Ever become overwhelmed by the tasks you face? I have this morning.
Between now and Sunday I must fix a toilet, clean my house, remove debris from my back yard, go to the grocery store, see Band of Horses and Tenement Halls at The EARL, host the Sunday Runners, go to the High Museum to renew my membership (Warning NerdSpeak: I don’t trust their website since I am not positive that their SSL connection is valid) and some other things that I can’t think about at this moment.
It Almost Became The Rally Tuque
At the Thrashers game last night I bought a $6 knit hat (tuque) between the second and third periods. It wasn’t so much that my head was cold, or that I even needed another tuque (I have four; five if I can find the one I got at Black Sheep this year) it was just that I thought it looked kind of cool, and for $6 I thought I’d buy something other than a beer. I deemed the new headgear to be the “Rally Tuque” since the Thrashers had not put a single goal into the Panthers’ net all night long. Within a minute the Thrashers scored! If not for the fact that the Rally Tuque also helped the Panthers score three goals (one empty net) the damn thing would have worked, for the final score was 5-3 in favor of the visitors.

Some dogs have it made.
I wouldn’t mind being in this position right now.
Target Has Let Me Down, Again
First it was not opening super early during the week prior to Christmas, not it’s this.
The other day I went to three different Target stores looking for post-Christmas markdowns.
One of my dirty little secrets is that for the past four years I have been buying post-Christmas markdowns of holiday-packed sausage, cheese, and nuts and serving those at my annual Super Bowl party. I consider it to be savvy party planning as it’s not like any of these items are going to spoil between Christmas and the first Sunday in February, and if I can buy them for 50-75% off of their originally-marked price all the better.
Sadly, this year Target’s buyers must have decided not to help me out because there was nary a Christmas sausage or cheese package, and the nuts that I expected to be discounted were not.
And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…

If we can get enough time off, we might be driving to Colorado for the Invihash (Labor Day). That way we can take our own bikes.
WooHoo, I am not the only one here today!!!
Wow, that’s ambitious Barb. I am looking into extending my trip out there a week and driving through New Mexico. Sadly, the best price I can get for flights currently is $450.
Try looking to fly into Colo Springs… I figure you’ll have a car anyway and that at least gives you another option. And it’s just over an hour to Denver.
Good idea to get the toidys working before Sunday.
:Barb- no time off and going to drive to Colorado? Doesn’t that take more time?

Martha might be up for the trip to CO this year (and yes I think I’m going start refering to myself in the 3rd person)
here’s the information for the Colorado Invihashional 2008
While I can’t say I share your penchant for sausage, I am definitely looking forward to chatting with you about data backup at Cheddarhead (mmmm…. fried cheese, beer, kringle, external backup drives, fried cheese, beer…).

P.S. You may want to check out Dictionary.com for the subtle difference between toque and tuque – unless, of course, the headgear you were sporting at the Thrashers game was “a brimless and close-fitting hat for women, in any of several shapes”.
HAHAHA, that’s what I get for relying on spell checker to do my grammar checking — not that I don’t know a bunch of women that would look quite fetching in the hat I purchased last night. Thanks, going back to correct my error(s) now.
no – I have plenty of vacation time, Allan has to work trades , etc. to get those days off. He is still too low ont he totem pole to totally
I guess I hit enter before I finished that thought. There wasn’t that many days in a row for a firefighter/paramedic on A shift to get a from Aug. 23 until after Labor Day off. So, if he can make some trade deals, we will drive and see the countryside. And – a few friends that live on the way to Colorado could get a visit too.
Martha – we have a big truck, if you really want to, we could let you come along.
I guess one of these days I ought to send in our money for the Invihash.
