If you thought 3D was the “next big thing” just wait until you read about 4D.
Today’s Personal Project
Do that data backup I failed to do the other day.
Today’s Daily Challenge
Pledge to end your “screen time” at least one hour before bedtime tonight.
Watching your favorite show or catching up on Facebook might be fun right before bed, but it can interrupt your sleep and make for a less restful night. That’s because the light and motion from the screen activates the brain and creates an alertness that can keep us awake. Powering down early lets your brain relax and get ready for good rest, and good rest means you’ll be better able to deal with whatever challenges the next day throws your way.
Mer. I don’t buy into this one wholeheartedly.
Dropped. Dropped. Dropped. Dropped.
It might have been better had I not made it to the parking lot on time. However, then I never would have known that there is little need for me to fight my way over to Vinings again this summer because I am not close to being in the same league (or shape) to ride with these people again.
Oh, the Ds…
- Dropped – In my rush to get out of the office and over to Vinings I apparently dropped my cycling socks and iPhone mount on the ground. I didn’t realize this until I couldn’t find them at the ride’s start. After the ride I drove back to my office and found the socks and mount outside the building. My WIB plan is off to an ominous start.
- Dropped – It was bad enough that I was hustling to get to my very first ride with this group and that nothing was going my way. The pack took off, with me at the tail end trying to snap on my helmet and put on my gloves. I was at the literal tail end of the pack when I realized that the split occurring ahead of me was all women (hence it was a women’s-only ride heading in another direction) and that I’d have to pick up my pace to latch on the tail of the main (Men only? Probably not.) pack. I did my best, but it was apparent early that my best was not going to be good enough. I didn’t have to worry about Brookhaven and Silver Lake, I was getting dropped before Buckhead.
- Dropped – As the pack made a right turn a car approached our intersection. There was confusion so I began to slow to a stop, and unfortunately left foot never exited the pedal as planned. I dropped to the ground like Arte Johnson in Laugh In (Google it, youngsters).
- Dropped – My ego was severely bruised as two more riders came upon me asking if I was alright, and then my rear tire was locked against the brake pad. At this point I gave up the dream of riding the remainder of the ride, fixed my wheel, and dropped out.
I turned around and headed back to Vinings. Because I had been (almost literally heads-down) on the ride to then I had no clue on which roads we had turned. My supreme knowledge of the road system is apparently warped, I began what proved to be one of the most circuitous (and hilly) routes I could find. I wound up back in the parking lot after some of the group riders returned. Out of curiosity I might attempt to map my ride, at least the portion I can recall, to see what the fuck I did.
What a serious let down.

I like this parabolic mirror currently on display at the High Museum.
And when (if) I get some free time I’m going to work on this photo some more in order to whiten the wall considerably.

Sucks you had a bad time at that group ride. I am not a fan of those type of rides anymore, too many douchebag rodies. I need to find a group ride for people who actually enjoy riding their bikes instead of people who just want a hammer fest.
The folks seemed fine enough, it was just that my skills (like getting out of my own goddamn pedals!) weren’t up to their level.
I just looked at “my ride” and am humored and embarrassed that I cannot follow a route even when I have a map on my iPhone! My misreading cost me about 6 – 7 miles of extra riding. Oh well, I was out to ride and ride I did.
Well if I don’t go to the Gaps Saturday, I’m scheduled to ride 40, you’re more than welcome to join me. I’m pretty damn sure I will be dropped quickly next weekend, or feel guilty because everyone is waiting on me.
For years I’ve been able to keep electronics out of the bedroom, slowly my Kindle Fire is making headway, I don’t like it. I say I’m going to read but I always end up ‘just checking in’ to FB before I shut it down. I have no idea how my sister ever sleeps, diet cokes and cigarettes until bedtime, then she falls asleep with the tv on. I guess she got that skill from my dad.
Martha, if you don’t go to the gaps and I don’t head to the mountains either (I’m considering a non-gaps ride, spending Saturday night somewhere, and then some photography along the Ocoee on Sunday — that is unless I am in the office working) then I’ll join you.
The good news is you got out there and tried! You now have a better idea of what to expect, how the ride might develop and what kind of hammer you need to bring. Next time you won’t be so rushed, and will remember how to clip out!
I’m feeling better, but still hacking a bit. That night time cold stuff I took Monday night kicked my a$$ all day yesterday- I was seriously in a fog.
I use my Kindle to read before I go to bed- I don’t think it has quite the same affect as the IPad or laptop Debbie uses before she falls asleep (or not), and I try to cajole her into not reading it too late.
No Georges tonight, but maybe on my bike for a little ride will help blow the crap out of my lungs.

What Steve said. It really isn’t fair to beat yourself up because you couldn’t hang with guys, who probably ride a lot more than you do. *Sigh* just like it isn’t fair to beat myself up because I can’t hang with men who have been riding longer and are stronger than me or when I’m getting my ass handed to me at CF by kids half my age (who were college athletes, no less). Pot, meet kettle….If you try to stop, so will I 🙂
On a completely different topic. MS Media Player sucks!!! I now realize when you buy an iPod it isn’t the hardware you’re paying for it is the software.
My nano died last week, thinking I would be smart and buy a less expensive M3P player (since I use them almost exclusively when I workout, which I believe is one reason they don’t last that long)…holy crap, what a mess!!
I was thinking of getting a new Nano, but the latest generation doesn’t seem to be getting good reviews.
PS Glad you’re feeling better Steve, I’ve been dragging all week, I hope I’m just tired and not catching this summer cold that’s been going around.
Greeting from a hot cedar rapids, Iowa, working on fixing the back door ( then we move in to the front screen door)
You’re a good daughter (and a better son-in-law!). Stay cool.
