knee hurts today, I know its a ligament issue – I’ll survive.

    • Active weekend. Well done with the hike.

Along with “more bike riding” I am going to attempt to get out to state parks for hiking. Oh yeah, need to get a new roof and insurance company as well…

  4. First round of tomato and pepper seeds sown; six seeds each of twelve different tomato and pepper varieties for a total of 72 seeds sown.

Welcome back from Orlando, that place can be a real shit show.

I’m back from Asheville where I survived another neighborhood Dad’s trip. So many great breweries and diverse beers, I feel like I tried them all. Best brewery was as always Burial and their Skillet doughnut stout, it is a seasonal beer so not always available but if you ever see it get it. Most surprising to me was at New Belgium where I had a Fat Tire, I had not had one of those in years and apparently the recipe has changed. I really enjoyed it.
Good times, good food, good beers, tons of laughs made for a super fun weekend.

    Wordle in 4.

Friday, Debbie took her trailer (not the LQ) over to have Cyrus see the saddle fitter. Managed to push the trailer into the cab of the truck and pop the back window. Did enough damage that I have to take it to a body shop for repair. Grrr… Was lovely to see a lot of folks at the fish fry.

Saturday we managed to get Debbie off to Ocala with the LQ, Tanner and the 2 little dogs. George and I are enjoying the quiet house.

I think George still loves me after I put a full body harness on him. He stood like a statue and only moved when I told him we were going walkies. We got back and I removed it.

You all are a lot more exciting than I am. I am fine with that! Friday I was supposed to go to the Hawks game with Sarah but she cancelled so I joined Kevin and Finn at Six Feet for dinner, home in time for Jeopardy. Saturday we wanted to leave the house so we went to the Albert to watch UNC demolish my alma mater Syracuse in basketball. Sunday morning we went all the way up to Buckhead for the first gathering of Finn’s Buddy Baseball league and met his new buddy for the season. It was cold but the sun was out. Home by noon and I didn’t leave the house again.
