Although I “did things” I wasn’t incredibly satisfied with this past weekend.
On Friday night I stayed at work late trying to get some things done. After leaving the office I drove toward home, stopped at QT for gas and two lottery tickets, and then made the rest of my journey. The rest of my night was so unspectacular because I can’t recall what I did.
I awoke Saturday morning and tried to be productive. I packed up the M6 with my last remaining 27″ CRT television, I believe the one I bought when I first moved to Atlanta twenty-one years ago, as well as a box of dead electronics. With the car loaded up I drove to the recycling day and paid $10 to get rid of the tv and stuff. From the recycling center I drove up to IKEA to buy a small lamp for my den, which I discovered on Friday night was very dark at night. After extracting myself out of IKEA I drove to the Lowe’s in Edgewood Retail District to pick up the area rug I ordered earlier in the week. On Saturday night I drove into downtown to attend “Tom Key & Friends” at Theatrical Outfit. I was home early enough to watch that bizarre ending to the Steelers v Bengals game.
The plan was to meet some of my Flickr friends in Centennial Park at 8am; newsflash — it was cold. Four of us wandered around downtown awaiting the start of Imaging USA.
Look! A Photo!
“Future Home of the Falcons” – Atlanta, GA
Imaging USA was good, I looked at the equipment and the women in attendance. After attending the show we walked over to Park Bar for lunch before splitting up. I returned home after lunch, dickered with my media center setup — which I may actually finish eventually — and then became a lazy bum by watching football.
Today I will be going to my six-month dental checkup. And tonight I will be going somewhere to watch the National Championship game with my boss, a Clemson graduate.
Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]
I had to do a double-take because I was up off Windy Hill this weekend and I purposely drove by the Braves stadium they’re building there to see it’s progress. Looks oddly very much the same distance along! I suppose that makes sense if they’re both supposed to open next year sometime. THESE cray-cray cranes I see every day from the office. 🙂
I’ll post a photo of the Braves next stadium tomorrow. I can see it from the dental chair because my dentist’s office is right across the street.
Well let’s see, Saturday was yardwork. I determined the limit of my stump puller which I was using to clear some of the woods. I hope it is still attached to the too big tree that I attempted to pull from the ground with the come-along. Saturday evening we went to Peachtree city and ate at Green Ginger.
Sunday I drove to Asheville via a tractor supply store in Travelers rest North Carolina or maybe that South Carolina where I purchased a cowbell. I was standing watching the races and another person stood beside me and after a few minutes I realized that I knew him as the former technical director of the Federation. He hadn’t noticed me either so we had a very good laugh. Moments later my old teammate Andy Bailey and his wife did exactly the same thing- stood next to us and then realized we knew one another. It was pretty funny- there were thousands of people at this event.
I don’t think the pictures of the course can do it justice- the off camber, muddy, through the trees trails were almost difficult to walk on in places, much less ride a bike much less race a bike. Mark, (technical director) who had just come from two weeks of racing in Europe, said this course was as close as he had seen to a European world cup course in the US.
Off today, and about to start some more yardwork.

And RIP David Bowie.
We went to a re-gifting party Saturday night – ended up with 2 ok gifts, so it was successful. And – I got rid of 3 “gifts”!
I’m ready for a re-giffting party at Paulie’s – I’ve got 2 more gifts to give away.
Sunday Allan worked & I went up to Ellijay to do a hike with JoAnna & the beagles. Found a nice about 4 mile trail on the north side of Carter’s Lake. I want to go back when its a nice sunny day, I think it would be a very pretty trail. It was cold, but not too bad, I was pleasantly surprised.
So Steve – you just drove up for the day? You like riding in your car way too much. Wasn’t that about 3.5 hours one way?
My take on Bowie will be in tomorrow’s blog.
The Facebook gods let me know yesterday that it was the 7th anniversary of a prior gift exchange party. 🙂 I think we got up to 8 — the 8th being at your place, Paulie.
This link is supposed to work for those not even on Facebook, so hopefully you’ll be able to see them all this way: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.48779231629.72855.654896629&type=1&l=ee0e45b494
Barb, I think it was right at 4 hours. Pleasant ride up, and a bit boring coming home- too many idiots rushing back to Atlanta. Thank god for satellite radio.
