My Huge Week Of Music Has Started

Five concerts in seven days. One down, four to go.

Today’s Daily Challenge
Add a dark green vegetable to a meal today, such as spinach leaves in a sandwich or salad.

When it comes to veggies, the darker the better! Dark green vegetables are powerhouses of nutrition, bursting with nutrients such as vitamins A, C, E, and calcium. They are also a great source of antioxidants, which protect against disease.

I really should eat more vegetables.

I Told You It Was A Freaky Friday
I’m not counting Friday afternoon’s Turf War show at 529 in East Atlanta in my concert count.

It was a predictably frustrating drive home especially since I didn’t get to leave the office until nearly 4pm; not only did I hit traffic, I encountered Clifton being closed near Fernbank which caused me to have to do a 180 and find my way around to East Atlanta via Lake Claire.

Once I arrived at 529 the doorman joked that he was not used to seeing the sun, that this was the time he normally wakes up. He must have been honest as he handed me two $5 as change for the $10 I handed him for the $8 ticket; yes, I gave him the two $5 back in exchange for two $1. Turf War’s excellent but too short for my tastes; I’ll have to find out when they headline somewhere again (and I think that they will) and see them then.

Already smokey and two beers into a Friday I decided to wander over to The Midway Pub for another beer. While at Midway I texted ITP-Reader Betsy and asked her to join me. Betsy already had plans, which were to invite people over to nosh, drink, and sit around entertaining themselves at her house. Thankfully she invited over so I settled my tab, stopped by the house to grab some beers, and went over to her house. The evening was quite relaxing and I was home early enough to get rested for my busy Saturday.

Work, Drink, Eat
Once I found out that LA Fitness doesn’t open until 8:00am on the weekends I quickly eschewed working out and headed into the office instead.

I put in a three-hour day at the office before driving up to Marietta for Red Hare Brewing‘s beer tasting / brewery tour / Marietta Derby Darlins‘ fundraiser. There was a decent showing of hashers at Red Hare so I was able to entertain myself with conversation with them during the two hour beer drinking session. From Red Hare a group of ten of us headed up to Tasty China where we devoured spicy Schezuan food while trying to cool our mouths with more beer.

With another long day planned for Sunday I headed straight home after Tasty China and passed out.

Uh oh, I am out of photos again…

De Agony Of De Feet
After putting in a long, and fairly productive, day at the office yesterday I forced myself to head over to LA Fitness for a workout. I was “scheduled” to do a weight-lifting routine but I talked myself into doing a treadmill workout instead because I knew that it would only take an hour to complete. Sometime around the forty-minute mark during that hour I landed awkwardly on my left foot once and hurt my foot; of course I couldn’t let a little pain stop me. I guess that I’ll be doing more weight lifting this week in order to let my foot repair itself.

I had forgotten that last night also marked the first of four concerts that I will attend this week: Dick Dale at The EARL. I scored a great parking space on Flat Shoals which was made even more special since it was raining constantly and didn’t want to take an umbrella with me into The EARL. I bought a ticket to the show and just as I decided to walk down to The Argosy for (a late) dinner I changed my mind and grabbed a table at The EARL and ate a Greenie Meanie Chicken sandwich with a couple of Terrapin Rye Ales.

The show was as good as I hoped it would be, but at 11:00pm I realized that it was a Sunday night and headed home well before the show’s end.

Concert #2 Tonight
Besnard Lakes at The EARL. After work, a weight lifting workout, and dinner of course.

RealiTV: I’m Not TAR-Compliant
But don’t hold back because I am might not get the time to watch it (assuming the rain didn’t destroy my DVR recording) until Wednesday.

Today’s Personal Project
Take a photo for tomorrow’s blog.

Stats & Goals
Daily
Current Mood – good, though I wish that I hadn’t hurt my foot
Current Music – listening to last week’s “This American Life” podcast which is actually an old “This American Life” (this was originally aired in 1998!). Let’s see.. a nice bike ride Friday, A funeral and lunch at 6FU saturday, then yard work- where I managed to clip the trailer with the tractor bucket- anyone have experience with fiberglass repair? Saturday evening I watched the Twilight Crit over the internet. A pretty good job considering they only used 4 cameras (and misspelled the sponsor on one of the graphics- oops).

