Apparently I’ve lost my super power of being able to not drop things. Last night was one of the most frustrating nights in the kitchen that I’ve ever had.
My goal upon returning home from work and walking was to crumble some bacon (cooked on Sunday morning) into small bowl and top it with two fried eggs. Dinner! As it turned out my non-stick pan has lost its super power of being non-stick so I wound up taking the eggs out of the pan before they were completely cooked because they were sticking. On my walk to the microwave to “finish” the eggs I managed to knock the bowl out of my hand and watch it flip 180° (that’s pi radians for you mathematicians) and land on the kitchen floor. The bowl was spared destruction, the meal on the other hand was a total loss.
After cleaning up my mess I decided to try again. This time I put some vegetable oil into the pan to keep my final two eggs from sticking. Instead of sticking, while moving the pan around one of these eggs slipped its way half-way out of the pan into the burner, making even more of a mess.
My meal, no matter how delicious, was less satisfying due to my frustrations and additional required cleanup (not that my kitchen couldn’t use a good cleaning).
Today’s Daily Challenge
Squat with your toes pointed out, and punch across your body while turning your head and torso.
This challenge is a triple threat! It works the muscles in your core as you twist from side to side, it gives your arm and shoulder muscles a good stretch, and it raises your heart rate as you throw your punches.
I should, but I doubt that I will.
Spiders Out, Splinter In, Splinter Out
After eating and doing some cleaning I allowed myself to watch a little football (Seriously? The Panthers beat the Patriots? What has come of this world?). I guess I had the cleaning bug, and seeing a spider in the corner of the living room who has been there a while and had been making quite the mess on my hardwood floor, led me to getting out the vacuum. No, I’m not afraid of spiders. I find the Shop-Vac is a perfectly good spider removal tool, especially when said spider is in a hard-to-reach location. And it must have been a daily-double night because I got one in another corner as well.
My spider slaying came to an end when I felt a sharp pain in my right big toe. At first I wondered if I had missed a spider and had been attacked, no I don’t know why I was doing all of this barefooted, but such was not the case. Instead I managed to put a tiny shard of glass into my toe. WTH? Luckily with little work and a little more pain I was able to extract the offending intruder.

BE GONE!
Irony? Not Irony
The other day I looked out into the back yard and saw that one of my neighbors’ trees had dropped a limb back there — about a week after all of the tree work was done. Irony?
In front of a different neighbor’s trash this morning was a familiar sight, a patio chair that I discarded sometime within the last year. Apparently they were the ones who claimed these chairs and this one has either broken or served its purpose (no, I didn’t investigate). Not ironic, but it made me laugh.
BE GONE!
Thursday. Thursday! THURSDAY!
I know, today is Tuesday. However, if all goes to plan the critter company will be on site (that’s fancy-pants lingo for “my house”) to start the critter removal process. This day couldn’t come soon enough as I heard those fuckers up there this morning.
BE GONE!
It’s A Birthday Day
I know, I’ve been bad about announcing birthdays. See also: “This Week’s Top 3” on Mondays.
But today’s a special birthday because I don’t believe that the birthday girl is still an ITP-Reader and I’m interested to see if she returned today seeking a birthday wish.
HA! BE GONE!
No, just kidding. Today is (former?) ITP-Reader Betsy’s birthday and since I don’t do the Facebooks or the Instagrams or the Snapchats this is the only place I can say happy birthday. Oh sure, I could call her or send her a text message but this is so much easier.
And Betsy, if by chance you are reading this today, I want to let you know that I’ve yet to watch any of Top Chef New Orleans, so if you want to get together to watch this just let me know and we’ll work out some time.
Why would anyone stop reading this space?
Don’t answer that.
“A” And “B” Are Gone, Onto “C”
Normally on the third Tuesday of a given month I try to make it to midtown for the monthly meetup of iOS Developers. Coming on the heels of CocoaConf Atlanta this meeting should be well attended.
In less-than-normal situations I’d try to see if a friend celebrating a birthday wants to get together, though I’m certain that Betsy has many people making this offer to her.
Instead of these I will be heading to Dunwoody Tavern with coworkers for happy hour. The occasion? To spend the $25 in bar cash that we won playing trivia a couple of months ago. The money won’t go far (barely a beer for each of the participants) but the evening will be enjoyable nonetheless.

So much excitement at the day spa-
After giving Phinney a bath as I arrived home yesterday, Debbie let him out in the big pasture to stretch his legs- that was all the encouragement Brownie and Maggie needed and it was off to the races. I managed to get the upper gate closed before the chasee got to it and headed into the woods where he really could have hurt himself. We managed to get the dogs out and Phinney calmed, but it was exciting for a few moments.
Tomorrow is 3rd Wednesday!! I finally got around to try and send out the FB invite. Now when you select who you want to invite, you get little tiny profile pics and no names. They’re aren’t many people invited using that method, so spread the word!
There was no clumsiness in the kitchen last night, as Debbie whipped up some delicious chicken parm!! And now that Satchmo’s food allergy is back, he’s getting homemade meals as well!!

When you say fried eggs, do you mean like over over easy? I would never have thought to finish them in the microwave. But – don’t feel bad, I drop things all the time……
Nothing too exciting going on for us, I have a feeling Allan will spend the afternoon trying to get the leaves in our yard under control. It needed to be done this past weekend, but it was too wet. Might even have to light the pile on fire, we’ve got way to many leaves.
My “fried” is usually either sunny-side up, or over easy/medium.
I’m being told by a coworker that last night’s hash was in the “work neighborhood.” I’m having a hard time finding out where it started (I could locate trail and go
“no-no” I suppose, but I’m not that industrious). The Moonlight website is already passed it (sometimes I hate up-to-date sites) and only talks of next Monday night’s trail.
Steve, my calendar is open for tomorrow night unless I win the free pass to the Fox Bros BBQ dinner. I’ll see what I can do.
trail started at Lowe’s on Roswell Rd last night.
Look at Barb all in-the-know for Monday night!! Didn’t they just celebrate their 1000th hash? Not a peep I heard.
They did on Veterans Day. The only reason that I know this is because I saw a mention of it on AtlantaHash.com when looking for last night’s start.
I have a funny Moonlight story to share:
When I went to pay Sani Sunday at BS, she said, I have your shirt, I’m wearing it, your name is on the back…I had no idea what she was talking about.
So apparently I went to the 750th Moonlight back in 2009 where I guess everyone in attendance received a personalized shirt. After almost 5 years Sani got tired of lugging it around and claimed it as her own. So yes, she was wearing my 750th Moonlight glow in the dark t-shirt with my name on the back. Before I left, she literally gave me the shirt off her back and I have another hash shirt I will never wear.
Good and bad house news, good news, there were few ‘surprises’ when they did the demo, most of what they found is going to be removed anyway. So all that is left is pretty minor. Bad news, we are at a standstill while waiting on the next set of permits.
Ah, you still have Maggie…need a dog sitter?
Maggie won’t leave Debbie’s side!! Talk about a moma’s girl.
Waiting on the permits- bad.
Waiting on the permits because they are so busy due to lots of work- good.
Waiting on the perimts because they are understaffed- bad.
At least Sani had your shirt. She would protect it and keep it from being defiled. No telling what some random hasher might do.
Paulie- I’m on the Moonlight FB group, that’s how I’m in the know. It was also Chew Chew’s birthday – for some other random information I’m sure you wanted.
Martha – that’s hilarious about the t-shirt.
And – shocking – you want to wait on permits from the City of Atlanta? shocking….. Sorry, but that is so not surprising.
