For year animators have been drawing short-haired women into their animations because it was easier to draw and the computing power to generate flowing long hair was not available. There is a movie coming out next week called Megamind whose commercials have been catching my eye. Can those of you who’ve known me for a while figure out why?
Does Roxanne Ritchi remind you of a certain someone who left my life almost seven years ago? Seven years ago…. my, my, where does the time go?
A Somewhat Wasted Night
I had a ticket to last night’s Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit show at The EARL. I didn’t go. In part I was in no mood to leave the house at 10pm on a Thursday night (once that would have never been a roadblock), and in part because I was going to make an effort to start writing an iPhone app because I really, really, need the practice if I want to return to being a bone fide developer.
I was partially successful in my quest. I wound up running into hurdles that I could not overcome and after a few hours of struggle tossed my hands in the air and gave up. Tomorrow’s another day…

Um, nope again.
Thirty Years Later, I’m Ready To Buy “The Wall”
I’ve had a long history with Pink Floyd’s album “The Wall”. I was introduced to Floyd by a childhood friend in the mid/late 1970s and when “The Wall” was released I was thrilled. There was one problem with “The Wall” however, it made me extremely sad. Not even going out on my first date to the midnight showing of “The Wall” (the movie obviously) with a girl named Rhonda could change my attitude toward the music. (fwiw- Rhonda and I went on two dates before she returned to the boyfriend from whom she had just broken up. I should have seen the writing on the wall…) Because of the mood in which it put me I’ve abstained from purchasing the album for the thirty years during which it has been available.
I think I’m ready. Sure the digital download still costs $17-$20 (depending on where you buy it) — try and tell me that the music industry doesn’t rip people off — which may be a deal breaker, but I am considering…
RIP FoodMob
In the age of podcasts it’s almost a sure bet that once a podcast stops being released on a regular schedule its not long for this world. For a while I’ve been watching a cooking video podcast called “FoodMob” which was made in Ireland. About a month ago new episodes stopped appearing. And finally this week a one-minute “Hi, we’re done.” podcast was released. Bummer, I’m going to miss it.
It’s UF/UGA Weekend And I Don’t Care
Usually this weekend is fully of nerves for me as the Florida Gators takes on UGA. Normally the loser’s season is ruined and the winner has the chance to move one step closer to playing for the National Championship. Not this year however. Both teams are mired in lousy seasons, and while a month ago I would have bet money that Florida would be the victor, today I’m not sure.
I am sure that my life will be unaffected by the outcome of that football game, so I officially declare indifference.

I know who Roxanne looks like………
Since I can’t play on FB at work & refuse to get the interenet on my phone –
here is my comment to this:
“Not trying to be deep Barb, just stating fact. There was a woman that I think is pretty who works at REI and I didn’t even have the guts to tell her that I thought so. No guts no glory, or so they say.”
I actually got told I was attractive at the grocery store just the other day. I jokingly told him I hoped my husband thought so. Then he said if I wasn’t married he would hit on me. It was very flattering. You might have made that girl’s day. Just think about it that way sometime when trying to decide.
I knew that you’d be one to be on top of my question. I’ll bet dollar-to-doughnut (is that even a good saying any longer?) that Steve will know as well.
Oh, I did think of that Barb but I still couldn’t muster up the courage to let her know. Perhaps it’s time for me to start hoarding cats?
Once you start hoarding cats, then you start hoarding other things, then you get to be a basket case on a TV show about hoarders. I say……. just don’t do it.
Make a decision to just say Hi to someone you don’t know (a girl). that would be a start.
Paulie, you really need to step out of your comfort zone. Find an approachable woman and one that is ‘not your type’ and just say hi! Believe me, taking a chance on someone that isn’t your ‘usual’ can work out really well.
Now if you really want to go down the ‘crazy cat lady’ path, I can help with that as well. I’ll drop Bode off this weekend so you can do a trial run. I picked him up some catnip yesterday, he’s in rare form right now.
If you want to take photos this weekend, of hot, fit women, there will be a Barbells for Boobs fundraiser in Dahlonega (http://barbellsforboobs.com/). I won’t be there, beginning of the taper for Columbus, but is should be a great time (and it’s a good cause).
Boobs for Barbells does not seem like Paulie’s thing, even in his current state.
And, of course we know who she looks like.
I say, you can’t feel sorry you’re alone if you can’t say Hi to someone. You have no reason not to.
Sorry I’m late to todays comments, but this was my off day and the mizzus and I have been putting gutters on the barn- and trying not to kill each other.
You are the master of your destiny- if you want to be miserable and alone, you will be until you change your attitude and break out of your comfort zone. You MUST become vulnerable and take that risk in order to meet someone. Sadly, there is no equality in this dance- the man almost always must make the first move. Start small if you like- pay a compliment to a woman in passing- just walking by. Build up your courage in litle steps.
We have confidence in you.

You’ve never owned The Wall????!?!?!?!?
Color me shocked!
Wish you’d made to Jason Isbell. At 9pm, I called Stupid & coerced him into going with me to see Jason Isbell. Great show — the place was packed! If they didn’t sell out, they came close.
Bummer, it would have been good to see you.
I.Absolutely.Adore.the.Wall. It is most definitely worth that amount of money, for real.
And speaking of writing on the wall….do you know where that phrase comes from? (your little trivia question of the morning) 🙂
And since your 11/1 post ain’t up yet, I’m going to comment here (no spoilers): AAAAAAAAARGH! I hate how Amazing Race ended!!!!
Stacy (Fox), I agree on all counts. I have no idea from whence that saying came.
I’m putting the finishing touches on today’s post right now.
It’s actually from the book of Daniel (5:25-28) — where the king sees a disembodied hand writing strangely on the wall. Okay, so it was after a night of reckless partying and he was probably drunk off his ass – and who hasn’t seen weird things then? But still, strange words just appearing on the wall, being written by fingers not attached to anything? Yeah…that’s a bad trip.
This is where I love the Bible as *literature* — it’s fascinating. 🙂
Oh, the story goes he calls Daniel to interpret the saying, Daniel’s all, “dude – this so ain’t good news.”* The king is dead that very night. So seeing the writing on the wall comes to mean foretelling a certain conclusion, usually of doom.
*I paraphrased a bit here.
