Some of which you know, some of which you’ll find out about today, some of which will remain in the shadows.
Today’s Personal Project
I’ve already accomplished one (which you’ll hear about tomorrow).
Today’s Daily Challenge
Eat fruits and vegetables that include at least three colors of the rainbow
Colorful fruits and vegetables not only perk up your plate, they perk you up, too! Produce offers your body the mix of nutrients it needs to stay healthy. And the high fiber content helps you stay full longer than if you ate a processed snack, which can help you manage your weight in the long run.
I wish that brown were a color in the rainbow so that deep-fried vegetables would count.
I Hate Violating My Own Policies
On Friday I had a hankering to hear some Rush (I’d say “old Rush” but that would be redundant). Longtime ITP readers will know that since 2009 I’ve been living under a self-imposed edict that I only purchase physical media when digital equivalents are not available, or the digital version is measurable worse than the physical version. I checked into Amazon to buy two “discs” and was irked to find that the digital downloads were priced twice as much as their physical counterparts. WTF.
I hemmed and hawed, playing my desire for immediacy against my internal frugality. And finally, I decided getting two discs for the same price as one digital download would win out. Of course I now have to wait for the discs to arrive; I will then promptly rip them to digital copies and drop the plastic into a box so that they will not occupy space in the house.
I’ll never understand economics and sales…
As Saturdays Go, Mine Was Pretty Awesome
I started the day channeling my inner-seven-year-old by going to Phiddipides and running inside the store while I tried on four different pairs of running shoes. I was aided by a very helpful salesman, whose name I failed to get, and wound up purchasing Brooks Ghost 5s in stunningly bright yellow.
After getting shoes and killing some time by having coffee and eating an underwhelming piece of chocolate cake at San Francisco Coffee Roasting Co. I went to get myself all hansomed-up for my trip to New York this week by getting a haircut.
My goal for the remainder of the day was to not wuss out of going to the Twilight Criterium in East Atlanta Village. After catching a quick nap I drove up to the village a little after 4:00pm, camera in tow (that is the proper “tow” for that saying, it’s not “toe” is it?). Initially I planned to shoot some photos, drink a few beers, eat some dinner and return home. Instead I ran into my old friends (and hashers) Harold (BWanA) and Jill (Supersuck), who invited me to join them for a beer. After shooting a while longer I found them at Holy Taco along with ITP-Readers Betsy, Terri, Pat and others. Shooting stopped (although I should have started again when the women’s race was happening in the rain — I might have gotten shots of a pretty spectacular wreck), drinking started. As we sat at Holy Taco we ran into even more hashers so drinking naturally continued. At some time later in the evening Betsy and I wandered back to my car, which was conveniently parked in front of So Ba where we ate dinner before I drove her home.

I promise that you won’t get sick of seeing shots from the criterium because I only plan to post a handful, only the best, of the nearly five hundred snaps I took on Saturday.
Unfortunately the Twilight Criterium was fairly poorly attended and some of the local businesses are griping about the event.
I Look Forward To Weekends Being Mine Again
Yesterday I couldn’t go out to the criterium at Grant Park. The biggest reason I couldn’t was that I had too many chores to do.
“Luckily” for me the grass had dried enough by early afternoon for me to go out and run the mower over it. At least I don’t have to hope that Wednesday will be dry so that I could mow the lawn before I skip out of town, and Wednesday night can now comfortably by “lavenderia y packing noche.”
I spent the majority of the rest of the day trying to write code for work. ๐ As much as I love my profession I’m really looking forward to the days when I code on the weekends because I want to rather than have to.
Giving Myself A Break Tonight
I plan to work a long day and then head down to Little Five Points, Variety Playhouse to be exact, to go to the Brian Jonestown Massacre show. I’ve heard of BJM for years, including legendary tales about their live performances. I don’t know if I will enjoy tonight’s show, but I plan to try.

Cheers,

And before you ask about the GSU student getting shot on my street let me remind you that Milton Avenue is in a different part of town from Milton Place (as well as Milton High School for that matter).
I was a little bummed we couldn’t make it down to either crit. Saturday was filled with a 7 year olds birthday party in Cumming(!) and we were there as referees, since the parents are divorcing/are divorced. This was the first “family event” since the lawyers were involved. Fortunately, pretty much everyone played nice, and except for being shunned, we had a nice time!! A quick swing through the tack store in Alpharetta and we were on the road home.
Sunday was a pretty lazy day, although we did make it out to see “The Bourne Legacy”. We went to a new theater that opened some time ago just south of Peachtree City- ever been in a theater that wasn’t cold? This place was actually warm inside… actually hot. Almost unpleasant. The movie was pertty good and gives me new inspiration to get a motorcycle ๐ A little rain on my ride after the movie.. of course, none at the farm.
Sorry the EAV merchants were disappointed. It’s tough to gauge a first year event and how much draw it will have.

