I’ve been to the podiatrist already this morning and he is more pleased with my progress than I am. He’s suggested wearing the cast through the weekend and followup once more next week — unless I have no pain by Monday, in which case I can cancel. You know, with insurance I almost forget that I pay something each time I see him.
After my appointment I hobbled into Target where I purchased a new pair of “fat man” jeans and a “skinny” vanilla latte from the Starbucks location inside.
Tomorrow’s Daily Challenge
I like tomorrow’s challenge more than today’s.
Be a tourist in your own town: Go for a walk and take three photos with your camera or mobile phone.
Walking is one of the simplest forms of exercise, but it can bring great health benefits. Making time for a daily walk can help lower cholesterol, reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, and increase bone strength. Mixing up your walking routine by snapping some photos will help to keep you interested and engaged in the activity, and might even encourage you to walk further.
Even though there will be no “going for a walk” for me this weekend.
I Should Have Gone To The Game Last Night
For multitudes of reasons I decided to pass on heading down to Turner Field last night for the Mets v. Braves game. In part I didn’t want to hobble around in this cast, and in part I had already spent enough money for one day by investing in my future by purchasing a new iPod Touch for development. Of the iOS devices in my possession only one — my iPhone 5 — can run the iOS 7 Beta, and I’m not confident enough in this beta software to install it on my daily-use phone.
I did break my vow to not go out for dinner last night however. I joined my coworkers for a night of debauchery at Twisted Taco. It’s funny how different my definition of “debauchery” is than it was just a few years ago.

At least until I can start exercising again and start to get my weight in check.
Doc Out Of Business
As I drove from Target to the office I saw that Doc Green’s Gourmet Salad & Grill has closed another location — this one in Perimeter Place. I’m not too surprised as I had never eaten there in the five or so years that it was open — and if you’ve paid attention to this blog at all you know that I eat out a lot.
The only thing that did surprise me about this is that a lot of people in this area pretend to be healthy, so I would have thought they’d flock to Doc Green’s.
Packing It All Into One Day
With the unfortunate postponement of Summer Slacker Series #1 my weekend has been condensed into one day of activity on Sunday. On Sunday I will:
- Do laundry that morning
- Attend a picnic that afternoon
- See the Mikal Cronin concert at The EARL that night
- Hopefully not get mugged at any time
Now that Saturday has opened up I may seek out something fun to do, or I might just be a lazy bum…
This Weekend’s Personal Projects
Today: Review my “Big Three”; take the Jackmobile for its emissions test at lunch.
Tonight: Book a hotel room; call my mother.
This Weekend: Install iOS 7 Beta on the iPod Touch I bought for development.

Oh yeah, off topic question (as if there were really a topic): Do squirrels eat mushrooms? Wednesday morning there were some mushrooms (I don’t know what type as I don’t trust myself as a forager) which were gone from my lawn (clearly broken off at the stem) by the time I returned home. What would have eaten them? Birds? Squirrels? Humans?
Mushroom eating varmits – no idea.
You can come to Conyers Saturday evening for the Seersucker & Big Hat party? You could bring your camera, it should be a great evening for pictures.
I get to start the pork butt again on the Egg tonight, I hate being responsible for that. If we (I say we because Felicia is here, I’m making her be part of the set up to cover my ass & spread the blame) screw it up, we are screwed – as we plan to leave for Conyers Saturday morning to help with the party set up & go swimming.
I don’t have the attire nor the desire to acquire the attire for that party. Man, I love the construct of that sentence! 😀 But thanks for the offer, Barb.
Allan has a yellow seersucker shirt you could borrow (might be a little big, but that’s okay) – that would be enough. Or, wear a straw hat, we’ve got a few of those laying around too.
Yes- good sentence.
Yes, according to YouTube, squirrels do eat mushrooms. Apparently, they can also eat mushrooms that are poisonous to humans. The more you know…
I would suggest, regardless of how your foot feels, to continue seeing your doctor as recommend. Just because it feels better, doesn’t mean it is better.
I met with a potential new contractor last night, hope to have his estimate (and at least one more) by early next week.
Hmmm, I’ll consider that and get back to you later, Barb.
Martha, I couldn’t help but see an imaginary shooting star with rainbow colors which is what I think you intended with “the more you know…” 🙂 I do plan on returning once more, though the timing is questionable. I failed to consider that I will be back in town on July 2nd and not out the entire week as I told the receptionist. The doctor can’t see me Thursday and is gone the entire week of July 8th, so when I scheduled it was either early next week or after the 15th of July.
Already back from breakfast and about to do some PM on the mower. A quick ride last night- 18 miles at 17 mph average. The wind was not my friend- at least the direction I rode made it a fight to get home.
We have all kinds of odd mushrooms around. I’ve never thought of squirrels eating them.
Don’t have any agenda for the weekend. Anyone riding?

I’m going to bet humans. One of my favorite things in the spring is to walk around kicking little mushroom heads off their stems. I like to see how far I can get them to fly. Yes, I need to get out more.
In positive news, mushrooms usually indicate a healthy lawn!
“In positive news, mushrooms usually indicate a healthy lawn!” reminds me of the old billboards for a vasectomy clinic I used to see in Atlanta — “Fertilize your lawn, not your wife.”
Oh hey, if you all need something to do this weekend you can help me move tomorrow! Heh.
one word…ewww!
Just back from my run, hill repeats, ugh. Hotter than I thought it would be….
I’m riding tomorrow, 65 miles on the schedule but I was going to be lazy and just ride SCT.
Rats! My coworkers and I are doing lunch/emissions and the perfect plan was foiled by one car who managed to get between us.
Jenka, if only I were 100%… 🙂 Good luck.
65 on the Comet? Pass. But might I suggest to do some “hard” sections. How about 3 4-mile sections and try to really drill it. That will break up the monotony.
if we aren’t too hungover (or drunk from brunch) when we get home from Conyers, we had considered Wheelhopper or just riding Sunday afternoon.
who knows what Sunday will bring………. I really need to ride, but jsut have had zero motivation.
Good news! The Jackmobile passed emissions. Now all I need to do is fork over $120 to the state for that little sticker for the license plate…
if my Honda passed emmissions – yours should too!
I still have to pay the CRV tag, took care of the Subaru since I neede dextra ppwk to opt out of the advalorum.
