A Frustrating Friday

End of year meetings have nearly booked my entire day. Frustrating… Sneaking this one in during my tiny window of opportuniy using the stuff I *did* prepare last night. :p

My DVR Life Is Ending Next Week
Well, I knew the time was coming and yesterday it became official. My Dish Network DVR receiver is going to be turned off next Friday. Bummer, there goes the ability to record any channel available to me. Somewhat sadly(?) this also means that I’m going to be missing shows that I would otherwise be watching. The reasons for this is that I often times record two shows at the same time, and I rarely watch any tv in real time.

Luckily TAR finale is this Sunday so I shouldn’t miss a single minute of this. As for the other shows that I will not be at home to view I guess I’ll have to use the other outlets available to me such as Hulu, Sling (if I can get their website to accept my information), network websites, and of course bittorrent.

I had nothing in the hopper for today. Frustrating.

Anyone Out There Have Connections With The Band “The Warm Fuzzies?”
In a roundabout way yesterday I heard of a band from Athens, Georgia called The Warm Fuzzies. I found out that the band has just released a six-song EP called “The Bubblegum EP” which they are streaming on their website and have for sale (no digital download however) for $10. While I gave the music a good listen and like what I heard, very Weezer-like, I can’t bring myself to spend $10 for a CD. Can any one out there get me a free disc, or preferably convince them to sell their music online at a discounted price? If not I guess that I’ll continue to hit their site up for a listen when the mood strikes me.

I Regret That I Have But Time To Run But One Hash
This weekend there are two hashes that I’d like to attend. The first, the Atlanta Hash, is going to be hared by my friend and part-time ITP-Reader BWanA so it should be an excellent trail. The second, the Black Sheep Hash, is the one that I should attend since I am the stats keeper (who has fallen way behind) but will most likely be the one sacrificed in order to get some home chores completed.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…

I see losing the DVR as a good thing.

I went several years without cable, it was amazing the amount of work I was able to get done on the house. TV is such a time wasters, from someone that wastes too much time with it.

B and I are also considering the hash on Saturday, let me know if you are interested in a car pool.

and lastly, I know it has been awhile so…hey Paulie, there’s a bootcamp Saturday morning if you are interested in trying it out!

  2. I’ll carpool with you.

Saturday morning I’ll be in my attic investigating the critter noises I’ve been hearing. I’m sure that there is scat that needs to be cleaned. I also plan to spread poison as well. What fun!

  3. Barb says:

Spending time in the attic is suck a joy……. well actually, ours isn’t so bad now that Allan has redone all the insulation and basically put a plywood floor in.

I’m thinking about getting a new phone today, I hate my slider phone (the Chocolate from Verizon). They have an iphone type of phone (Voyager) that would be free, but I don’t want to be a slave to my phone, so I’m thinking I shouldn’t get it. Plus, I’m lazy, I’d probably never figure out how to work all the features, so why get them……

If the weather is nice enough on Sunday, maybe I’ll go to blacksheep. It is looking like I’m going to actually GO to a movie on Saturday afternoon. We rarely go to movies, and I want to see Rachel Getting Married (and surprise, Allan doesn’t), so it will be a chick flick afternoon. It seems like a disfunctional enough movie for me, and its gotten good reviews. (for Paulie – hot chick Anne Hathaway is it.)

  4. Barb says:

oh, and Black Sheep is starting where Wheelhopper started a few weeks back. Interesting area, and WineHo didn’t even do the ride.

  5. Thanks so much for the plug; we’re glad you liked the tunes! We don’t personally have a way to sell digital online that’s convenient for the user, but the EP is now available through Amazon’s digital download service as well as eMusic.com. We submitted it to iTunes a while back, but it takes forever this time of year. Hopefully soon…

I know $10 is a lot for some to pay for CDs these days, but since we’re all graphic designers, we geeked out on it and made the CD itself “scratch and sniff” (it smells like bubblegum), with Bazooka Joe-style comic liner notes and a 100% recyclable case. We figure that most people just want the songs, and that’s cool, but we also wanted to give the old-school nerds like us something unique and one-of-a-kind.

    Thanks again!
    Jason

  6. Hey Jason.

I’ll see about downloading it. I have nothing against the packaging (and its cost), in fact I think yours is one of the best I’ve ever seen. I’m just trying to reduce the amount of stuff in my house so I like to buy digital.

Please let me know when you play in Atlanta. I’d like to go out and see you play in person.

  7. Davey Staton says:

    Hi,

I’m glad to hear you like our band. It’s too bad you don’t want to buy a CD. A lot of time and effort went into the design and packaging. We’re very proud of it. I realize that in this digital age, not everyone wants to buy CDs anymore, so for those who just want the songs, it should be on iTunes very soon. Until then you can download mp3s from Amazon here:

    Thanks!
    Davey – the Warm Fuzzies

  8. Davey Staton says:

I’m sorry. I didn’t realize Jason had already left a comment as well as a link for the Amazon mp3s. You can delete my comments if you like.

  9. Hey Davey,

Our comments crossed in the ether. See mine above where I say I think your packaging is one of the best I’ve ever seen.

If you (and/or Jason) follow up on this please note that I like and respect your work. My reference to a “free disc” was a plea to my friends with promo-connections to see if they had one that they no longer wanted and not a request to steal your work. I want to pay you for your music, but I am trying to reduce the amount of stuff in my house.

I am really glad to hear you’ve got your stuff up digitally. Consider me a satisfied customer when I purchase it tonight.

Hope to see you guys playing in Atlanta soon. I’ll introduce myself if you promise not to punch me. Cheers!

  10. Delete it? Hell no! I am impressed that you guys are so passionate about your work. I wish you all the best of luck.

  11. Davey Staton says:

It’s cool. We promise not to punch you. We’re really very nice guys, so you don’t have anything to worry about. We hope to play Atlanta sometime in the near future. Hope to see you soon.
