I’m not sure if you heard the news last week, but the band Rush never considered me to tour with them next year, but have instead chosen, Anika Nilles, who has vastly superior drumming skills.

Does anyone have a Costco membership? It’s probably been ten years since I had one. Is it a valuable investment for a single, aging, man who lives alone?

Wordle in 5 and coulda been 3!

Yes, we have a Costco membership.

After a long day on the field, the plan was laundry and dinner. Laundry was easy and while it ran, I sat in the truck and chatted with Debbie and surfed the web. When I went to leave, the battery was mostly dead. Im not sure that’s a walk of shame, but I will be returning shortly to hopefully recover the truck after its had a good nights sleep.

Dinner with the guest of honor tonight.

  2. Wow, just tasted the bacon I bought at Lidl the other day and it is saaaaaaalty.

    • Barb says:

I got some bacon at Aldi that was super salty one time – I’ve decided to usually buy better (aka more expensive) bacon most on the time now. Last few lesser expensive ones weren’t all that great.

  3. Steve says:

Breads, mostly. Their bagels are really good, and they do a loaf of sun dried tomato and something that’s really good. Blueberries, carnitas, guacamole pucks.

Guest of Honor is the chief of clan Dunbar (I think).

  4. Steve says:

And no joy on getting the truck to start. Called in a favor from the po po.

  5. Steve says:

Po po to the rescue. Next stop auto parts.

  6. Barb says:

Costco – no, Sam’s Club yes.
Sam’s is much more convenient to our house, Costco is at Cumberland or Town Center areas.
I’d only get a membership if it’s nearby enough to get gas.
We (as in mostly Allan) get gas mainly, rotisserie chicken, bacon bits, ranch dressing, meats. We get other stuff, but we don’t shop there regularly. What’s the membership cost these days?

  7. HamWithcam says:

    Costco, yes.
    We (as in I) go 1-2 times/month.
I get gas there, if convenient.

Trivia: What item/thing accounts for the majority of Costco’s profit?

Answer to today’s trivia question: “…memberships”

  8. HamWithcam says:

Costco seems to be a good place to get:
    – Consumables and staples in bulk (year supply of peanut butter, etc)
    – One-time electronics, big TV’s, computer monitors, depending, etc.
    – tires
    – All kinds of fresh produce, meats, cheeses, dairy, etc.
    – Oh, and baked goods. Inexpensive HUGE pies, serve 25+, muffins, etc.
    – ready-to-cook entrees
    – inexpensive but serviceable “look-alike” clothes, shoes even.
    – batteries (no leaks….yet. Jinx! Jinx! Jinx!)
    – The great deal on a thing you saw on aisle 7, took a photo of, but did not buy, but went back the next day, and no Costco employee has ever heard of it or seen it at that Costco.
    – Liquor (Perimeter location), as I understand it, no Costco membership required
    – (Prescription) and over-the-counter drugs and “toiletries” (shampoo, etc.). Same here, I do not think membership is required. Kirkland brand over-the-counter stuff is my go-to. 5,000 “Benedryl” for $4.95, etc.
    – bulk snack items, healthy and otherwise
    – food samples
    – gas
    – cheap fast food (pizza slices, excellent soft serve ice cream) and now…. products of the Coca-Cola Company. (Weeeee!)
    – literally a million other things…..

Pro tip: bring your own bag(s)

    • Barb says:

      you must have Costco stock……..

As long as you want a years’ worth of some stuff -its great!
We do buy toilet paper, paper towels, etc there – are the prices really any better? I’ve never really price shopped, but then we don’t have to buy these things for months.

      • Jenka says:

That’s the thing, I don’t really know what the prices are, but you don’t have to worry about having toilet paper, like, ever.

  9. Jenka says:

We have a Costco membership. We have the executive membership which costs about $120 per year, I think the regular membership is like $80-ish. We buy organic chicken, ground beef, Italian sausage, bacon (good bacon, perfect amount of salt!), olive oil, frozen veggies, wine, chicken stock, milk, eggs, butter, toilet paper, paper towels, dishwasher soap, laundry detergent, all sorts of snacks, the list goes on. Not usually fresh vegetables or anything because we only go every couple of months. Just with the wine it saves us money, a case of their Kirkland brand is $7.99 per bottle, the same kind at a liquor store would be $15. They have a ton of ready-made meals and sides which I have never explored. All that said, we have a 19 year old kid with a hollow leg and Kevin can also eat. If I were single I don’t think I’d bother. It’s too far and I wouldn’t need to buy 90% of that stuff.

    • Barb says:

Since we live close, we just run in for a few things – we aren’t their target audience – we have NEVER had a full cart there.
I got some glasses there a couple years ago – they were reasonably priced.

      • And that’s another hurdle for me, the closest Costco is Brookhaven (unless there is one closer south of me). I believe the closest Sam’s is I-85/Clairmont. So, neither band is particularly convenient for me.

  10. Good information, all. Thanks!

  11. Lunch today was a bacon sandwich on a roll that I baked this morning. The batch of rolls were far less successful than the loaf of bread yesterday.

If you’re looking to change your status, consider the monthly Scott Antique Market event. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. ($4 entry, using 1 $2 coupon.). Starts the Thursday after the first weekend, every month.

Anything, everything, antiques, jewelry, books, records, ephemera, art, cast iron, signage, estate sales stuff, junk. Endless.

People watching at its best. working the booths and customers.

Big. Two buildings. Atlanta Expo Center North and South.
Jonesboro Road at I-285, inside and outside I-285.
Quick trip for you right down Mo-Land….

Thursday and Friday are full of women alone, pairs of women, etc.
If you can’t bump into and meet somebody there, you’re not trying.
“Oh, are you into Panarama Ray? Yeah, I’m a photographer in East Atlanta…..”

(Is that how it still works?). 🙂

    So, maybe I’m mostly kidding.
For me, it’s just cheap entertainment.
And sometimes I find something interesting.

    • That’s not the direction I was headed at all. When I was a Costco member I got the most benefits from buying food for parties (which I no longer have) and eating cheap pizza/Pepsi meals because the Brookhaven location was on the backroads home from Perimeter Mall when I worked up there.

Given that it’s well of my beaten path, and, I really don’t need to buy much in quantity, I was curious to know who were members and what they bought these days.
