Global Graying

Okay, perhaps it’s been more “Local Graying.” However, I’d be hard-pressed to prove to anyone that the sun still rises in the East in Atlanta this Summer. [note to self: review when proper nouns such as “East” and “Summer” are to be capitalized.] This has been the grayest time that I can remember, combined with my continuing health afflictions it depresses me and reminds me that I should never move to Seattle. On the positive side the lack of sunshine has seemed to stunt the growth of my grass even with all of the water that has been dropped upon it.

Today’s Daily Challenge
Eat one food that has carotenoids, like carrot, apricot, or pepper that’s red, orange, or yellow.

Also known as “provitamin A” due their ability to turn into vitamin A in the body, carotenoids are powerful antioxidants that can help prevent heart disease and some forms of cancer. They can also boost your immune system, making it more likely for you to fight off infections that may come your way.

Since I shan’t be attending “Third Wednesday” perhaps I will find a salad for dinner tonight.

I Have Little Strength Still
I joined the drinking club from work for a happy hour up at Dunwoody Tavern. The evening was fun, I managed not to eat too much (notice, I did not say “eat or drink”), and did fairly well at playing pool and a game of darts. I was also doing fairly well at answering trivia questions for no one other than myself. My confidence rose a little too high when I bet a coworker $20 on a song from the 1980s. Suffice to say I lost the bet, but being true to my word handed him a $20 bill.

And now you know why I don’t gamble…

I was home by 10:30pm which convinced me to sleep later than I desired this morning, which made me sit in more traffic than I desired this morning.

And now you know why I should either stop drinking or get a different job, one closer to home.

With abundant (gray) window light at The Argosy how could I not take a photo of the dinner I ate on Saturday night?

Haircut And A Night At Home
I’m going to get a (much needed) haircut tonight (hey, I’ll be losing weight today!) and after which I will (most likely) get some dinner before heading home to take care of a mound of paperwork that requires my attention. In that pile is the paperwork regarding the physical therapy treatment my insurance company has denied payment.

One place I shan’t be eating dinner is Richard Blais’ HD1 which I read closed last Sunday and is slated to reopen as his fourth Atlanta location of Flip Boutique Burger sometime later this year.

Also tonight I plan to plan out my remaining vacation days for 2013. I received a pleasant surprise when I found out that I would not be required to take vacation days for my Big Nerd Ranch training if I agreed to teach the other iOS developers what I learned there (something I was planning to do regardless).

My sleep doctor had recommend getting a UV light, I figured I could wait until fall/winter…if I had known this was going to be ‘the summer the sun disappeared’ I would have gotten one much sooner. However, since right now we don’t have AC, I’m not going to complain.

If you actually make and eat a salad tonight, I’ll pay you the $20 you lost last night. BTW, what wast the song.

Yesterday was Jerry’s birthday, so I stopped at Endulge to grab a birthday cupcake for him. I couldn’t make up my mind which flavor, so I got four…they are really good, but oh so rich…

Great news about the vacation days, I need to get my work done so I can take some time off myself.

  2. Stacy says:

Gotcha covered! Neither east nor summer should be capitalized here. Seasons should only be capitalized if part of a proper name (ie: Summer Olympics) and directional words only if naming a specific region (ie: Georgia is in the South) or, of course, a proper name (West Virginia). Yes, I’m a dork.

    That burger looks divine!

Which 80s song did you lose your 20-spot on? Curious now!

Happy belated birthday to Jerry, Martha! And now I need to know which cupcakes you settled on too. My go-to is usually GiGi’s (since there’s one convenient to work) wedding cake flavor.

  3. The Future’s So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades.

My happiest birthday wishes too (I’ll start trying to post these within the blog next year). GiGi’s is good.

Dork who saves my bacon. Mmmmm, bacon. 😀

  4. Steve says:

“Mighty white” of the company not to make you burn vacation.

An early lunch out with the mizzus before driving to Rock hill for Natz. My foot is still killing me but I soldier on.

  5. Martha says:

Endulge is just around the corner. I had not been in there before. We got the Lemon Sunshine, Salted Carmel, Chocolate Crisscross and Key Lime. There was a mix of butter cream and cream cheese frosting.

I just ordered Jerry’s birthday present to me…I like this system.

So what was the question about that song??

  6. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

The band that performed it. I was thinking that it was Midnight Oil, and not Timbuk 3.

  7. Martha says:

Really? Wow, I expected more from you. 🙂 I wanted to show up and throw out a bit of random trivia about the video…but I can’t confirm, so I wont.

Employee reviews are complete, I’m going to spend the new couple of hours taking on-line class for my PMP. Fun times!

  8. Martha says:

    * show off….

  9. Barb says:

I think you really need to eat a salad tonight to get Martha to pay your $20!

And- I’m so bad with band names, I’d never know that answer.

Steve – I think I need a translator – “An early lunch out with the mizzus before driving to Rock hill for Natz”? NATZ?

  10. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I did get the songs with titles beginning with “Rock” by the following four bands:
    Scorpions
    Bad Company
    Rick Derringer
    The Stray Cats

I also knew the nickname of one of the kids on the TV show “The White Shadow”

And I knew the animal used to sell Fruit Stripe gum.

“Rock You Like a Hurricane”, “Rock and Roll Fantasy”, “Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo”, “Rock This Town”

    “Salami”

    a zebra

  11. Barb says:

I got 2 of the 4 rock songs, no idea on Salami, and I knew zebra! 50% – whooo hoo.

  12. Steve says:

Natz… officials slang for nationals. Currently. I’m stopped on 85the above. Spartanburg. I’ve moved several hundred yards in the last 15 minutes .

  13. Barb says:

fun times Steve, at least gas is cheap up that way – $3.09/gal
