I’m Feeling Kneedy

Lately, standing for six hours has been no joy for my knee. After time it (left ACL) becomes sore and bothersome. I am sure that it is also linked to my desire to some day again wake up and not have my first thought of the day be “Crap, I need to lose weight.” The knee bone is connected to the fat – bone.

NC State : The Career Fair With A Focus Problem
I consider myself to be an expert in the field of engineering career fairs. Seven years of recruiting engineers combined with the past three solid weeks of attending college career fair backs up my assertion.

Yesterday was one of the strangest days of recruiting that I have ever experienced. During most of the career fairs that I work I usually see one or two resumes for people who did not attend the university hosting the career fair. However yesterday’s event was open to all. Yesterday I saw resumes from as far away as Cincinnati, Ohio (keep in mind the event was held in Raleigh, North Carolina); I saw resumes for schools for people who didn’t come to our booth when their school (Clemson University for example) hosted a career fair event; I saw a resume for a person who visited our booth when we had a representative at the University of Tennessee, but she wanted to make sure that we had her resume, so she came to Raleigh to give us another.

One nearby booth particularly amused me — although I won’t name them since they are a competitor. Word had obviously hit the street that they hire foreign students because they had a back-log of Indian / Pakistani students all day long. At one point I looked over and wondered if they had a “Hot Curry Now” neon sign on their booth that I could not see. Unfortunately for the Frito-Lay booth that was near this company the students waiting in the line to talk to the software development company had no problem raiding the Frito Lay snack display while doing so.

It’s Beerknurd You Nerd
While in Raleigh I’d be remiss if I didn’t make a stop at The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium (check out their URL to understand the title of this section). For the Atlantans in the crowd who have not been to The Flying Saucer think “Taco Mac” and you’ll understand why I love it so.

As is par for the course where ever I go, Flying Saucer was out of the first beer that I ordered (Duck Rabbit Amber Ale), so I switched to the beer special for the night — something from the Foothills brewery.

btw- while looking at the Flying Saucer’s website I discovered that beer critic Michael Jackson passed away at the end of August. I am surprised that this is the first I have heard of this.

More Worries About The Weather
It appears now that I will be escaping the bad weather predicted for Raleigh. Now I am focused on the outlook for south Georgia. My current plans are to head down to south Georgia (Cordele / Vienna) for a photography excursion and a stroll around the annual Big Pig Jig barbecue competition. However, the weather forecast for the weekend is sketchy (of course) and I am trying to decide whether or not I should spend the money on a hotel if the weather refuses to cooperate.

Shhhh, Please Don’t Ruin For Me Damn You Internets!
Last night was the finale of Top Chef. While I was back in my hotel room in time (and managed to stay awake to at least 9pm), Bravo was not offered on the TV. Crud!

I didn’t know who won, until I absentmindedly tried to Google the URL for the show and the first thing that popped up mentioned the winner. Curses!

Fear not, I won’t spoil it for the rest of you…

I feel for you. My knee hurts the most by the end of the work day. It gets so stiff and sore sitting all day, not moving. I can run or bike miles and it doesn’t hurt as much as sitting on my back side all day.

I can share my PT exercises with you if you like. My running has gotten much better in just the last week or so.
