Virtual Friday

Starting tomorrow I’ll be out of here for the remainder of the week. Of course it’s supposed to rain tomorrow and Thursday where I will be staying. I could have accepted this more graciously had this travel occurred over the summer when it rained nearly every goddamn day, but we’ve had nearly perfect weather recently so it’s harder for me to take.

FML

To try and make the best of the situation I am packing “books” (read “audio books and loading up my Kindle and Comixology apps”) in order to entertain myself, hopefully on long walks. I’ll also be bringing my cameras in hopes of finding photographs that I can take and share with you all.

Today’s Daily Challenge
Share your favorite healthy seasonal snack.

Seasonal foods let us make use of nature’s amazing bounty, and what better place to enjoy them than in snacks? By sharing your snack idea, you may inspire someone to skip a less-than-healthy snack treat and go for something that’s both natural and delicious. You may also pick up some ideas yourself.

Are salted pumpkin seeds healthy? I’m being serious.

At Least I Got A Free Meal Out Of The Deal
Last night’s “Hack Night” was a bit of a bust. I got to the office in which it was held about fifteen minutes before the starting time to find about about six other programmers there. I was led to a station where I could work and started my own project. What little interaction I had with other developers was helping the create Evernote notes using the knowledge that I had gained the night before.

In the end my app kinda sucked, though in true hacker spirit I got something partially working that I could demonstrate to the group assembled. I found that I was nervous presenting, this is a skill I should work on improving.

At least I got a free meal out of the deal. The event organizer ordered Chinese food and there was a smorgasbord of food from which I could pick and eat. Oh, and I also had a free beer.

Score One-Half For Paulie
You may have read in yesterday’s comments my lament about informing Paste Magazine about a grammatical error I found within their article about Sufjan Stevens correcting Mylie Cyrus’ grammar.

In the original “printing” of the article the Paste writer wrote “In less than 300 words…” to which I tweeted to them that they should consider using “fewer” rather than “less” since “300 words is a ‘countable’ noun.” For shits and giggles I returned to the article last night and saw that it now reads “In under than 300 words…”. Even if the sentence was not changes because of my tweet I’ll take partial-credit and still believe that the sentence should contain the word “fewer.”

I have nothing.

I’m A MARTAnority
Now that I have started taking the train more frequently (we’ll see how long this lasts) I’ve come to once again realize what a minority it is to be caucasian on MARTA. Sure, I understand that it’s much easier to drive, that MARTA goes virtually nowhere, MARTA is not always the most efficient or cost-effective option, and I realize that I am once again in a job that is not conveniently located near a MARTA train station that I too will stop riding, but it still kinda surprises me.

Taking A Night Off?
I was going to attend the monthly meet up of Atlanta’s iOS developers. I may still but as of now I will be satisfied going out, eating a nice casual dinner, and returning home to gather all of the items I will need for my journey.

  1. Barb says:

why are you so cryptic about where you are going?

  2. I don’t know. Probably because it’s not that interesting? I’ll be in Bryson City, NC on Wed/Thu using up a condo rental deal and heading to Black Mountain, NC for LEAF on Fri-Sun.

  3. Barb says:

Take your mountain bike – go be a rebel & cross the barriers at Tsali.
I’m sure you can get some good action photos at the NOC.

Go over to Tumbling Waters & catch a trout for dinner – they will clean it for you, you just have to cook it. (that will only take like maybe 5 minutes, but the fish was tasty)

  4. I was going to tote a bike but I am neither in shape nor to I know if I can navigate the roads at LEAF with a bike atop my car.

  5. Geez, between the Gubment Shutdown and Steve playing Games Head Honcho things are awfully quite. Anyone heard from ITP-Reader Stacy recently (on that service to which I no longer log on, perhaps)?

  6. Barb says:

send her a text – remember?

  7. Martha says:

Last I heard Stacy was fighting (and losing) the war with Windows 8, maybe that is causing her delay.

As for me, I’m not working but been very busy. Andy called yesterday and asked if I could take him to the doctor again…we weren’t there 15 minutes before they sent us straight to the hospital. So I got to spend a few hours at Piedmont. He’s going to be there until at least tomorrow.

This morning I met with the contractor, a few tweaks to the plans and we are ready to submit for permits.

As for the rest of the afternoon, I made the mistake of seeing if I could ‘tidy’ up a bit for Andy…I’ve been cleaning (just the bedroom) for over two hours. I’m just taking a little break before I dive back in…oh boy.

  8. Barb says:

you are a good neighbor Martha……

  9. Jenka says:

“In under than 300 words”? Double fail.

  10. Ugh, the second grammatical error was mine, that should have read “In under 300 words…”

    DANGEN!

    🙂