It was great for “photographer Paulie” since I didn’t have to fight for position with anyone. Traffic signage was terrible, causing some addition non-necessary pain for motorists, and I don’t know exactly how much advertising was done which never helps draw a crowd.
I wish that I could have gone to Grant Park for comparison, but it just wasn’t in the cards for me.
I ate dinner at Grant Central Pizza (in East Atlanta) and they didn’t have much in the way of air conditioning. It was rather unpleasant inside and made me question my decision to “support the ‘hood” by eating there instead of driving up to Fellini’s in Candler Park.
Occasionally I think about getting a motorcycle, but that’d have to happen post-ITP-Estate since there is no where for me to park one without fear of having it stolen.
And believe or not, I am trying to buy something from Wal*Mart online…. And they are failing me. They are currently selling $100 iTunes gift cards for $80, but all attempts at actually ordering one have not worked.
Busy weekend. I ran/rode Saturday. I did almost 70 miles, which is great but I began to feel it. If I’m going to try and ride 100 next month, I need to make some adjustments to the bike/gear. I’m a little pessimistic right now it is going to happen.
Saturday night was fun, we went to Tin Lizzy’s for Jerry’s birthday dinner with a small group of friends, then to another birthday party around the corner.
In spite of the tequila, I made it out to Columns for a two hour run. My head was pounding for the first couple of miles, but once I hit the shade and was on trails it wasn’t too bad.
We didn’t make it to EAV on Saturday but did watch some of the GP Crit on Sunday. I did see Harold there, it was good to catch up a bit. I didn’t stay long, Nibbles was being more obnoxious than usual.
Now if I can just get out of the office, I’m heading to Buckhead to pick up the SUP. Really looking forward to getting away from it all, even if it is just a few hours.
Dumb question: For what does SUP stand?
Maybe Nibbles recognized Harold’s evil? ๐ On the Harold/Jill front I found out that Jill’s dog Jack passed away. Bummer.
Stand Up Paddleboard
It wasn’t Harold she had a problem with, it was any and all other dogs that had the nerve to be within 50 feet of her.
Yes, Harold told me about Jack, a little scary considering Nibbles’s recent scare with a seizure.
“Nibbles recognized Haroldรขโฌโขs evil?”… Who said dogs aren’t smart!! ๐
While Grant Park has been going on for a number of years, EAV Crit will surely have some growing pains. Just dealing with the city would normally keep any sane person from putting on such an event. The numbers I’ve seen as far as what it costs for cops and sanitation are a complete rip-off and/or shakedown.
So what’s the deal with the SUP? Just a fun thing or a crosstraining device? Another excuse to get wet?
As usual, way too busy here at work. I hate mondays.
Steve – the SUP is just the cool new sport…..
We rode 47 from Sosabee, I thougth we were going to ride the new route that is marked, but Ray wanted to stop & get some hoop cheese, so we did the BBC loop. It was a good ride, a little warm, but not too bac.
I spent the day yesterday running errands with Felicia, the entertainment was going to Cycleworks & picking up a gallon of Slime, they always amaze me when they question Allan’s orders – a quart won’t last that long, & he hates having to order over & over (and he is always prepared & hates running out).
BTW Steve – how’s the new tires? Sal had a flat I guess on Sunday, so she wants Allan to find her some new tires.
Is Slime the stuff that goes into tires or used to clean off your hands after working on a bike/car?
The new tires seem fine, very little noise, good handling.. we’ll see how they wear.
YAY for scale in the office! I think you lost a couple pounds?
Martha, have fun SUP-ing! I heard I just missed you at Sarah’s on Saturday night. It was a long-ass day, I went home fairly early.
Slime goes into my tubeless mountain bike tires to keep me from getting flats. (and other people’s tires too, there is some other stuff that some like better called Stans something, but Allan likes the Slime better)
ProGold is the stuff Bruce Dickman reps that gets the cgrease off your hands.
