New Year’s Eve is the second-worst night to be single, and since that’s been my situation for all but a couple of my adult New Year’s Eves I’ve learned to stay home and go to bed early.

The end of another year…

2024 was an interesting, sometimes fun, but overall year of frustration for me. (see also: the decline of WordPress functionality on an iPhone forcing back into a word processor in order to type this)

On Saturday I succumbed to Duolingo’s “Super Duolingo for 60% off”. I knew an end of year offer would be made, and $60/year was something I felt I could afford.

Yesterday I (finally) registered for Big BRAG.

Compared to this year, next year’s vacations will be shorter, more local, and far less costly.

I’m quitting Connections for a while; it’s no longer bringing me joy.

While rooting through a bookcase yesterday I found a book I meant to read earlier in the month. The book, “Christmas in Plains: Memories” written by Jimmy Carter, turned out to be a signed copy as well. A quick search on eBay revealed that I was not the only one with such an item, and that the going (non-selling) rate for these seems to be about $40; not a lot, so I think that I will keep this copy and read it next December.

I wanted to watch Christmas Day NFL, but of course those games were on a subscription service (Netflix). So now I say “Fuck the NFL. You can’t keep your commercial-laden broadcasts!”. Bah! Humbug!

One of the nice things to learn when pretending to be a farmer is what plants can survive freezing temperatures. The other night I picked some Chinese cabbage and baby bok choy to add to the meal of frozen dumplings and Chinese noodles that I made for dinner. I still have some of these greens in WLF to eat before they go bad.

I received an email about next year’s Bo Bikes Bama. In this email it said that the 2025 rendition will be the last one. I’ve ridden Bo Bikes Bama once, and was signed up for it in 2020 when it got cancelled along with everything else in the world. It’s usually scheduled the weekend following BRAG STU, but due to that being held early this year because of Easter, there will be more separation so I may have to try to sign up for its final ride.
