A Running Tip For You

Kind of odd that a man who seems to refuse to get out and run even though he knows that it will help his weight problem and get him into shape for a half marathon for which he has already signed up would have a running tip, but I do.

When running early in the morning, before the sun rises, it is a really bad idea to wear dark-blue sweatpants and a dark-blue hoodie. Guess what…. DRIVERS CAN’T FUCKING SEE YOU, EINSTEIN!

I nearly hit some dude who was about to cross the street in front of me because he was wearing this midnight cowboy camouflage outfit, like he was a goddamn running ninja or something.

I think it’s funny. I also think that I am the only one who thinks it’s funny.

There’s A Whole Lotta Nothing Going On
My compadres in Denver have sucked me in to a 5pm Eastern Wednesday meeting so running at George’s has been placed on the back burner. What really sucks is that this means that I have to sit around the office a while after the meeting ends in order to let traffic subside. Last night I pulled up into my driveway some time around 8pm.

Once I got home, collected my mail, caught up on some tasks around the house, and then decided whether dinner beat exercise it was already past 9pm.
I know that this sounds like I am making excuses for not exercising (and I am).

Next Monday I plan to try something different. I will be giving up going to lunch with my lunch crowd and attempt to get my running in during that period of time. Wish me luck because I am sure as hell going to need it.

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like 360
You’ve no doubt heard about the console wars going on between the newly-released Playstation 3, the newly-released Wii, and last year’s Xbox 360. I have been holding off to see which system I am going to buy in hopes that one would be so much better than the rest that I would have no choice but to select it.

Yes, I know that I am a child. I’m okay with this.

After seeing the Wii in action I can honestly say that I need more than it offers. Besides, I have no history with the Zelda series and to me playing anything associated with Mario Brothers takes me back twenty-plus years and I want to move forward.

The Playstation 3 seemed like the logical choice for me. However, shortage of systems (I was not willing to camp out for one) and the scary feeling I get about Revision 1 hardware has led me to wonder if this is the one I should buy. I also still harbor some hard feelings toward Sony — there was the rootkit fiasco last year and it appears as if they are scaling back the UMD movie business that they pimped so hard for the PSP — a platform I was drooling over for some time. This makes me wonder what happens if Blue Ray is the loser in a war between it and HD-DVD (think “VHS v. Betamax” if you are old enough to know what the hell a Betamax machine was) since a Blue Ray drive is built into the Playstation 3.

This leads me to the Xbox 360. I have had my squabbles with Microsoft in the past and will be a very late adopter of Vista, if I ever adopt at all. However, the Xbox 360 now has one year of maturity under its belt and with the release of the HD-DVD drive add-on (another 200 clams) allows the Xbox 360 to play HD movies. What’s appealing about this solution is that if HD-DVD winds up being “Betamax” I am sure that Microsoft can release a Blue Ray drive add-on in a jiffy. Microsoft has now started selling video content which can be played via the 360 which also piques my interest.

Say It With Me
Ta-ta Poverty…. That is my prediction for tonight’s Survivor. While I really don’t want to see her go, she is my pick in my weekly pool. Last week’s winner, Stacy, had first pick and she chose Adam. I am hoping he has a repeat performance winning the Immunity Challenge and that the powers-that-be decided to stick with their alliance therefore selecting Poverty as the sacrificial lamb.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – so large I think I’m going to explode. I feel like Violet Beauregarde from “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing The Walkman — “Louisiana”
Website Of The Day – It’s a cartoon strip. About a duck. Who owns camera. And, it’s called What the Duck. Admit it, you are intrigued…
Training Target – 3 mile run + strengthening
Exercise (b)Log – blech, I am so out of it

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

    Since you are not running and giving running tips, I am going to not diet and give a diet tip, straight from the Cardiologist’s mouth: Cut your plate size in half.

    I was at a cardiology conference a few weeks back to make sure nothing blew up, as our regular tech was out. The main topic was diabetes, and the need for a lot of them to lose weight. The cardiologist basically stated to all the Docs that they should forget asking about “How much they excercise” and just tell them “Eat half as much, cut your plate in half.” He said that in a study done, 80% of weight loss came from eating less, and only 20% from working out…. and as a side note, the main Cardiologist from Houston and the Assoc. Card from Grady/Emory are both vegetarians… there might be a hint in there!

    “Yes, I know that I am a child. I’m okay with this.” Have you polled the women you date/ed on how far up their check lists this item might be? 😉 PS don’t forget to call when that 360 has a safe warm place at your house, I’ll help you break it in! (Call of Duty 2 please!!!!)

    Poverty (what the hell were the other kids names, Pestilence and WAR?) is a safe bet, though I would try and keep Jonathan around, who’s not gonna hate that man? Which may be a reason to keep him till the end.

    Most men are children (especially when it comes to their toys) and all seem to be okay with it, regardless of what us women think.

    I’m going to gloat just a little bit…7 days in a row of exercise!!! I’ve been going to the gym every week day after work and hitting the treadmill (yesterday I also tried my first Spin Class). It is doing wonders for my mood. I’m still a bit pissy and hating the holidays but the urge to punch everyone (anyone?) has faded and the uncontrollable crying has almost stopped. So my point is if I can do it…

    @Gentri

    One of the reasons I plan to run at lunch is because I eat way too much at lunch. It doesn’t matter that I know I shouldn’t eat the entire plate, I do it regardless. My plan for when I eat in is to use an appetizer-sized plate. Anything that can fit onto it I can eat, and I only get one plateful.

    I haven’t even had a date since June, so there is no worry about whether women think it’s okay for me to be childish. I am only worrying about myself these days.

    And her real name is Parvati, but it’s more fun to call her Poverty.

    @Martha

    Well done young lady! I don’t know when/if I will return to a gym — January is definitely not an option.

    I was thinking it was like “Pavarotti” when I read it, but she sure is a lot skinnier than an Italian Tenor!