Sunday, a few errands, then burgers on the grill while watching TAR. All in all, a very nice weekend. Even accounting for the rain, but I wasn’t trying to ride in it!

  2. Martha says:

This was an all or nothing sort of weekend.

I got lots and lots of stuff accomplished on Saturday, rode the bike, did yoga, cleaned up something in the back yard that has been bothering me for 11 years, dropped of e-recycling at Turner Field and planted a new flower bed and spread out 10 bags of mulch.

Then we went to a birthday party (and a detour to Cockpit on the way home) and partied with Jenka and Kevin…so Sunday I did nothing but try to recover from a god awful hangover.

and the show Saturday night was even ‘better’ than I could have hoped for …oh boy.

I stayed up later than I should have watching ‘Pyramids of Mars’ (a classic Doctor Who)…couldn’t finish it I’ll have to watch it on Amazon Prime soon.

  3. Barb says:

Bummed we missed out on Red Hare / Tasty China. We met Drew & Michelle for a 40 miler in Roswell (did the Mayors Ride a day early, since we didn’t want to ride in the rain on Sunday). We met at 1030, but there was a March of Dimes Walk going on, so no parking, Re-grouped & found alternative parking, but didn’t get started until closer to 11. We got done closer to 1:30,a nd I thought we could still make it to REd Hare. But, a quick stop at Cycleworks took longer than expected, and then a phone call from my house guests letting me know that they would be arriving around 4pm (as opposed to 7pm as they orginally predicted), we never made it obviously.

Sunday was a lazy day, but the rain was very nice for the garden.

I did watch TAR, I’ll just say the making of Haggis was interesting. I’m so glad they made everyone taste it after they were done.

  4. Barb says:

so Martha – the drama at the party was as good as predicted? Excellent…..

  5. Two major non-shockers this morning:
    1. Well it’s happened again, I am once again disappointed with my life.
    2. Jets released Tim Tebow.

  6. Martha says:

I was getting a little nervous the rain wouldn’t come and I would have to water all the stuff I planted. It was perfect, a nice soaking rain. I swear things have started growing over night.

  7. Steve says:

Having eaten haggis, the reactions were interesting- it isn’t something I’d seek out, and the fact you normally eat it while drinking whisky should be a clue. Better for the Chamber of Commerce if they look like they enjoyed it.

And please learn to pronounce “Ed in burr row” not “Ed in burg”.

  8. Jenka says:

Yeah, Martha, that party was crazy! Oh, the drama! And the Cockpit! Definitely one of the more funner nights I’ve had in a long time. It was really great to hang out with you.

Paulie, good job on listening to an older This American Life podcast. I’ve been remiss lately on listening to any TAL podcast, old or new. Gotta get back to that.

  9. Martha says:

Jenka…”more funner”?? Really, who is this??

  10. Steve says:

Really. Who are you and what did you do with Jenka?

And I’ll throw this out- when did it become acceptable to simply add “er” and change the part of speech? People do it frequently when I believe they should be saying “more ___” instead of “_____er”.

Or am I way off base?

  11. Jenka says:

Uh, it’s a joke, people. Am I the only one who appreciates a good grammar joke?

Steve, certain words should have “more” in front and certain should have “-er” added to the end. It’s a matter of remembering which is which, which most people can’t/won’t do.

  12. Martha says:

I was taught/remember that one syllables words get -er added, longer words get more added…but because it’s English there are all kinds of exceptions.

and yes, you are the only one!

  13. Steve says:

    Yes I am!!! Thank god.

  14. Been a hectic and lousy day thus far. And it looks like I won’t have time to make it to the gym this afternoon either.

At this point I’d just like to get drunk and screw someone, but:
    a) I’m not supposed to be drinking as much as I am
    b) I haven’t a woman to screw

I guess I’ll just get back to coding instead.

I could use some funner times…

  15. Stacy says:

Hey Paulie! Aron (Yassir) and I are playing trivia at the Mellow Mushroom in Midtown tonight at 8pm. If you’re still frustrated, I can offer you that beer (finding a screw in the midtown area, however, might not be your cup of tea). 😉 Come join us if you feel like blowing off steam!

  16. If I can be down there at 8pm I’ll join you all for awhile. Thanks!

  17. Barb says:

no I have to look up where Mellow Mushroom is in Midtown, I have no idea where it is. I can’t make it townight, but pizza just sounds good right now…….
