I’m back in the office after commuting from Anderson, SC where I spent the evening.
Today’s Daily Challenge
Put one purple food on your grocery list, such as grapes, eggplant, blackberries, or plums.
Pile on the purple! Purple produce gets its color from anthocyanin, an antioxidant that is believed to offer many health benefits. It may help prevent heart disease, cancer, and stroke. And fruits and veggies – whether they are purple or not – always offer your body necessary nutrients and fiber.
Much Fun This Weekend, But I Am Swamped
I’ll detail more of what occurred this past weekend in tomorrow’s post because I am trying to play catch up here at the office. Suffice to say now that I had a wonderful time in Raleigh, as I always do.
I’d love to hear about your weekend.
Oh, I also have an extra reservation for Buttermilk Kitchen‘s fried chicken dinner on Thursday evening at 7:15pm. The dinner will be paid for (by me), and the evening is BYOB. I’m committed to two so if you’d like to be my second…

I may be missing something, but the link to Buttermilk Kitchen doesn’t say where the restaarant is located? no address?
Anyway, I don’t think I can go, but it sounds good & I wanted to see where it was.
Saturday was a lovely day at the day spa, we had the world’s largest dog (Farley) & the world’s smallest dog (Phillip) in attendance. Travis liked that is was easy to pick up Phillip, but I’m not sure if Phillip liked that Travis discovered this.
Sunday I felt like I was on vacation, JoAnna & I went to Ellijay to check out Sharon’s new little cabin, and then went to Blue Ridge to go SUP shopping. I guess I have never been to the actual town of Blue Ridge, it is a very cute little touristy place. JoAnna found this crazy guy that sells SUP boards in Blue Ridge, she decided she needed a 2nd one so she can have someone to go with. (I’m very okay with that idea, as the one I would buy IF I was buying would be $1100-$1200 plus a $200 paddle). We went out & demo’d them on Lake Blue Ridge, very pretty lake.
Buttermilk Kitchen is on Roswell Rd down where Pike’s Nursery and Ribs Etc. used to be.
It was a lovely day at the day spa Saturday. A little riding with C/E options, pool time and grilling. Good food and good friends, an excellent day overall.
Sunday, Debbie decided she wants a bike to start getting into (horse) riding shape. She wasn’t seeking much bike, so we started at Dick’s sporting goods. Found something that would serve her purposes, fit her to it and was ready to go for a test ride. Nope, the saleman says. No test rides- corporate policy. Oh well, lost our business right there.
Eventually made it down to the Trek dealer in Peachtree City and found a nice “comfort bike”. She came out with me for 4 miles and did very well. I don’t know if she’ll ever be able to keep up with the rest of us, but this is a start. I’m very pleased!!
Glad your time in Raleigh was fun.

I can’t wait to see a picture of this bike, and that’s awesome Debbie wants to ride at least a little. The way I was feeling about ridign Saturday, I think she could have kept up with me.
That’s interesting about the test ride policy at Dick’s, I’ll have to ask one of my contacts about it.
I was seriously shocked. Is it related to the liability of the bike assembly? The safety of riding in a parking lot? Whether you have a helmet? All those can be solved by signing a waiver- you want to sell someone an “expensive” bike but don’t want them to ride it? Screwy.
And at the Trek dealer, a lady brought in her bike for some work- I think she said she was taking it on a trip. I look over, she’s riding a carbon fiber Madone with a bell and a light on it. Welcome to the cart paths…
I have squeaky parrots on my road & mountain bike, and a bell on my cruiser.
I’ll let you know if my Dick’s contact has any idea on this policy. BTW – jsut curious, what’s the price point most expensive bike they sell?
I ate my fair share of purple food this weekend, we grilled eggplant Friday night and I ate a ton of grapes, Saturday, at Covington. The ride was good, the first 60 miles flew by, then we turned into a headwind for the last 40. We went to Ammazza for dinner with friends. I really like the antipasta plate, the pizza was decent…but the service was strange. Well really, other than bringing the food to the table there was no service…you order when you walk in, seat yourself, get our own, plates, water, drinks…nobody ever came by to check on on us or clear away any of the clutter… I mean I don’t mind, but I had tipped 20% (because you pay when you order), I won’t do that again. But what do you tip at a place like that?
Good for Debbie, but I can’t believe you didn’t get her streamers for the handle bars.
Newk’s, a really good sandwich, salad, soup place, is like that Martha. I just tip a dollar or so – roughly 10%.
I love my new bike! It’s truly a cruiser and very comfortable to ride. I ordered a little bell for it last night. 🙂 Y’all can go ride long and fast, I’m more than content to peddle around the neighborhood and check out what people have in their yards. I need the cardio to ride better.
Paulie we couldn’t even face playing dominoes without you here, so you are still the reigning champion.
Bacchus is gorgeous kitty… and all cats are weird, it’s part of their charm.
Barb, I think they have a road bike in the high hundreds. Maybe over a thou. I suppose I thought of them a step up from a department store. Guess not.
Martha, well done Saturday, except for the crash at the end. Was that a “too tired to get you feet out of the pedals” crash? Been there.
20% for no service? No. That’s an odd service model.
Thanks, the crash at the end was just stupid. We were riding on the sidewalk, heading back to the cars after grabbing a bite. Someone wandered in front of me, I went into the grass, when I tried to get back on the sidewalk my tire got caught where the sidewalk and grass met…and I just tipped over.
From the on-line reviews I’ve read, sounds like you dodged a bullet not getting a bike at Dick’s.
MY contact person at Dicks thinks that is a crazy policy, so she is looking into it. who knows if I will ever get another answer…….
Like what kind of reviews Martha?? I would expect most people that buy a bike from a chain retailer aren’t expecting anything after the sale?
mostly along the lines of, I wanted a bike, they wouldn’t let me test ride it (except in the store), got it home, didn’t like it or something was wrong, Dick’s wouldn’t let them return it…
If I was really interested, we would have bought it and test rode it still- if we didn’t like it, it wouldn’t have made it in the car. That is a pretty dumb policy.
We also went be the brand new Academy Sports store in Newnan and asked the kid about their test ride policy and he said, “Sure, no problem!” I said, “outside in the parking lot?” “Noooooooo, up and down the aisles.” Nevermind.
The Trek kid asked me if I wanted a route to test ride in the neighborhood. I have no doubt their margins are much better, but they earn them. The Peachtree City store is crazy busy, too.
and – you should be getting better after the sale service at a real bike shop – cna’t you bring it in for adjustments, etc., for free?
After riding my mountain bike for eleven miles on Saturday I determined it needs some maintenance love because the back brake SQUEAAAAAAAAAALS LOUDLY as if I were choking a goose.
let me know when you want to bring the squeaky brakes by, but we are out of town all next week…..
I will be out of town all next week as well. I will get with you some time after that.
Yes Trek offers all sorts of maintenance as part of the price. Big plus!
